About Richard

My family absolutely loves the outdoors and we also live on the Boardman River down stream. We enjoy kayaking, gardening, hiking, and bird watching. We take our two dogs for long hikes on the state land while looking for new exciting finds that the woods have to offer. We are also excited to share this with others who share our passion for the outdoors. This cottage is a unique place!

Richard purchased this cottage in 2012

Why Richard chose Northern Michigan

I purchased this property quite honestly because I have been here most of my life and I have found it to be in one of the best locations in the area. I love the outdoors but like the fact that I can be in Traverse City quickly with a beautiful drive to get there. The wildlife, fresh air, and of course the Boardman river being steps away, well you just can't beat it. I see all types of birds , deer, fox, partridge, well it goes on and on. Truly it has all the flavor of the now well known 'Pure Michigan.' And how about the Fall Colors

What makes this cottage unique

Wildlife including: deer, turkeys, partridge, rabbits, bobcats, and ducks. Birdwatching: Piliated woodpeckers, eagles, hawks, owls, hummingbirds, and orioles. Hiking, fourwheeling, snowshoeing, snowmobiling, cross country skiing. Beautiful view of river. Kayaking, tubing, fishing, and swimming. And lets not forget the fall colors! Also we have the Chery festival in July, the Horse show in July, and the Film festival after that!

Great Cottage near Traverse City

  • 5 of 5

We booked this place because it was big enough for our group and the reviews were great. We cannot agree more with all the positive reviews. This place is the perfect getaway near Traverse City.

You feel secluded and the river and surroundings around the cottage are prefect. Crossing the bridge for the first time and looking up to the cottage is the best welcome. What is really nice is you feel secluded yet town is just a short drive away(15 minutes).

You also have the Mayfield store 2 miles away for most the basics if you just need a few things.

The cottage furnishings are great. They are comfortable without feeling too plush. I personally don't think cottages should feel like a mansion.

The hottub and wood burning stove were nice amenities that we took advantage of. Its great sitting in the hottub while looking up at the stars.

It had been a couple decades since I was last in Traverse City and I was happily surprised with the area. The town itself had great shopping and restaurants, and the surrounding area was beautiful to drive and hike around. I will definitely return and when I do I won't stay anywhere else.

Awesome Getaway!

  • 5 of 5

Perfect spot for a secluded getaway! My husband booked this for my 30th birthday! We were supposed to go without our two daughters but ended up having to bring them. It still ended up a blast! We were close to Sleeping Bear Dunes, Traverse City and went to Old Mission Lighthouse. We loved getting in the hot tub every night, having a fire and even some fishing. We would have done some kayaking if we could have made it without the girls. Richard was very accommodating for us and even offered to find us a baby sitter! He had everything ready for the fire inside and outside. Really couldn't have asked for a better week away with my husband. Would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it to others - even families with small children.

A rare gem

  • 5 of 5

What an awesome place. Between the cottage itself and Traverse City, our vacation was the perfect combination of getting away from it all and satisfying our need for foodie. The cottage was everything the reviews said it was and more. Everything was there that we needed. So secluded and away from everything. When we arrived it's just like the reviews said the wood-burning stove was set to be lit along with the fire pit down below by the river. During the day we explore Traverse City. The selection of restaurants was fantastic. We couldn't have a bad meal. So much to choose from. So after a great meal we'd head back to the cottage start a cozy fire and soak in the hot tub. Just an awesome time. Thank you Richard for being a gracious host. We are looking forward to our next opportunity to walk across the Boardman River! Bill and Christina
