Fate and good friends helped to bring us here to the quiet side of St. John, where we built our own Caribbean villa to share with friends, family and guests.
We love the location, high above Coral Bay, but easily accessible and such beautiful views, serenity, and nice breezes, stunning sunrises and sunsets!
We furnished our home with all island Caribbean furnishings and antiques for a classic style to fit our surroundings.
The small town feel of St. John is very special, as are many of the locals.
We always plan at least one wonderful meal here for our island friends! Love seeing all the hummingbirds and banana quits at the feeder from our garden window in the morning, and watching the sun come up over the islands, or sometimes the rainbows. We simply enjoy our surroundings here without all the outside intrusions...so healthy... This is a private, boutique villa where you receive great care from our wonderful island manager so booking guests is done directly by the owner. We have not opted for on line booking due to the many changes and because this is a small island, and we want to keep the experience simple and positive for our guests as well as secure, and our on-island House Manager helps make this a very smooth process as well!
We stayed here for our honeymoon, and we could not have asked for a more breathtaking view or wonderful place to stay. From the deck view, to the master bedroom view, to even the view from the outdoor shower, everything was breathtaking. Opening the screen doors allowed the refreshing winds to cool us and we were more than comfortable without air conditioning. The kitchen was stocked with every convenience and the vaulted, wood planked ceilings made the ambiance perfect. We loved it here!
Also, the Coral Bay restaurants and the Dolphin Market were also conveniently right down the hill from Pink Horses. Skinny Legs was the perfect spot for a casual drink and blackened mahi sandwich, and Indigo Grill had fabulous artisanal cocktails, pizza, and other scrumptious cuisine.
Terri was also delightful to work with. She always responded to our requests and inquiries quickly and was helpful beyond belief. Even the property manager was super helpful, meeting us when we got off the car ferry with a bottle of champagne in hand. We are already planning a return anniversary trip it was so utterly amazing!
This was our first time staying on the Coral Bay side of St. John and we had an amazing stay. The views from Pink Horses are jaw dropping gorgeous! We can't emphasize that enough! The villa itself is beautiful, well appointed, and very spacious. Nothing was lacking!
Pink Horses is very close to great places to eat like Miss Lucy's, the Caribbean Oasis, and Aqua Bistro. The drive to the North Shore beaches is easy and the drive to Cruz Bay is probably no more than 25 minutes. Miss Vie's/Hanson Bay is also close and we highly recommend a visit to this beautiful beach.
Terri is such a helpful owner and is so easy to deal with! We had no problems booking our visit and she was always there to answer questions by phone or email. Her property manager Nancy is also very helpful and super nice. Nancy took us to the market to shop and then on to the villa during the evening of our arrival and never complained or rushed us even though it was late into the evening.
We looked at many property listings before deciding on Pink Horses. We feel that we made the right decision and we would not hesitate to stay here again!
This was our first trip to this wonderful island. We were looking for something a little off the beaten path and we ended up in paradise. Once we settled on St John, I searched dozens of listings looking for a great view and a place that my family could make life long memories at. Pink Horses delivered that and more! Terri Irwin is an excellent owner and the transactions with her were as easy as could be. Upon arrival on the island, we met Nancy, her onsite manager, who led us across the island to Pink Horses and she gave us the complete walk through and answered all of our questions. Renting a 4WD Jeep is a must and there are many places on the island where if you don't have 4WD, you could be in stuck (rented from Paradise Rentals on St Thomas www.pdiseinc.com). The trade winds were pretty active that week and the breezes on the mountain were strong. We pretty much kept the doors and windows open most of the time and sleeping with the breezes and night sounds was awesome! The morning sunrises with coffee on the deck was so perfect, I could have stayed there for hours. The full moon on Christmas night lit up Coral Bay almost like it was daytime. We ate all of our breakfast and about half of our dinners at the villa. The Kitchen is fully equipped and I even made a Christmas pork roast island style. With all of the snorkeling and hiking we did, I am definitely glad there was a washer and dryer onsite.
Our favorite adventures were the Reef Bay hike (seeing the Petroglyphs), Rams Head hike with the amazing 360 views, Annaberg Sugar Plantation, and the many beaches along the North Shore Rt 20 (Francis, Maho, Trunk, Cinnamon, and Hawksnest). We swam with sea turtles on Maho and got some amazing GoPro footage. We also kayaked and Paddle-boarded from Cinnamon Bay.
In Cruz Bay, we explored many of the local shops and restaurants. We picked up some islands spices at St John Spice and we really enjoyed Mongoose Junction with lunch at the Tap Room.
We picked up various provisions from either the Dolphin Market in Coral Bay or when we were in Cruz Bay, the Starfish Market had everything we needed.
