My family absolutely loves the outdoors and we also live on the Boardman River down stream. We enjoy kayaking, gardening, hiking, and bird watching. We take our two dogs for long hikes on the state land while looking for new exciting finds that the woods have to offer. We are also excited to share this with others who share our passion for the outdoors. This cottage is a unique place!
Richard purchased this cottage in 2012
I purchased this property quite honestly because I have been here most of my life and I have found it to be in one of the best locations in the area. I love the outdoors but like the fact that I can be in Traverse City quickly with a beautiful drive to get there. The wildlife, fresh air, and of course the Boardman river being steps away, well you just can't beat it. I see all types of birds , deer, fox, partridge, well it goes on and on. Truly it has all the flavor of the now well known 'Pure Michigan.' And how about the Fall Colors
Wildlife including: deer, turkeys, partridge, rabbits, bobcats, and ducks. Birdwatching: Piliated woodpeckers, eagles, hawks, owls, hummingbirds, and orioles. Hiking, fourwheeling, snowshoeing, snowmobiling, cross country skiing. Beautiful view of river. Kayaking, tubing, fishing, and swimming. And lets not forget the fall colors! Also we have the Chery festival in July, the Horse show in July, and the Film festival after that!
Great experience! My wife and I stayed with our two daughters and their husbands. We had plenty of room/space with two bedrooms upstairs and one downstairs. The setting on the river couldn't have been more picturesque and peaceful. The cabin sits on the Boardman River back from the road a little bit nestled among the trees. Perfect for our family gathering of six adults. The place was super clean, tidy and well organized with everything we needed for a relaxing stay. Pizza and sub sandwich place and grocery store within minutes if you need to buy supplies or if you're in the mood for ordering out. Richard was a gracious host. We especially enjoyed kayaking on the river one particular morning. Thanks, Richard! If you're looking for a quiet, peaceful retreat with all of the amenities of home and close to the Traverse City area, then this place is perfect. Will definitely be back again!
We had a great time at the river cottage. It's a really nice space that's obviously well taken care of. It's got a bit of a 70's throwback feel, which we liked. The property is very secluded with good tree cover. There was plenty of firewood provided for the pit, which we used every night. The hot tub was great too. We weren't fans of the soft water, but that was a minor detail. Richard was attentive and very friendly. He has kayaks for rent and he transported us and the gear to the put-in location. This place is a great value and we recommend it!
Our stay at Richard's cottage was fantastic! We couldn't have asked for a better place to relax and enjoy the area around Travers city. Just a few minutes drive away from all the activities in Traverse City is this beautiful little place right on the river. The five adults on our trip all had a wonderful time. After being on the go all day, we were able to unwind in the hot tub then relax around the fire-pit only feet from the beautiful river.
The cottage had everything we needed, We did a little cooking in the kitchen and having the washer/dryer was definitely a big plus. The location has to be the best part. You just can't beat morning coffee on the deck or evening by the fire. Leaving was the hardest part. I don't believe anyone will be disappointed with their stay here when they visit the Traverse City area.
My family and in laws recently stayed at this cottage, and we all had a blast. I'd highly recommend to families who are looking for a private setting with loads of options for adventure in the immediate area.
We all truly had a great time!
Our group of 6 had a fabulous stay in the cabin and are already planning our return next summer. Richard graciously brought us his coffee grinder to ensure those needing their morning Joe got their fix. The kayak trip was a real treat - I hope to do a longer float next summer, now that we know how easy and convenient it is. A great place for those wanting to soak up the beautiful, peaceful woods. If you're looking for a rowdy party cabin, this isn't your place - leave it to those of us that truly appreciate the serenity of this idyllic cabin.
We loved staying at the cottage. It was very clean and well stocked with essentials. We particularly liked being right on the river with our own bridge to fish from. The location was great for outings. We went kayaking, fishing and beach combing. It was a short weekend for us and wished we could have stayed longer. The cottage was very comfortable for the four of us to hang out having an open concept living room area, large deck and fire pit.
