Self-catering, holiday rental, typical Tuscan farm in Camaiore. Old cotto pavements, wood ceiling beams, essential comforts. Internet Wi-Fi. Panoramic views over the valley and town of Camaiore. Terraces for lunches in the sun or evening drinks and dinners under the stars. Vast garden for children's games, private off the road parking. Ideal for relaxing holidays in off the beaten trak Tuscany. Surrounded by a private garden, olive grove, vineyard and wood for a total of 40 hectares, this beautiful and peaceful property, overlooking Camaiore is just right for Guests that want the essential for a relaxing and 'easy' holiday away from it all. Camaiore is one of those areas in Tuscany that still has to be discovered by mass tourism. Our houses are part of what once used to be a farm with a 'Manor' house. We usually spent our summer holidays there. Aunt Ludovica slowly transformed the houses to be rented out. We inherited La Polletta in 2001. And we continue what she started out. The town of Camaiore is downhill 10 minutes walking distance.
Stefano & Margherita are married since 1981, have a son of 26 and a daughter of 24. Live in Quattro Castella (Reggio Emilia) were they also rent out a place (see property 402746) and are seldom in Camaiore, where Mrs. Vittoria will help you around in their absence.
Stefano & Margherita Lazzari purchased this farmhouse in 1947
It was inherited in 2001.
Can be a truly full and enjoyable holiday.
Camaiore is the only place that can offer you relax on hot sandy beaches , and good walks up the hills around from which regenerate yourself with gorgeous views (itineraries are supplied with our guide book) .
And all this is the range of only 10 kilometers.
Yes because the hot sandy beaches and the refreshing shores of the Tirrenean are just 8 kilometers away, while the Monte Gabberi (1.100 meters) or the Monte Matanna (1.300 meters) are just around the corner.
And after all that excersise, in the evenings, on the terrace, you can relax, enjoying a drink and the view, follow up your mail on the Internet or the news on the satellite TV.
Furthermore, Camaiore offers you the opportunity to reach Pisa, Lucca, Porto Venere in no more than a 60 minute car drive (Porto Venere the furthermost) as Pisa and Lucca are reachable in no more than 30 .
The Farmhouse seems quite 'rustic' on first impressions but is well equipped, comfortable enough and does have a simple charm to it. There is a nice patio in front of the 'Manor House' and the 'Farmhouse' so you do have plenty of private space and somewhere to have meals. The 'Farmhouse' also has it's own little terrace garden area. Each of the properties have allocated garden furniture so you don't need to worry about getting space near the pool. The patio has shade in the mornings and evenings, with a large parasol for the middle of the day. Although very warm in the daytime, the evenings cooled down and we had very comfortable nights sleep.
The pool is actually saltwater which I was a bit unsure of, however, it is the nicest pool used. The view over the valley is lovely and the properties are surrounded by simple yet nicely maintained gardens, so there is plenty of space if you need it.
The owner (Stafano) was happy to answer our pre-booking questions and also provided us with an additional fan as we were concerned about the heat. Vittoria, who looks after the property, speaks very little English but we managed to understand each other and she always there to help us out if we needed it. She visits the property twice a day, watering the plants, cleaning the sun-loungers, checking the pool, looking after the garden and generally tidying up. The water did stop one day but Vittoria quickly contacted the town and arranged for us to have a supply of drinking water.
In the area - Camaiore is within walking distance (but bring your torch for the way back) and actually has a reasonable amount of restaurants and
bars. Although there is a supermarket, it's quite small and parking can be a bit tricky but there are a number of better supermarkets near Pietrasanta. Actually Pietrasanta is a 15 minute drive but comes alive at night and well worth discovering early on. Viareggio was absolutely not my kind of place at all.
A car is necessary. You can get to Pisa and Lucca within half an hour. (We hired a 4 seater bike to pedal around Lucca city walls which was fun for the kids!). Florence and Cinque Terre Riviera are about 1.5 hrs away. Just be aware that the road up to the property is quite narrow so you will need to prepare yourself for some tight manoeuvres should you meet some other cars.
