a typical serene location; a warm welcoming house, cozy all the way in the closets.. we felt right at home amid all that beautiful natural wood every where.
Unfortunately, we did not stay long enough to enjoy the many amenities it has to offer. There is sufficient cozy heating for the cooler nights. We loved it. I whole heartedly recommend this to any one. Stay a week at least or you will regret it too..
The surrounding tropical forest and second floor accommodations create a comfortable tree house effect. There was lots of room for the five of us, with plenty of elbow room inside and on the beautiful second floor deck at the front of the house. We really liked the gas fire pit; we did not use the hot tub downstairs or the corner stove heating unit in the living room; there is no apparent central heating. We were there in late June, with hot days and cool nights. The kitchen was well stocked with utensils, cookware, and a large fridge. The property was very clean, and had lots of cozy seating and comfortable beds. The property manager lives quietly on the lower level, and was very welcoming.
We enjoyed Hale Mauna Loa's close proximity to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. Kīlauea is incredible at nightfall! Hilo was an easy 30-mile drive away. We also made the trip to the south coast and the Sea Arch. Be aware that the closest large grocery store (FoodLand Kea'au) is twenty miles away, so stock some provisions on your way to Hale Mauna Loa.
We enthusiastically recommend this property to anyone.
This is a great house for a family of 5 to stay at while visiting Volcanoes National Park, it is 5 minutes from the park entrance which is convenient to see the volcano during the day and at night. The house is spacious and in a very tropical location, feels like you are in a tree house. Dated interior and no frills, but clean and functional. 3 bedrooms so everyone had a bed. Kids loved the hot tub.
Hale Mauna Loa was exactly what we were looking for to explore Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. It was spacious and nicely furnished, and the jungle setting is beautiful. The large covered deck, hot tub, BBQ, and laundry were all great amenities (note that you should bring your own laundry detergent). The kitchen is large and good for preparing your own food, with the exception of the knives, which were all quite dull. The water had a bit of an odor... maybe a Brita filter would help? The proximity to the park is a big plus, and we appreciated the ice chest provided in the kitchen so we could take our lunches with us during the day.
We enjoyed our stay here and appreciated Joey's fast communication. Definitely recommended!
Peaceful, quite, serene & relaxing vacation rental. The home was equipped with everything we needed. Fully stocked kitchen. Cozy propane fireplace and large patio deck. Perfect setting and ambiance for reflection & goal setting
We recently rented this home in Volcano and it was perfect for us. Loved the clean hot jacuzzi that was ready for us. Beds very comfortable. Super location. We will definitely rent this place again.
The location is really convenient to the park - ~5min away. House is big and well laid out and even has hot tub.
The house is getting mildly run down (little things like microwave handle is broken, chair screws are loose, etc), decor is getting dated, has a bit of an odour (?prior smoker).
but overall was a reasonable place to stay and would recommend.
