Overview

About the property

2 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, Sleeps 6

Steps to the Beach is, in a word, spectacular. When you come in through the main entrance the first thing you notice is how spacious, open, and airy this fully air conditioned, 3,000 square foot house is. Under the impressive 16-foot vaulted cypress ceilings is a Great Room that seamlessly blends the kitchen, living, and dining room areas. The house offers plenty of light with large windows and sliding glass doors throughout for you to enjoy the rare views of the stunning Eleuthera sunrises and sunsets –something not to be missed.

Steps to the Beach is furnished with comfortable Tahitian-style furniture and has all of the amenities you’d expect. The kitchen is an appealing combination of mahogany and marble with a bar-top that can accommodate up to 6 people. It’s equipped with stainless steel appliances, including a gas range stove top, dishwasher, refrigerator, microwave and plenty of kitchen tools for those who love to cook. Just outside the kitchen door is a wrap-around deck with a custom built-in grill perfect for grilling up your fresh catch after a day of fishing in the warm Caribbean waters.

Also located on the main floor is a beautifully appointed guest bedroom complete with a Tahitian queen sized bed and a modern bathroom with a large, walk-in shower. Step out onto the room’s private balcony for breathtaking views of the lush Bahamian foliage with the crystal clear turquoise ocean as the backdrop.

A beautiful custom made wooden spiral staircase takes you to the top floor of the house where the master suite (and only the master suite) is located. Well-furnished and complete with its own luxurious full bathroom, the bedroom features a 4-poster, king-sized bed and panoramic views. Two private balconies are yours to enjoy sweeping views of the Atlantic Ocean and Long Pond, a serene body of water located on the back end of the property. (Long Pond contains fish and does NOT breed mosquitoes.) End a perfect day on the beach by curling up in your bed with the sound of the ocean to gently lull you to sleep.

Steps to the Beach, a few steps out the front door and you’re on a private path that leads you to your own secluded beach, with its fine white sand and turquoise water making it perfect for snorkeling, kayaking or doing nothing at all. There is a kayak and an outdoor shower for your use.

Therein lies the beauty of Steps to the Beach: off the beaten path, your own luxurious, Bahamian style villa with spectacular views, private beach access, and the peace and serenity you crave. Hunker down at the house and get away from it all or take a quick 10 minute drive to Governor’s Harbour, a quaint little town where you can shop, eat, or meet the local fishermen when they arrive every afternoon with their fresh catch of the day.

People who rent Steps to the Beach often have a hard time leaving, and always want to come back. We hope you feel the same way. Over and over again, we’ve heard the same thing: it’s like a home away from home…only it’s just steps to the beach!

Paradise found...the house, the beach, the privacy..amazing!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Steps to the Beach at the end of March 2017 in the prelude to Jazzfest. We ate at the common jaunts from Tippy's to Pascal's to Wild Orchid...The house is simply amazing, well cared for, well appointed (ductless AC units in every room!) super clean and being on the Atlantic side of the island a constant breeze is blowing so if there were any bugs we never saw a single one....sunrises on the beach were amazing and sunsets over the lagoon were untouchable by words...in the mornings, large long legged birds walked in the lagoon, and at night the only traffic we saw was a cruise ship on the horizon slowly meandering by....couldn't snorkel the Atlantic side this visit as the waves were pretty steady but the water was warm, the sand powder soft, and the crabs were friendly :)...We would recommend this house to anyone looking for privacy, luxury, and peace...the Beach Book was a great read! Leave it at the house so it lasts but jot down the directions to some of the island's amazing "hidden" beaches....it's so well located you can't pick a better area to stay! We loved our time there and the owners and care takers were more than responsive....all in all being our 8th visit to the island and our second home rented we were very pleased in upgrading the square footage and the stay! Great home! Great vacation! Great island! And most importantly NO HASSELS!!! It was perfect!

Nice

  • 3 of 5

Steps to the Beach was a comfortable, open air home . By the way it's now a.beaitiful shade of blue. The location is on a dirt road over looking the Atlantic. The living and dining rooms were very soacious. The kitchen was well stocked and had plenty of room. The bedrooms were also comfortable as well as the bathrooms. The owners have done some renovations, bathrooms and wood ceilings throughout the home. The spiral staircase leading to upstairs bedroom was challenging. Also, the owners are aware and plan to fix, the glass sliders to the outside spaces were a bit tough to work and some screens were missing . It was cool when we were their in March and didn't need AC at all but couldn't keep some of sliders open because of missing screens. There are wonderful ceiling fans throughout the house which were perfect. Wifi and TV were great. You need a car to stay here because of the secluded area. We stayed 6 nights and were perfectly comfortable. The beach in front of the home is gorgeous and great for a walk but since it's the Atlantic side, not ideal for swimming or water activities. The owners were great and responded to all questions and the caretaker on island was also there to help. I would recommend staying here. Comfortable, clean, basic home on gorgeous Eleuthera.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review and we're glad you enjoyed your stay. Just a quick note about the beach in front of the house. Usually the water is quite calm and allows for great swimming and snorkeling, however the water has been a little choppy for the last couple of weeks. It's nothing specific to the beach in front of our house - it's more because of the weather in general. Actually our beach tends to be a little calmer than rest of the beaches on the Atlantic side of the island because of the large barrier reef that's located just offshore. Thanks again for staying at Steps to the Beach.