In Coral Bay we ate at Skinny Legs, Indigo Grill, Aqua Bistro and had Sunday Brunch down the cost at Cafe Concordia (after the Rams Head hike). Renting snorkeling gear for the week from Crabby's was definitely the way to go. Can't wait to get back to the island and would definitely return to Pink Horses! Thank you Terri !!!
This was our third trip to St. John & Coral Bay. Pink Horses is a fantastic villa. Terri was very easy to deal with during our booking process (very prompt replies) & check-in was a breeze! The villa was lovely & very clean. The breezes on the outside porch were amazing (June)....really. The kitchen is very functional & open to the entire first floor which is great if you are cooking.This is a great villa for two couples, as it has one bedroom up & one bedroom down. The air conditioning in the bedrooms functioned well. However, on a few nights of our 7 day stay, the breezes were so fantastic that we slept without A/C. We used the pool a few times after returning from the beach & the water was always just right. We would definitely recommend this villa to our friends & family. It was a 5 minute drive to the main strip of Coral Bay and close to everything. If you love Coral Bay, you will love this beautiful villa! We will definitely stay here again!
Pink Horses is a beautiful property located on a steep hillside in one of my favorite spots in the world, Coral Bay. Upon arrival on STJ and picking up our Jeep from Amy @ Amalie Car Rentals, we drove to Red Hook and hopped the ferry. Upon arrival in Cruz Bay, we provisioned at Starfish Market, then drove to Coral Bay and met Nancy, the property manager for Pink Horses. She led us to Pink Horses, up a paved road, then turned onto a semi-paved road that was rugged in a few spots. A Jeep is the preferred vehicle. The bumps and bounces were worth it once we arrived at Pink Horses....lovely house, fabulous views, delightful breezes, comfortable chairs on both decks to drink in the scenery. Nancy was very kind to show us the house and explain its workings. The house has been well maintained and is extremely clean. A search of the kitchen cupboards reveals plenty of dishes, pots and pans, cooking and eating utensils. Our bedroom with King bed had plenty of clothing storage, nice linens, a very nice adjoining bathroom with an indoor AND outdoor shower with a view. The guys watched a football game one night in the living room with large screen tv. Our friends' room on the lower level was also nice and comfortable with a detached bathroom. There was not a lot of clothing storage in that room. We used the washer mid-week; it works flawlessly and helps cut down the amount of clothing one needs to bring. There is also a dryer, but we used the breezes. We had a minor plumbing issue in the master bathroom, but a call to Nancy's husband, Ernie, had the leak repaired lickety-split quick. We appreciated his timely response. The pool is enticing, especially after several hours at any of the nearby beaches. One day, we played Skip-Bo on the rear patio, still outside but away from the breezes. The plantings around the house are beautiful, and there are lots of birds! The house's location is also near many good Coral Bay restaurants...Aqua Bistro, Indigo Cafe, Concordia Cafe. Cruz Bay is a 25 minute scenic drive with more restaurants...we always patronize Ocean Grille...and lots of nice shopping. Go see Kima at Out of The Blue and treat yourself to a nice piece of jewelry made on STJ as a reminder of your visit to this lovely island. Kudos to Terri, PH's owner, who is conscientious about returning one's calls, answering any questions and responding to emails. If possible, we will return to Pink Horses sooner rather than later. My family of four stayed at Pink Horses during the week of July 20-27, 2014. It met our needs perfectly. We prefer the quiet side of Coral Bay and the views from this villa looking out at the bay are outstanding. We were able to sleep with the doors open on most nights so that the breeze cooled us. We had late night rains on three occasions, which was pleasantly welcomed, and so it was necessary to close the doors during the night. Waking to the views from the upstairs bedroom was fantastic. We look forward to seeing the sunrise that is visible from this location. So special to watch on St. John. We enjoyed having our morning coffee on the outside deck listening to Coral Bay awaken. The kitchen had all the cooking utensils we needed and we typically cooked our evening meals at home. Loved all the tropical decor in the house- just the right feel on St. John. Having an outdoor shower is a must and this villa has it. The views from the outside shower are just what is needed to complete a relaxing and memorable vacation. Lots of vegetation add to the beauty of the place. We used the pool on a few occasions after coming home from numerous beach visits. The road is paved most of the way with the exception of a small road leading to the driveway of the villa. Easy to get to villa that provided the perfect setting our family was looking for to create fantastic family memories. Terri's expertise and help during the booking process was fantastic.
Our Home is based on guests, as a 1 bedroom (max 2 person) villa rate or a two bedroom (max 4 person) villa rate. We also may consider shorter stays, minimum 4 nights. You deal directly with the owner so please do email or call. We have a wonderful House Manager and property maintenance on-island.
