My family absolutely loves the outdoors and we also live on the Boardman River down stream. We enjoy kayaking, gardening, hiking, and bird watching. We take our two dogs for long hikes on the state land while looking for new exciting finds that the woods have to offer. We are also excited to share this with others who share our passion for the outdoors. This cottage is a unique place!
Richard purchased this cottage in 2012
I purchased this property quite honestly because I have been here most of my life and I have found it to be in one of the best locations in the area. I love the outdoors but like the fact that I can be in Traverse City quickly with a beautiful drive to get there. The wildlife, fresh air, and of course the Boardman river being steps away, well you just can't beat it. I see all types of birds , deer, fox, partridge, well it goes on and on. Truly it has all the flavor of the now well known 'Pure Michigan.' And how about the Fall Colors
Wildlife including: deer, turkeys, partridge, rabbits, bobcats, and ducks. Birdwatching: Piliated woodpeckers, eagles, hawks, owls, hummingbirds, and orioles. Hiking, fourwheeling, snowshoeing, snowmobiling, cross country skiing. Beautiful view of river. Kayaking, tubing, fishing, and swimming. And lets not forget the fall colors! Also we have the Chery festival in July, the Horse show in July, and the Film festival after that!
Great place to "disconnect" while sitting on the porch gazing over the beautiful Boardman river. Impressed by the cleanliness of the house, amenities for preparing meals and Richard's friendly availability. Eager to return!
This place was the much wanted get away this family needed. It was very convenient for any shopping we needed, but right in the middle of this quite secuded forest. My husband was able to do some fishing and I was able to enjoy the hot tub. The fall colors were peak but we would love to see this place in all the seasons. Richard was great and easy to get in touch with. If we are ever in Traverse City again we will want to stay here again.
We decided to return this year to this beautiful cottage for a fall vacation. Having been their last year we wondered if some of the first time thrills would be gone. They were not. This time we new how special this opportunity was, right from the start. This cottage is so cozy. The river meandering by, fires in the wood stove at night, Sunset hot tubs. Falling asleep to views of the river and trees rustling. Total peace. After a long morning of silence, I had to ask my wife is everything was ok. She smiled and said she couldn't be happier and more relaxed. I agreed and we both returned to our books. Richard took us upstream for a 4 hour kayak trip one afternoon. It was beautiful - crystal clear water, weaving through forest and sand dunes. We kayaked right up to the cottage. We did a couple different hikes along the many trail heads, the fall colors were stunning. We rented bikes in town, and rode the tart bike trail up to Suttons bay for lunch and then back. Very scenic, and an easy ride. After we stopped a burrits in town a picked up dinner for our last night at "home". It was a wonderful night, ending with a walk down to the bridge before bedtime to soak up the stars and the river. When we weren't traversing in nature, we were in town. This time we made it to the Apache trout grill. Got seats right away at the bar and had a table in 30 min. It was a great meal. Red ginger was tasty and rockin. We love Popppycocks...the food is great, but it's the low key, relaxing ambience that makes it. And much to our surprise, my mother and father in law just happened to be in traverse city our first night!. We dined with them at the Franklin with some local family friends. They tried to come back to the cottage, but sadly our schedule was full up! There was a bunch of new places to dine. Alliance was recommended. It was totally cool, food was great, along with a real trendy scene. Next year we hope to go to the Cook's table. We mentioned to Richard one day how we were going to go up to harbor springs for a day. Richard quickly stated " why would you do that? Haven't you driven enough? You have barely seen what traverse city has to offer". We couldn't agree with him more. We love this vacation, it's the perfect combination of getting away from it all, and the foodie in you. Thanks Richard!
Very cool property! On the gorgeous Boardman River, tucked back in the woods, everything provided, hot tub out back, plenty of room. Would recommend to anyone. The owner is super nice and explained how everything worked, was available for advice on local things to do; very easy to communicate with. This location seems remote when you are there but really it's just a short ride into Traverse City and all the things to do there. We had a rainy weekend but the river looked great for kayaking and the owner offered us use of his kayaks. The bridge leads only to this house, so you really do have your own bridge!
Dated but great view and super clean. Easy to get to shopping and entertainment and still feel like you are away from everything.
House was very clean and had all we needed to be comfortable. Location was perfect; not far from town and right on the relaxing, beautiful river.
Richard was the perfect host. He made sure we had everything we needed to make our trip perfect. He went above and beyond.
Cottage is located on 20 acres, boardering many miles of state/federal land with access to Hiking Trails, Snowmobile/four wheeling Trails, Horse Riding, mushroom hunting. Also enjoy a short ride to the Sleeping Bear Dunes, Many fine wineries, the Boardman River, the great Town of Traverse City, and much, much more. Come and enjoy what the Real 'Pure Michigan' has to offer. Cherry festival is in July, along with the horse show, and the film festival after that! Enjoy a bonfire by the river and take in all the beauty the night sky has to offer!
