We have decided to close reservations for this year 2016 due to the owner having to have surgery and family will need to live in the Red Cabin to be near her. We honor all current reservations that are booked - and you can also contact Ellen through email or VRBO on your reservation or any concerns. We will re -open in 2017.
This rustic Red Cabin is located in the heart of Cedar Mountain just down the road from Dupont State Forest. Only minutes away from Jones Gap and Caesar's Head State Forests. After an exhilarating mountain bike ride or hike, come back to this quaint little cabin to rest and enjoy the privacy of the mountains. Brevard is only 11 miles away and is a great place for shopping, dining and entertainment. Asheville, Hendersonville and Greenville, SC are each less than an hour away. Great music, pottery, art, shows and awesome breweries are all a part of being in this unique area up in the Blue Ridge Mountains of western North Carolina.
We're in a great location and setting for your mountain getaway. There's a large front lawn to play on or picnic with your family or friends, and a screen porch with great view of the pond. Sit back and enjoy the cool fresh air of the Blue Ridge Mountains. (The pond is for viewing and is not available for swimming, fishing, or boating) - it is very relaxing just to sit on the front porch and enjoy the view. There is a table on the porch where you can eat or play games or just relax.
The cabin has two bedrooms that are on the main level; one has a queen bed and the other a double bed. There are two bathrooms on the main level. The bedroom to back has the queen bed and the bathroom is next to that bedroom - which forms a private suite. The second bedroom with a double bed is very close to the other bathroom.
Upstairs is the loft area with an additional double bed (that is antique and a dash smaller than a regular double bed) and a full twin bed that can be used for sitting as well. There is a small game/play area upstairs too. You have to come down stairs for the bathroom - the loft is not very large - but cozy.
There is a small stone patio out back with grill and sitting area, to gather around as you are grilling out. Plenty of room to park several cars on the property. Our wood burning fireplace has been rebuilt and is up and running - good news for all! Please empty your ashes in the bucket next to the fire place - do not burn magazines - only wood, starter logs and newspaper/cardboard. (Wood is available - but it is recommended to bring starter logs.)

My summer time as a child were always spent in Cedar Mountain. I have great memories of all the fun I had playing in the creeks, collecting rocks, square dancing and so many things I couldn't do anywhere else. I went to Brevard Music Center as a teenager through college age. My 4 children grew up in the Red Cabin during the summers and one time we lived there for about 2 years. We have very good memories here in Cedar Mountain. I'm a local to this area now. I enjoy playing my fiddle/violin and teaching Mark O'Connor's new violin/string method in Brevard through Transylvania Youth Strings - a non-profit organization I founded in 2010. I perform in a small band called Joe Pye and we play in many of the beautiful weddings that are held around here at 'Pretty Place', Faith Chapel on Stone's Lake Road, in Dupont Forest and all over the area. We also play every so often down town, and for private functions. I am very fortunate to get to live up in the mountains full time, it's a beautiful place to be everyday!
Ellen Lee purchased this cabin in 1988
My mother found this little cabin for us back in 1988. It is very special in so many ways, there is no way to really describe how a simple little cabin could mean so much to me. Hope you find the time to slip away and see what I'm talking about.
Very peaceful, quite. Close to Dupont Forest - unique area in the heart of Cedar Mountain.
The in-laws, my wife, 2 children, and I all stayed at the Red Cabin for 3 nights. It snowed the first night we were there so we had a fire in the fireplace and immediately felt that we were on vacation. The cabin is conveniently located to Dupont, Caesar's Head, Brevard, and Greeneville, SC. Technically, you could bike to the Fawn Lake trail head, but I chose to drive the 3 miles down the road and bike from there.
The kitchen was well stocked and easy to work in. There were essential items already at hand so we didn't have to bring everything to cook. It's pretty quiet on Cedar Mountain, so you will most likely cook every night unless you drive into Brevard.
The front porch overlooking the pond was a nice feature. We would have taken more advantage of this, but it was still cold outside in March. Great spring/summer porch. We would definitely recommend staying at the Red Cabin!
Our family enjoyed this cabin so much! We spent the weekend and had so much fun together. The cabin is charming and comfortable. Slept six with no problem. We brought our own food and cooked which we enjoy and the kitchen had everything we needed. The antiques in the house are beautiful and everyone stayed that their beds were incredibly comfortable. The fireplace was great and we kept a fire going all weekend. There is a state forest nearby that offers great hiking and beautiful views of waterfalls. My kids (adult children) want to know if we can do this again next year. I believe we will and rent this place again as it was convenient for everyone to get to! Thank you owner for such a lovely place!!
This was my anniversary week. First let me say this, the cabin is a very sweet little cabin. The kitchen was so awesomely equipped as well as the rest of the cabin! It was just like being home. My husband and I took our motorcycles up to ride one day and then we planned to hike the next day. Well day one, our 26th anniversary, I went down on my bike in Canton, NC. All the volunteer firefighters and EMT's were so awesome. Spent 6 unpleasant hours at the ER, but was able to return to our cabin that evening. My husband wanted to go home, but since the cabin was one level for us, I begged to stay. It was the perfect cabin to recoup in. All in all, we really enjoyed our stay and I plan to have a do over very soon and do that hiking at DuPont!
Had a great time at the cabin. It was quaint, comfy and had everything we needed!! We all slept wonderfully not sure if it was beds or relaxation we felt being surrounded by such beauty
Ellen (the owner) was very accommodating, answering our questions beforehand, and making sure the cabin was clean and ready for our stay. It's cozy, quirky, and had all of the amenities we needed. The view from the screened porch, out to the pond and beyond, sets the mood for relaxation. It's close to everything we planned to do in DuPont Forest.
The Red Cabin is beautifully situated in the mountains with a lovely view. it was quaint and homey and just as pictured. We lacked for nothing. I especially appreciated the antique furniture and comfy beds. Brevard was only a 20 minute drive (and scenic at that), but we really enjoyed the proximity to DuPont State Park. The cabin is minutes away from tons of outdoor fun.
In Cedar Mountain - near Camp Greenville, 'Pretty Place', not far to surrounding camps: Gynn Valley, High Rocks, Green River. Close to Faith Chapel, Dupont Forest, Caesar's Head State Park, Jones Gap State Park, Raven Cliff Falls. Dupont Fores is all around us - Pisgah National Forest is 25 minutes away - on the other side of Brevard, NC. Brevard is around 10 - 12 miles way, Hendersonville is around 20 miles away and Greenville, SC is around 25 miles away, and Asheville 45 miles away.
