This luxurious 5000+ square foot river-front southern-style home sits on two acres of beautiful wooded land. We’re situated in the very quiet part of the Flambeau River where the river is shallow and the flow is gentle, making it perfect for canoeing, tubing, and kayaking. It’s secluded and private, and there are 1000 undeveloped acres across the road. This home provides easy access to over 2000 acres of ATV and snowmobile trails and is four short miles away from the Chippewa River and Lake Holcombe landing.
We have 235 feet of river frontage, a wrap-around balcony that offers a sweeping view of the river where you can watch bald eagles soar and dive for fish as you sip your morning coffee. Dangle your feet off the dock and fish for muskie, sturgeon, bass, northern pike, catfish, and yes, the occasional annoying sucker fish, or take the flat-bottomed fishing boat provided to explore fishing opportunities further out. Alternatively, you can take the canoe and imagine what it was like to be a Native American canoeing this same river a couple hundred years ago.
In the evening, enjoy a mixed drink made at the festive outdoor tiki bar and watch the beautiful sunsets over the river. Fire up the gas grill and prepare your catch of the day, and after dark, gather around the fire pit on the natural log seating and roast marshmallows around the fire.
Tearing yourself away from the outdoors will be difficult, but when you do, you’ll be greeted by a warm, cheerful home and a 3-foot porcelain pig offering apples on a platter. You’ll find whimsical things like this throughout the home as this is a haven for fun and relaxation. You’ll want for nothing as far as kitchen appliances are concerned. Make use of a coffee pot, microwave, crock pot, 3-pot crock pot buffet server, griddle, waffle iron, pizza oven, deep fryer, blender, mixer, toaster, several sets of dishes, margarita set, bake ware, cookware, wine glasses, and drink glasses. The large pantry has all the basics
– sugar, flour, spices, etc. Just make sure to replace the stuff you finish so that the next person can enjoy the conveniences of home, too!
There is a large master bedroom with a luxurious queen bed and attached master bath on the main floor, two comfortable bedrooms (one with a full bed and the other with two twin beds) and a full bath on the lower level. Also on the lower level is an office/bedroom and a large laundry room for all of your laundry needs. The 400 square foot loft up above the main floor can accommodate several queen air beds (there are three for your use). My grandchildren love to have slumber parties in the loft, and all ten of them can easily fit with room to spare!
The home has beautiful hand-stained cherry wood cathedral ceilings, a cozy gas fireplace, central air, geothermal heating, Wi-Fi, and DirectTV for your convenience. Bed linens and towels are provided, and there are a few beach towels, too.
And last, but certainly not least, there’s a HUGE finished 3 car heated garage with a marble-topped wine bar. We often use this garage as a gathering place for our extended family on holidays. Complete with a fun palm tree adorned with lights, we love to have holiday meals in there and can easily fit a dozen people. There are also tables that can be used for scrapbooking, quilting, jewelry-making, and other crafting get-togethers.
If you feel the need to leave this amazing property, there are two golf courses nearby, or you can drive to the nearby town of Ladysmith for all of your shopping and antiquing desires. Ski slopes are about a hour away.
Seriously, though, I love this property, and I’m sure you will, too. I’m excited to share it with you!

I fell in love with this house the first time that I saw it. Unfortunately, I'm not able to be there full time so I decided to share it with others that enjoy natures beauty and the outdoors. I have three children, nine grandchildren and one little great granddaughter and they all love it here. I enjoy sharing this unique and peaceful home and have had wonderful guests.
Ann Nelsen purchased this house in 2006
I decided to purchase this property before I ever walked into it - a case of love at first sight. It has a plantation type feeling, two acres of land, a balcony overlooking the river and a great eco system. This home is secluded, the river is quiet, and it's a wonderful place to renew your spirit before you return to the 'real' world.