Wonderful vacation on Eleuthera!

  • 5 of 5

We greatly enjoyed our stay at Steps to the Beach! The house was very clean, and extremely well stocked with kitchen and beach supplies. The location was great, at the end of a sandy road and on a beautiful beach where we could swim and snorkel right in front of the house. The location (close to Governors Harbor) provided easy access to stores, restaurants and other beaches to explore. The wi-fi worked well. We worked with Eleuthera Vacation Rentals to book the house who were extremely helpful, professional and responsive.

Really is just steps to a beautiful beach

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time on Eleuthera. Steps to the Beach is a large, clean and well equipped villa. From the master suite upstairs you have a sunrise view of the ocean and the pond. There are 2 very spacious master suites. It's on the Atlantic side, which I think is more scenic and the beach is just a short path away. It's a great area for snorkelling, kayaking and long walks. Just around the corner is Double Bay beach which has even more fine pinkish sand. It's on a single lane dirt road, as many beaches are and we found it easier to explore in a Jeep. The island is long and lots of great beaches to see - you definitely need a vehicle. Island Farm is just a few miles away and has great fresh baked bread, sauces and fresh fruit and vegetables. There are also some good restaurants within 30 minutes - Tippy's, 1648, Pascal's and Governor's Harbour. We did a tour with Fishbone tours in Savannah sound which is also just a short drive from the villa. The villa was ideal for our family and a nice area to unwind after a day at the beach.

Very nice accomodations

  • 4 of 5

My family of 6 stayed for one week. The home was clean and fairly well maintained. There were lots of small bugs in the kitchen (mites? ants? not sure), but we've been on other islands and they are impossible to keep out, and they really aren't any bother. There were a few minor repairs needed, but nothing that really impacted our stay. We did run out of water on the last day right before leaving for the airport, so that complicated things as we tried to prepare to depart, but it was a minor inconvenience. The wifi is very limited and with all of our family on it with their smartphones it wasn't working all that well, but that was okay since we were on a beautiful island and the internet was not that important. The beach is very nice, but the Atlantic side was a bit too choppy for us to do much snorkeling off our beach. Next time we come we will try to research when the Atlantic is typically the calmest. However, there are 135 beaches on the island on both the Caribbean and Atlantic side so there were plenty of decent snorkeling spots that were short drives. The snorkeling was just okay, but had the Atlantic been calmer I think we would have had even better snorkeling opportunities. The road leading to the home is one lane for a good ways, with some blind curves and hills, so it is imperative to drive very slowly. There was one kayak at the home, but no one really wanted to kayak by themselves so didn't use it (I'd suggest getting one more for future guests). There were plenty of towels provided which was nice, and the kitchen was well stocked, however I'd recommend for future guests that more toilet paper and paper towels are provided.

We enjoyed our stay very much. It was our first time to the island and there's lots to see and do so we were going the entire time. We traveled the entire island as it doesn't take as long as you'd think to get from Governor's Harbor to the northern and southern parts. There were amazing things to see at the glass bridge up north and the lighthouse area on the southern tip was also amazing. I found out that you can fly directly into North Eleuthera airport from Atlanta and bypass the small jet from Nassau to the Governor's Harbor airport. Next time we will do that as the small jet was having mechanical issues and the guy repairing our plane did little to instill confidence (his tools were in a ziplock bag and consisted of a crescent wrench and bailing wire - no I'm not kidding or exaggerating).

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review and we’re glad you enjoyed your stay. My husband and I bought the house in December of 2015 and are in the process of making a number of upgrades. The first thing we did was install Wi-Fi, replace both beds and buy new sheets and towels. After you left we addressed the internet speed since other guests had brought the issue to our attention. I apologize it wasn’t taken care of before your arrival but we had back-to-back renters and we really try to avoid inconveniencing our guests with service calls if at all possible. As for the kayak, we couldn’t agree with you more, and assure you a second one will be purchased very soon. I’m glad you were happy with the kitchen equipment, but I will mention that we’re also working on restocking the kitchen with higher quality kitchenware and upgrading some of the appliances as well. As for the bugs, you’re absolutely right that it’s just about impossible to keep them out of an island house completely (we’ve tried!), but I assure you and all future guests that we will do our best to minimize the problem. Unfortunately the water issue is one that is an island-wide problem and has been for a while now. The good news is that the house has a very large cistern that we can switch to should the “city” water run out. Our caretaker is very good about making sure there’s enough water in the cistern before guests arrive, but it often requires a refill if our guests rely solely on the cistern for the entire week they’re there. Regardless, you have our sincere apologies for the inconvenience. We will do everything possible to make sure this doesn’t happen in the future. Regarding the surf, the water can be as calm as a lake on days without wind. Normally the warmer months, May through October, have little wind. The cooler months have more windy days, but you can have calm days in the winter, too. There is a barrier reef offshore which keeps the surf down, so there are never big waves. My husband and I love Eleuthera and feel very lucky to own a home there that we can share with others. We want nothing more for our guests than total satisfaction and we hope that our ongoing efforts to improve the house help make that happen. Thank you for your kind review and we hope you pay another visit to Steps to the Beach real soon.
