I studied cinema in Canada and I am both Greek and Canadian citizen. I love architecture and I have renovated 16 houses in Athens. For 15 years I had a company, which made pieces of art from fier forgat, blown glass, marble and wood.
Aris purchased this house in 2012
Because I love the energy of Acropolis which can be felt all around in this area
Peace, quietness, privacy, and all downtown Athens is in walking distance from the house.
Stayed in this house with family of 7. The house was exactly as advertised, and had plenty of room for the 7 of us. A few things that really stood out about this house:
- The pantry was well stocked to start our stay with items such as coffee, spices, beer, wine, and other various food items and toiletries.
- Spiros and his colleague were amazing. They were waiting for us at the airport, and promptly took us straight to the apartment. Once there, Spiros showed us around the apartment and pointed out local highlights. We had also arranged a tour with Spiros to Cape Sounion prior to arriving. When we arrived, Spiros made some recommendations on alternative tours to experience more of the Greek history. We took him up on his offer, and arranged a full day tour to Corinth, Mycenae, Tomb of Agamemnon, town of Nafplio, and the Ancient Theatre of Epidaurus. It was an incredible tour and worth every penny. On the way there was a stop for yogurt and honey that was simply outstanding. Spiros is very knowledgeable and was a great host.
- The location of this apartment was amazing. Everything was in walking distance, including the Acropolis, the Roman Agora, the Ancient Greek Agora, Plaka, the Flea Market, etc. Right around the corner from the apartment was a small bakery that was wonderful. I'll remember the smell of fresh bead each morning as we walked up the street to the bakery.
When we visit Greece again, we will not seek out any other accommodations. This place simply cannot be beat.
This is a great place to stay for your time in Athens. As mentioned, Spiros was excellent in getting us to and from the airport and for giving us tips on where to shop and eat. The best tip he gave us was the bakery around the corner which we visited 2X every day for breads, cookies and sweets. It was really an amazing place. Also, the mini market was quite good and offered just about everything we wanted.
The house itself is terrific. What we liked best about it was that it was a real house full of furniture, books, art work and the like. This is so much better than staying in a place that has just the bare minimum of things.
The other kudos I want to offer is that a number of things weren't working when we first got to the house (heat, lights, internet). Alex who runs the place had a handyman sent over immediately and took care of everything. When you travel things often go wrong and it's the quality of the reaction which matters. In this case, a sincere sense of urgency and great results more than compensated for the issues.
I can very much recommend this place to anyone who is going to Athens and wants a convenient, comfortable place to stay.
My wife and I have stayed in the property twice, once by ourselves and once with another couple. If we go back to Athens, we will stay there again.
Read the other glowing reviews. They are all accurate. The location is wonderful, the area is quiet, any needed shops are nearby and Alexandros and Spiros will take care of you.
For us, the location was very important. It is on a one block long street very near the tourist area but out of it so it is quiet. We walked nearly everywhere. The Acropolis Museum is a couple of hundred yards away. By the way, this museum is an absolute must see. There
are many restaurants nearby from the touristy ones on the pedestrian row to family run such as Smile (just down towards the busy avenue) and To Kati Allo (across from the Acropolis Museum).
The Acropolis was 15 minutes one way and Syntagma Square 15 minutes the other.
The upstairs patio was wonderful (although the access is through a narrow stairway outside or the spiral staircase inside). We ate several meals there. Pita from Smile restaurant and a bottle of wine made a memorable experience. The deck is surrounded by plants and the tree from across the street. This made it feel like you were sitting in a forest rather than in the middle of a large city.
The unit itself was remodeled extensively by Aris and it was a home which is why it
has such a welcoming feeling. There is an extensive music and movie collection available as well as much artistic glassware (made by Aris). The chicken lamp was amazing. In one of the display cabinets is a picture of Aris as a young man. The upstairs bedroom was added as was the patio. This is the reason for the spiral staircase. We had no problem with the staircase but heavy suitcases are better taken up on the outside stairs or unpacked and the contents taken up. The washing machine worked well and we put the clothes out on the deck to dry. It was very convenient. The kitchen was well equipped and worked well for us. You even have your choice of type of wine glasses.
For getting to and from the airport or cruise port, Spiros is excellent. He is also available for tours. He is very knowledgeable as he grew up in the Plaka area underneath the flag at the end of the Acropolis.
Last night suggestion. We went up on the Acropolis and watched the sun set and then went to the outside restaurant at the Acropolis Museum to have a glass of wine and look up at the lighted Acropolis. A wonderful way to end the trip. Of course, ther
Really great place with an amazing location. It has a nice kitchen and very very high ceilings which really make it feel like a home. The location is perfect to. You can walk to all the main Acropolis attractions in under 5 minutes and it also lets you out onto Adriano street neatly so all the restaurants and good shopping areas are right by you, but you still get the benefit of a quiet street.
Spiros and all the others were super helpful and even made us feel right at home.
The apartments was large, comfortable and squeaky clean. Great pick, especially for 3 couples traveling together.
We stayed at Aris's apartment for two weeks in April, 2015. It was extremely comfortable and convenient for our family of 6 people.
Communication with Alexandros (who has been managing this property recently) was prompt, clear, and attentive. Due to a planning snafu on our side, we arrived in Athens 4 days earlier than originally planned and were very grateful that Alexandros responded to us so quickly with the positive news that we could check in early.
The kitchen was one of the best-stocked ones we've seen in over six months of Round The World travel. Paired with convenient grocery stores, bakeries and fruit markets, we were able to cook for ourselves without any challenges. Had the weather been better, we would have loved eating on the roof-top terrace. Having 2.5 bathrooms, too, was extremely useful for our large group. VERY nice to have 3 real beds, although we did have to put one of our teenage boys on the couch, as a double was too small for the two of them.
This apartment is large by European standards. Even with 6 people, we all found some space for ourselves. We were able to unpack and spread out a little. The entertainment center was chock-a-block full of content (books and movies). We enjoyed ourselves watching Harry Potter in Greek (even though we don't speak Greek, and even though there were lots of English language movies to choose from). We also did laundry. Though there is no dryer, there are lots of drying racks that are easy to set up.
All the amenities combined made our stay in Athens quite home-like.
It cannot be overstated how conveniently located this apartment is. We walked *everywhere* and saw everything we wanted to see. For some sightseeing we did need to take the Metro, which is also very close. Hint: if you are staying for some time in Athens, buy the multi-day metro pass, it's worth it at 10 Euro for 5 days.
We appreciated the direct-line contact with Spyros, the taxi driver, who took care of us the first several days we were in Athens, including driving us up to Delphi with several additional stops of interest. Spyros also immediately took care of the two issues we encountered with the plumbing. (Note for future travelers: there's a reason there are small trash-cans right near the toilets in Greece ... they're for your toilet paper which can't be flushed.)
If you are traveling with a group, this apartment cannot be beat.
Aris truly wants to ensure your enjoyment of his property and his city. He went out of his way to make sure that we had excellent dining experiences as well as enjoyment of Athens. From the mini-walking tour to the advice on, not just where to eat, but the best items to order, to his general zest for life and hospitality, Aris ensures you enjoy your time in Athens. We were there for the Marathon and the location is perfect for that as well as walking tours of Athens. Convenient to sites, food and shopping. We will absolutely stay there again. On another note, the house is great not just conveniently located! Aris will also arrange for transportation from and to the airport--our fly-out time was at 0630 and he made sure we had a ride at 0400. Excellence all the way around.
