About Artha and Roger

This lovely home is owned by British comedy magician Jolly Roger and his American wife, Artha (find out more about him - do a Google search - 'Jolly Roger Magician Arizona').

Artha is originally from the East Coast. A computer programmer by profession.

Roger is in the process of completing his second book, 'The Forest of Song.' A book of inspirational poetry.

Artha and Roger purchased this house in 2011

Why Artha and Roger chose Arizona

We have traveled all over the world and found the beauty, serenity and energy of Sedona to be incomparable. Having looked at several other homes in the area prior to purchasing, we knew this was the one as soon as we stepped into the home. The unique style and positive energy - as well as the ideal location - made this the perfect place for us to share.

What makes this house unique

We also own the home next door and visit from Phoenix at every opportunity! We rarely miss the 'free star show' the universe puts on each night as well as seeing the sun's first light hit the red rocks which are right outside our door! Red Rock parking pass also provided.

The perfect location to experience Sedona

  • 5 of 5

We lucked upon this beautiful home searching VRBO for our vacation in Sedona. This home exceeded our expectations. We were graciously greeted by Artha and Roger when we arrived, and they made sure we had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. They had put together a notebook guide for the area which turned out very useful as to grocery stores, restaurants, and hiking trails: honestly didn't have time to look up these things ourselves ahead of time, and this was such a gift to us on our vacation.

The kitchen was stocked with some staples like coffee, condiments, and spices (make sure to check out the home before you head to a grocery store.) Everything was impeccably clean; you can tell that they pay attention to detail in the maintenance of the home.

I was thrilled to be able to sit and drink my morning coffee at the dining room table looking right out the window at the red rocks we came to see. We enjoyed sitting outside on the covered patio in the mornings and at night. The pictures of the patio are nothing compared to actually sitting there and soaking up this particular part of the property. It is very rare to find a property with a musical instrument, and the keyboard in the living room was such a wonderful thing to have available to us, as we both play music as often as we can.

The home is located in the Village of Oak Creek in Sedona, and we found that this area was our favorite of all of Sedona. The neighborhood where the property is located felt very safe, and the home is within walking distance to a few restaurants including the best pizza in Sedona. It is also within walking distance to Bell Rock. We visited most of the hiking trails for the rocks and vortexes, and overall we found Bell Rock to be the most inviting and mystical: we were lucky to be staying in a home right around the corner from it!

Sedona is a small town and anything you might be going to visit within it is within a 15-30 minute drive; those minutes pass quickly by as you are driving by some of the most beautiful scenery in the world to get to your destination. We felt at home, away from the touristy bustle.

It was wonderful to know that we could message Artha to ask her questions during our stay; we messaged her with a "no biggie" question about the area, and she responded immediately. It was great to have that connection and to be able to "ask a local" when we were so far away from home.

I can't say enough positive things about this home: Thank you Artha and Roger!

Perfect Location

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. Our party of 5 adults was very comfortable and we had plenty of room. There are beds for 4, but there is a cot, extra sheets, blankets, and pillows in the closet. The kitchen cabinets were labeled and coffee, tea, filters, Stevia, and several spices and condiments are provided. The owners, Artha and Roger, live next door and came over to meet us soon after we arrived. They a very nice and friendly, and wanted to make sure we had everything we needed. After they left, we didn't see them again, but knew we could contact them if we needed anything. I might add, Artha sent four emails before we arrived with details about directions, restaurants, grocery stores, hikes, etc., so we were well-informed before we even left home!

The house is within walking distance to Bell and Courthouse Rocks, which we enjoyed, and just a few minutes drive into Sedona. The whole area is just absolutely gorgeous!

Hikes we enjoyed besides Bell and Courthouse were Devil's Bridge, Catheral Rock, and West Fork. I wish we could have done more--there are so many! We also loved seeing Chapel of the Holy Cross.

Restaurants we enjoyed were Cusina Rustica, Mariposa, Javelina Cantina, and 89Agave. One night we had pizza delivered to the house from Famous Pizza.

My only regret is that we didn't stay longer. We only stayed three nights. I will be back--either with my family or with my girlfriends! Thank you, Artha and Roger, for sharing your home, and for making us feel so welcome!

Spacious, Peaceful with Great Location

  • 4 of 5

As a family of 5, we were very comfortable and had plenty of space to spread out in this well-located house. The Village of Oak Creek is a great place to stay if you're visiting Sedona. It's a quieter and very beautiful neighborhood. Our kids loved the board games and back yard area. The grownups enjoyed drinking their morning coffee on the bench placed perfectly to watch the red rocks visible from the front yard. Thank you for your hospitality!

What's not to like!!!

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful stay at Arthra and Rodgers home. Great location to awesome hiking, nice resturants and key Sedona red rock formations. The house is very comfortable with everything you will need. Our visit was in January so the days were warm but the nights got cold and they have a wonderful pellet stove to keep ou toasty warm. The ever so popular bell rock and courthouse are fun but if you are more adventurous climb bear mountain, doe mountain and turkey creek they all have a great vista, sunset at cathedral is a must, Marge's draw, soldiers pass and Boynton canyon are also good choices. We did a hot air balloon ride with red rock balloons, highly recommend them. Dinner at Tara Thai, great Bergers and craft beer at Oak Creek Brewery and 89 agava has really nice Mexican food, also a really fun place with tapas, wine and beer is Vino Di Sedona.

Just an FYI: the signs for half price jeep and helicopter tours are a scam, they try to rope you in and then try to sell you a timeshare, not my idea of fair play........if you are not interested don't waist your valuable time in this beautiful place :)

Clean, great location, friendly owners, very cozy

  • 5 of 5

Before our trip we were sent a very informative packet via email on what to expect and how to entertain ourselves. Once we arrived, we were greeted with the friendly owners who answered all our questions and made sure that we were comfortable. The place was loaded with books on hiking and local things to do, games for the children, and a nice cozy feeling throughout the house. It's in a great location with restaurants and hiking trails within walking distance... We will definitely stay here again!

Amazing area

  • 4 of 5

4 of us girlfriends stayed in this wonderful place. Everything was as listed in the description of the property. We went for walks in the AM to take in the beautiful views, and had a great time out back BBQ'ing in the PM. Everything was provided for us all we needed was groceries and out hiking boots. We plan on coming back every year if possible.
