We are designated 'Beach Walk', third block from the beach. From the front door it takes 3-5 minutes to walk to the beach. Located on the corner of Myrtle and Holmes, the cottage is right around the corner from the free-water dispensary. Louis's Cottage is a 1930's bungalow. It originally stood in the Edisto National Park and was moved to this site in the 1950's. We have strived to save as much of the character and feel of the old place as possible. To us, this is what a beach experience should be. Enjoy the breezes on the screened in porch with swing and lazy chairs. (My kids like to sleep out there). Relax on the hammock in the afternoons while reading a book. ( This is my favorite pastime). There are two bedrooms upstairs and one full bath with shower. There is also a pull-out sofa bed that would comfortably sleep two upstairs with a curtain divider for privacy, if the downstairs detached bedrooms are not utilized. The downstairs bedrooms contain one full-sized bunk bed that can sleep 4, an additional full-size bed, washer and dryer and a half-bathroom. We have had as many as 10 people sleeping in the house, but recommend it for no more than 6, as it is a small cottage. The two downstairs bedrooms are not attached to the upstairs. You have to go outside to access them. While they are useful for our family, these two rooms have a basement feel. That is why we recommend 6 guests or less. Most people utilize the upstairs and reserve the downstairs for laundry.

The Owner purchased this cottage in 2007
I chose Edisto Beach because, as a southerner, I have vacationed along SC beaches all my life. To me, Edisto Beach is what Myrtle Beach's coasts used to be. It is a family beach, unspoiled by too much commercialism. It reminds me of Martha's Vineyard. Everyone prefers biking to driving their cars. The island's very design prevents too much commercial development. Yet, you have access to a golf course, shops and restaurants, water sports and some of the finest fishing around. There is a lovely walking/biking trail near our cottage that is predominantly shaded. Biking/walking/golfcart easements are on practically every road in Edisto. To me, it is the perfect getaway destination.
I bought this property in 2007 because it reminded me of the cottage I enjoyed with my Godparents when I was growing up. That old cottage had been moved from Darlington, SC to a site in Surfside Beach. It was imperfect, with its uneven floors, and aged appearance. It was a place where we could let our hair down and be casual and just enjoy the beach. The first time I walked into my Edisto cottage, I had that same other-world feeling - like I had stepped back in time when things were simpler and time could just slow down. In fact, I named the cottage after Louis, my Godfather. He was in the final stages of pancreatic cancer when I brought him down to view the property. He whispered, 'I love it,' and that was enough for me. He and I both felt like we were back at the beach cottage I had grown up enjoying. That is exactly the way I feel when I come home to Edisto. When I leave, I am rejuvenated and ready to get back to 2012. I love to relax in the hammock. The kids and I will pull out the fire pit and roast hotdogs near the picnic table in the side yard. My husband and I love to walk the beaches in the early morning hours when the sun comes up. The dolphins especially like the morning hours and you can see them in little herds less than 40 yards from the surf. At night, our children like to take their flashlights and go ghost crab hunting. The little white crabs scamper all over the beach and the kids chase them and sometimes they bravely catch them and chase me with them! When the bowl-like jelly fish are around, they pick them up by their rounded tops and 'chuck' them deeper in the ocean. My sons love to skimboard too. We keep it simple down there and focus on the memories that we make together. So, come on in, but kick your shoes off at the door. Enjoy the original floors (and all their character and imperfections) and remember what it was like when you were a teenager and could head to the beach in super casual comfort
We had a great ladies weekend will definitely used this place again. It was just a short walk to the beach. Enough room for all of us to be comfortable..Loved the front porch. The basement was a little musky but you could sleep down there but their was enough room upstairs for all of us ..Convenient to the water .Just loved it.
This home was such a charming stay for our family. Perfect size for 2 couples and a child. Great distance from the beach, and perfectly located on the island. As previous reviews state, the basement isn't suitable for using as living space other than for the occasional extra bathroom trip when needed and washing clothes, but the main living area is great. We loved the character of the home. Kitchen is fully equipped and house is nicely decorated.
The house does need a few minor fixes - the outdoor shower needs a new door handle and a new knob on the cold water (we had to use a bottle opener to turn it on and off); the ceiling fan in the front bedroom doesn't work; the screen on the porch needs to be repaired; and the tv in the back bedroom isn't programmed and the remote was nowhere to be found to do this - all minor things.
On a positive note - the patio table area is a great place for a Lowcountry boil! We loved it! Will definitely stay here again and would recommend to others.
I felt it was lacking in overall maintenance.Ripped screens, poor maintenance of porch wicker furniture. Silverware and some serving utensils in poor condition. Some baking dishes very poor condition. Needed to be thrown away. Basement musty. My daughter did not want to sleep there. Outdoor shower was convenient but one of the handles broken so had to figure a way to turn it on. Yard poorly maintained. Would have appreciated note regarding where to get water. Figured it out after a few days. Not happy about roaches. Comfortable beds, nice TV, chairs and couch dirty. Liked the location. Would not stay in that property again.
The Cottage was exactly as pictured...Very nice, clean and cozy.. There was enough space for my whole family...Kitchen was equipped with appliances...All beds had coverings just no linens....I loved the screened in porch it was very relaxing listening to the Ocean....The hammock was a enjoyable rest area....Ms.Lima was very nice and helpful...I recommend this Cottage to others, and I myself look forward to returning...
The house was advertised as 4 bedrooms, 1 1/2 bath. The pictures on the internet are deceiving. The 2 bedrooms downstairs which is one with a full bed and one with the bunk beds are not in the best shape, in fact I wouldn't let anyone sleep down there. The 2 bedrooms upstairs are okay and you have a pull out couch upstairs. The house is very old and needs lots of work. Not the best place to stay.
We had a great time in the house, it is very close to the beach, everything on the island is 5 or less minutes away. The neighborhood was very quiet and great for taking strolls in the evenings.
