About Stephanie Kuykendall
Graley Cottage has been owned by the same family since it was purchased in the 1950’s by our grandparents, Staley and Grace Cook of Burlington, NC (hence the name “Graley”). It was lovingly renovated and expanded by our Mom, Nancy Cook Moore, also of Burlington, NC in 2006. Mom left it to her children to enjoy and preserve for generations to come. We consider it a little bit of heaven on earth and hope you will too!
Stephanie Kuykendall purchased this Cottage in 1956
What makes this Cottage unique
Four generations of our family have enjoyed vacations at Graley Cottage. Whether it is fishing, shell hunting, surfing, exploring Fort Macon, jogging on the beach, reading in the hammock, or hanging out on the sun deck with family and friends, we think there is no place like Graley Cottage.

The property was beautiful, clean and well stocked with all the amenities. I would stay here again!
We loved the cottage. It was so comfortable. Everything was perfect especially the view! The house has everything needed for a great vacation. We will rent Graley Cottage again in the future!!
very comfortable relaxing week at the beach
We had our family of 10 together for a week at this wonderful cottage. It was such a comfortable and beautifully appointed home with fun artwork and family photos. We so appreciated that they had everything you could possibly need at the beach from beach bags and boogie boards to soaps and shampoo. The owner were very attentive to any question we had while we were there. In spite of a good bit of rain we had a fantastic week because of this wonderful cottage.
A Wonderful Family Beach Cottage
We loved Graley Cottage! It was the perfect house for our large family gathering. It was immaculate and very comfortable and attractively decorated. There were 12 of us staying at Graley Cottage, but our nephew and his family of 6 who were staying nearby joined us every day for meals and beach time. Even though the kitchen was small, the house was well equipped to prepare meals for the 18 of us--plenty of dishes, glasses, serving pieces, and cooking utensils. The large deck was perfect for the spillover at mealtimes. The garage had 2 extra showers and a bathroom, which was great for the younger folks coming and going to the beach. Graley Cottage owners graciously provided an abundance of towels, beach chairs, surf boards, beach toys, children's games, and bicycles . Stephanie's attention to detail was evident in every aspect of the house. Our family loved being at Graley Cottage!!
Perfect for the family!
The location is ideal! Easy to get onto main highway to go to shopping, etc. Oceanfront but must walk around dune to get to assess to beach-good exercise! The bedrooms are well appointed-very nice linens, etc. The furnishings are very nice and very comfortable for 4 generations of family! Plenty of beach chairs, beach toys for kids, wagons for carrying stuff to beach, and 3 bike cruisers! (one of the bikes needs a repair-rusty chain broke during ride). My only complaint-the kitchen is small but the owner has everything plus you would need to prepare great meals. All the appliances are nice. Great to have an extra refrigerator in basement for drinks, etc. There are 2 grills- a gas and one charcoal! Both worked very well!! The local fish market is GREAT! (near bridge) Had a couple of rainy days and the NC Aquarium is close by and Gkids loved it. We had 4 generations together-ages 84 to 6 months and everyone was comfortable and happy with the cottage.
Overall, excellent rental!! The owner has truly thought of everything for a great vacation!!
Better Than the Photos
Rock on the deck, watch the ocean, trek out to the beach. What more could you want for a beach vacation? How about monogrammed beach bags with monogrammed beach towels, surf board, kayak, 2 grills, chairs and umbrellas, boogies boards, and ferns and flowers on the front porch! Our family was so impressed with the NC beach architecture maintained but updated, lovely furnishings and art, comfortable beds, and usable space. The deck was action central with room for a kiddie pool for the baby. The kitchen had absolutely everything we needed to prepare meals, and an extra fridge in the basement made it possible to limit trips to the convenient Food Lion on the island. I can't think of anything we lacked. So much preparation was put into this rental that we were bowled over by the amenities, the comfort, the anticipation of supplying all the things that might be required for fun and comfort at the beach. Yep, we want to go back there! Did I mention that the beach is wide, shells plentiful, and there is a boardwalk a short distance away. We appreciated that the dunes are protected and yet the beach is just a short trek from the deck. We were spoiled! Absolutely loved staying there! Thank you for sharing a wonderful vacation home with our family!
Historic Fort Macon, dating from the 1750's, is less than 2 miles from the cottage. Beautiful historic Beaufort, NC is on the mainland across the bridge. The site of Blackbeard's shipwreck, 'The Queen Anne's Revenge' is off shore Beaufort. The famous fishing tournament, 'The Big Rock' is held every June with a multi-million dollar purse. Enjoy a wonderful day trip to Cape Lookout National Park, accessible only by boat with ferries running from Harkers Island to Cape Lookout daily. Enjoy the undeveloped beaches with walking, shelling and a relaxing picnic.
