Sunset Villa offers a sophisticated, comfortable and relaxing holiday for up to 4 people (adults and children) , The villa is in a steep hill (700 meters above sea level) where the views of the sea, countryside and mountains are magic. It's only half a mile to the sea, supermarkets, bars, shops and restaurants.. Rethymnon town is only 3.5 miles with the old town and loads of history. There are 4 seating areas outside the villa all with lovely views. Roof terrace has a seating area with 2 hammocks, where you can just relax looking at the sunrise over the mountains.
In the pool seating area are lemon tree, surrounding flowers and climbers like bougainvillea with loads of aromatic smells in the air make you feel in paradise.

My name is Ibrahim, I am British/Egyptian. I work as a finance analyst and management accountant. I bought Sunset Villa 5 years ago. It's not just a holiday home for me, it's much more than that. I picked Crete because I use to go there each summer holiday when I was student in Alexandria University. I use to work in farms, restaurants and hotels. I made loads of friends and I speak the Greek language. It was a dream for me to build a house in Crete as I felt it was my home. I came from a very poor background and this would be my first house ever. I finished at university then went to the UK to specialise in management accounts. Worked very hard, saved some money, then went back to look for a plot of land and built with a new vision in my mind of a holiday home.
Ibrahim Soliman purchased this villa in 2004
I went to many places in Crete to buy the plot of land I had imagined, but nothing really moved me.
One day I went to see a plot in Agia Triada village, when I arrived there and stood on the land, I said 'wow!'. I said yes immediately, it was exactly what I wanted, near the beach, supermarkets and restaurants, but far enough away to be peaceful and quiet. (It is only half a mile.) The views from where I stood were magical. It's very strange how you can feel that you are related to a place from the first visit, you just feel at home. I had a lot of input in designing the villa, so I feel it is my baby! I wanted to make the villa different to other holiday homes. I wanted people to feel at home, relaxed, at peace and to enjoy every minute of their holiday.
A holiday in sunset villa will re-charge your batteries because of the fresh air, peace and quiet. The villa is surrounded with magical views of the sea, mountains, olive groves and across the valley. Where ever you are in the villa you will enjoy the views. Even when you are in the sitting room having a drink you will see the valley. This is one of the benefits you get in sunset villa and you wouldn't be able to get it in many other places due to the location of the villa. It is high on a hill so you can have great views from anywhere. If you go up to the roof terrace there are 2 even bigger benefits; number 1 the views are even better, and number 2, you will have more time in the sun while other surrounding villas have no sun around late afternoon.
A beautiful villa with stunning views made for a fantastic holiday. It was everything we had hoped for and sitting in the hammocks on the roof terrace gave us some wonderful memories. As described, the villa was in a very quiet and peaceful location but with a car, (which is essential), getting to the local shops and tavernas wasn't a problem. Ibrahim was a very good host, he kept us updated prior to the holiday and the pick up from the airport and the hire car which he organised went without a hitch. Altogether a great weeks holiday and I would definitely recommend Sunset Villa for a relaxing break in the sun.
“Our holiday to the Sunset Villa was in one word excellent. The information supplied by Ibrahim prior to the holiday and the value for money was tremendous. We also arranged car hire through Ibrahim and the company collected us from the airport. An fantastic and stress free service for the novice tourist driving abroad! The villa itself is situated slightly away from the nearest resort and about 9 km from Rethymnon Old Town, which are both easily accessible by car - once you have mastered the roads and the local drivers! Around the property there are three other villas, all of which were empty at the start of our holiday and then one was populated on the last couple of days with an elderly couple with a hearing problem – hence the loud TV at night. That said, they didn’t stay up too late. The villa was very well equipped with everything that you would require for a self-catering break, but you must not miss the opportunity to try the local Greek cuisine. We would definitely recommend Symposium in the old town. The private pool was a welcome relief to the hot weather and the hammocks on the roof terrace were simply wonderful. All in all, we would definitely recommend this villa to other holidaymakers and will probably be back some time in the future.”
We've just returned from a wonderful week-and-a-bit in Sunset Villa. It lived up to expectations, was clean and well-presented and provided a fabulous base from which to explore the central region of the island. We were amazed how few tourists were there to enjoy this idyllic time of year.
