About Bernie & Albert Prendiville

We have been coming to this part of Kerry for over 20 years on holidays. We built the house in 2005 in order to be able to spend more time in this beautiful part of the world.

Bernie & Albert Prendiville purchased this cottage in 2005

Why Bernie & Albert Prendiville chose Ballinskelligs

Scairbhin is a beautiful, light filled house. It is equipped to a very high standard and is comfortable and warm. It is a great place to relax and enjoy the area.

What makes this cottage unique

The house is situated on the Wild Atlantic Way and is located in the Kerry International Dark Sky Reserve. The mountains and seascapes are stunning and the sky is stunning by night. There are great local amenities and sites. Derrynane, Portmagee, Valentia & Cahersiveen are all within easy driving distance of Ballinskelligs. The Skellig Ring is stunning as is the Ring of Kerry. From within the house you can relax and just enjoy being there - the peace and tranquility of the area allow for a great 'break away from it all'.

Super stay in a great house

  • 5 of 5

We spent an August week in Scairbhin and had a great time. The house is imaginatively laid out with a super kitchen and living area with great natural light. The kitchen is well equipped as indeed is the rest of the house, with well-appointed bedrooms and bathrooms. Lots to do for the family in the vicinity. By the way we managed to get "standby" seats on a landing trip to Skellig Michael, turning up to Portmagee first thing the morning; it really topped off a great week in the Kingdom of Kerry!

Anniversary stay!

  • 5 of 5

From the minute we arrived at Scairbin, we fell in love with the cottage and the area….the pictures on this website simply do not do it justice. We were absolutely delighted with the size, style and layout of the accommodation. It is split level, bedrooms and kitchen on lower level and the lounge on the first floor up wooden steps - the views from there are fabulous –hills and greenery…just beautiful. We were very blessed with the weather and so were able to enjoy the scenery at its best. You can also see the sea from the lounge which was a wonderful surprise.

There is an open fire which is very cosy at night and I loved sitting on the rocking-chair reading and looking at the views. There is also a flat-screen TV and a fast wifi connection (which wasn’t listed on the website)..although we couldn’t get the DVD to display the picture properly. The large glass windows in the roof let a lot of light in and are wonderful to see the stars if you are fortunate enough for a nice clear night. There is a little balcony from the lounge with chairs which is a sun-trap.

The cottage itself is well furnished, cosy and tastefully decorated – the main bedroom has a lovely wrought-iron bed and on-suite and the other two rooms are equally nice with pine furniture and fittings. The kitchen had everything we needed (although the microwave was a bit temperamental!) There is also a small snooker table and a fuse-ball table for the kids as well as many books and games. It was very quiet and peaceful and perfect for a romantic get-away or a family holiday.

The area itself is fabulous – just a few minutes drive away from a lovely beach and in easy reach of many others…we enjoyed driving round the Ring of Kerry, the Dingle Peninsula and we also had a fun boat trip to Skellig Michael (now famous for appearing in the new Star Wars film!) – we recommend to go with Gearoid Moran – book at the Moorings Hotel, Portmagee….we also recommend you take sea-sickness tablets…it is VERY choppy out there!!!

Waterville is only a 10 minute drive away and Cahersiveen is about 20 minutes and there you will find lots of nice shops, places to eat, a Supa-Value supermarket and the cheapest petrol we found in Ireland!

All in all we had a fabulous time staying at Scairbin – thank you Bernie and Albert for sharing your beautiful house with us, we really didn’t want to leave, it made our 22nd wedding anniversary very special and we hope one day to return!