Overall we enjoyed the place. It's ideal as a base for exploring the surrounding area, or just for relaxing. We would certainly consider coming back again.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at La Polletta with its perfect location, pool and rural charm along with all things we love about Camaiore and Tuscany/Italy in general. The house was fully equipped throughout and our expectations were truly exceeded!
But for a few overcast days (but still warm) the weather was great. Very
hot in the first week and a bit cooler in the second week. It was exquisite
to take a refreshing dip the the lovely pool floating around with the
amazing views of the surrounding hills.
Vittoria was really helpful and always a pleasure to chat to about our
holiday as well as answer some our our questions. It was sad to say goodbye
on our last day!
Once again we had a great stay and have lasting memories to keep us warm during the winter months!
What a fantastic property. We arrived on a beautiful day. We were met by Victoria who showed us round the house. Over the last 15 years we have visited probably 30 different properties in France, Spain and Italy. La Poletta is probably one of only 3 0r 4 we would give 5 stars to.
The setting is fantastic, with Orange, Lemon and Apricot trees in full bloom all around the house. Everything in and around the house was spotlessly clean and of really good quality. The outside eating area with its' two huge parasols made al fresco dining a pleasure. The pool was likewise beautifully kept and with ample loungers and deck chairs. The kitchen had everything you could wish for and the cooker was clean enough to pass for new.
During our stay we visited Pisa, Lucca, Florence, Massa and the beach at Lido Di Camaiore. Pisa, an easy drive was fantastic. You can book your visit to the tower in advance and show the barcode on your phone. Even 200 metres from the tower two dollops of fantastic Italian ice cream cost only 2 Euros. Lucca was equally enchanting and Florence a must see. Eating out both locally and further afield was equally good value. A large individual Pizza cost us no more than 6 Euros. I am sure you could pay more if you wish, equally, you could pay less.
I am slightly ashamed to say that we spent at least 5 days of our two weeks doing nothing more than relaxing by the pool, reading, taking dips in the pool, and watching our children have a fantastic time. We also had a day at the beach at Lido di Camaiore where the beach shelves gently and wasn't too busy. We drove to La Spezia and took a boat trip around the Cinque Terre. This was enchanting, even our teenage children were impressed and is not to be missed. Our final trip was to a waterpark at Cecina, just south of Pisa. Great fun, queues we could live with and reasonably priced fast food.
La Poletta is very nearly perfect. It provided us and our 6 children with the perfect mixture of relaxation, fun and sightseeing and my wife and I can honestly recommend any of the properties on the site to anyone looking for somewhere to stay in this part of Italy. Would love to return here.
La Poletta is a nice farm house that met our expectations. Surrounded by a beautiful garden offering a breathtaking view.
We were two families. Four adults and four kids. It was a perfect house. Very big and a lot of space. The pool was very good. Amazing view . The owner was easy to get in touch with. Very helpful. 30 min drive to the sea. 5 min drive to Camaiore. A nice little town.
Camaiore is a quiet and lazy old town of roman origin at the foots of the Apennines and marble mountains. Twenty minutes away from the fashionable beaches and shopping centers of Forte de Marmi and Viareggio. Many tourist attractions nearby: Pisa, Lucca, not far from Florence (60 minutes car drive), Pietrasanta, Portovenere and Lerici.
A preferred spot by artists, writers and film directors, as still unspoilt by mass tourism.
Off the beaten track Tuscany, Camaiore adds to its mediaeval churches, roman remains, proximity to important historic towns such as Lucca, Pietrasanta or Pisa, the vicinity to the sea. For a perfect and relaxing holiday. Many good restaurants in the area offer the visitor a taste of local Tuscan recipes and good wines. Excellent local food shops provide the traveller with the best of Italian groceries, wines and vegetables.