The visitor's book was a great idea and gave some really helpful hints for places to go, and places to eat. It appears from many of the comments that the pool is always bracing though! We hope Ibrahim replaces the hammocks - we were disappointed they weren't there, but it didn't spoil our stay.
Although the villa claims to have air-con, this is only in the lounge and is an additional cost. It would be essential in the heat of the summer (even the locals said it gets too hot!) but for our autumnal break, the temperatures were like a perfect British summer - hot, but not uncomfortable. The bedrooms had ceiling fans, but they were noisy and wobbled alarmingly...
The TV is also an irrelevance - although there's a satellite dish, there's no viewing card so there are only two English-speaking news channels to choose from. The DVD player came with a good selection of DVDs - a thoughtful touch. We chose to spend most evenings sampling the local tavernas instead!
Although the villa is rural, that doesn't necessarily mean peaceful! Local assorted dogs & cockerels did their best to out-shout each other through the night, and the neighbouring villa (residential?) liked their TV volume up loud in the evenings. Nothing Ibrahim can do about these, but it beats being on "the strip" with all its associated traffic noise :)
Being the end of the season, there were one or two maintenance issues to address, so 4.5 rather than the full 5 stars from us.
The villa was absolutely wonderful and we had a great two weeks wandering around Crete. The location of the villa is perfect for a quiet holiday but is within easy reach of the main northern road which connects Fallasarna in the extreme west to Agios Nikolaos in the East.
Our only criticisms would be that the water supply appeared very inconsistant and it wasn't until the last day that we discovered that the auxiliary supply pump had been unplugged. The roof terrace was abolutely wonderful (we spent most of our time up there) although the hammocks made so much of in the photos and description are, in fact, broken and in the cupboard under the stairs. The car that Ibrahim kindly arranged would be a little on the small side for a family with their luggage, but suited our purposes very nicely even if it was a little beaten up. The photos could probably do with an update as the lemon tree pictured is now over 2 meters tall!
Whinging aside, we had a fantastic time and would have no hesitation in recommending this lovely villa to anyone.
This is just a short note to say thankyou to you for your wonderful “Sunset Villa” in Crete.
It is true that the villa was as you said remote and a hire car is required but it was still only 10 minutes drive to the nearest beach and 15 minutes to Rethymno. So it was very convenient in its location. And due to its height we were able to enjoy marvellous views from all parts of the villa
The facilities provided exceeded our expectations with roof, pool and 2 other patio areas and the pool just 2 steps from our bedroom door! It is difficult to know how to improve on this! The lounge and dining / kitchen areas were much larger than we thought they would be – the photographs just cannot do justice to what is there to enjoy at Sunset Villa.
The drive to and from the airport or to Chania or anywhere else for that matter give wonderful scenic panoramas to enjoy and make travel by car a pleasure – despite the variable quality of Cretan roads!
Thank you again for making our short visit to Crete such a memorable one.
We stayed in Sunset Villa in Crete in July 2012 and had a wonderful holiday. It is a lovely well appointed comfortable, spacious villa set in the hills in a beautiful location. It was a bit hair raising getting our little hired car up the hill to the villa but it was well worth it for the view. The villa has a really homely feel to it and is stylishly decorated with 2 good sized bedrooms, a large shower room and spacious living area. We loved the pool area and relaxed in the pretty garden around the pool. The villa has a roof terrace with comfortable seating and the view is amazing, we spent many evenings looking at the stars. In fact we spent most of our time at the villa because it was such a lovely place to be in a beautiful location.
The villa is a 10 minute drive from the beach where there are many tavernas and shops. It is a 15 minute drive to Rethymno which is lovely around the fort and harbour area with many tavernas all along the front and quaint shops in the narrow streets in the old part of town.
We had a lovely holiday in Crete especially in Sunset Villa it was a really relaxing place to stay in beautiful surroundings
We arrived back from Crete at the weekend to say we had a lovely time in your villa such a lovely setting and wonderful view. We had spent the previous 8 days in East Crete based just outside Sitia so we toured around a lot so it was nice to chill out in your villa.
Thank you for a very comfortable well equipped villa, we loved the pool area with the beautiful plants and the roof terrace was amazing, it was a bit hair raising getting our little hired car up the road to the villa but we got used to that and it was well worth it for the view.