I love sitting on my balcony with a warm cup of coffee in the mornings while I watch the eagles swoop and dive for fish. I also love sitting around the fire pit with my grandkids while we sing silly songs, tell tall tales, and make s'mores. The river's shallow enough on the near side that the kids can wade into it right off the shore, and it's deep enough on the far side that they can take the canoe or the fishing boat out and fish the deeper waters. My grandson's largest Sturgeon so far is over 50 inches- meanwhile my great granddaughter loves picking the blackberries - and my flowers but what can you say to a cute three year old that brings you a bouquet of petunia's and weeds? You put them in a vase and love them!
Ann, your property is exceptional! We had beautiful days of motorcycling, and when we got back after many hours each day, it was so nice to kick-back by the campfire. You made us feel very at home in your beautiful house. Thank you!
Ann's home is truly a refuge away from the hurried pace that my husband and I usually live. It is about 25 minutes to the nearest grocery store in Ladysmith. Renters may want to stop at Woodman's in Eau Claire before coming to the cabin, but Gordy's and Walmart in Ladysmith have most things that you will need. The home is beautifully decorated, comfortably furnished and well-stocked. It was roomy and a perfect place to have some quiet down time or to gather with friends/family. I love cooking, bird watching and enjoying quiet music while reading - the home was perfect for all of these. The loft was perfect for watching movies that we had rented at the RedBox at Walmart in Ladysmith. The best antique store that we found in the area was on the main drag in Chetek. While relaxing at home, we saw many deer, Baltimore Orioles and hummingbirds fighting over the nectar at the hummingbird feeders, bald eagles over the river and even an osprey! The only disappointment was that the advertised hot tub is no longer for renter use. Ann was delightful and responsive to our needs. We are grateful that she shared her home with us.
"The Birthday Babes" celebrated one of our group of 8's 60th with a surprise kidnapping! It exceeded everyone's expectations! Ann worked with me for a month as 7 of us plotted and planned, she even let me mail her our gift bags then took time to place them on the beds so each lady would feel special when we arrived. Can't say enough about how clean, inviting and well stocked this River house is. We meandered down the wooded Ranch Road and meet a good sized turtle, kayaked, canoed, saw an eagle glide by the dock, driving home one evening a small bear scampered across the road in front of us, we even used the multipurpose garage for a painting night. Beautiful, peaceful, perfect! Thank you to the hostess with the mostess for sharing her beautiful home!
We rented this VRBO for my sister's surprise birthday party. We all had a wonderful time and my sister was truly surprised. The house has everything you need for your stay. We had plenty room for our group with room to spare.
We enjoyed the water. We fished, kayaked and canoed. We had campfires every night and enjoyed many yard games in the vast space.
We will recommend this property to others for sure. Great job Ann!
For the last several years my family has held a "grandma"s retreat" where we get the grandkids together for a few days with grandma. Part of the thrill of the retreat is to stay at a different VRBO and explore the area. This is the first year the kids have all expressed that this house is the new standard! First, the house was exceptionally clean and well stocked. Ann has advised that she tried to make sure her visitors wouldn't have to go out if something was forgotten and she was right (and after you get there, you just don't want to leave!). There was plenty of private sleeping areas to accommodate the 10 of us. In addition to the refrigerator in the house, there was a refrigerator and freezer in the garage, and the pantry held all those extra dishes and odds and ends you could need.
Our family really enjoyed the fact that the waterfront was very private and the yard leading down to the water was big enough to accommodate the lawn games we had brought along. We were treated to a visit by a large turtle and frequent visits by various birds--we even saw a blue bird! While driving into the property we saw a mother turkey and her little ones.
Our retreat was probably the best one we have ever had and we know it was partly due to the wonderful accommodations. If our timing works out, we hope to return in 2017!

My house is located on a peaceful area of the Flambeau River. My guests enjoy the quiet setting, the balcony overlooking the river where they can watch the eagles fish, the many different colored hummingbirds, and the indescribable sunsets. The river is shallow enough for kids to wander and play but still deep enough to take the canoe or tubes out. The fishing is great also or if you'd rather, the area has gift shops, art galleries, many restaurants and alot of music in the summer. It's a great place to find peace and/or entertainment ...I personally love the quiet mornings outside, local music on Sunday afternoons and a bonfire by the river at night.
