About Jim Kerner
Born in Alabama, raised in Oklahoma and was living in New Smyrna Beach, FL. Though there are many beautiful areas, we always come back to Maggie Valley.
Jim Kerner purchased this Cabin in 2003
Why Jim Kerner chose Qualla
High enough to have spectacular views, but easy access. Right in the middle of everything we and our guests may want to do.
What makes this Cabin unique
We have it all! Convenient to all the points of interest, yet secluded and quiet. You will love the sight of red crested wood peckers, the sound of owls, and groups of wild turkeys that enjoy wondering through. That first cup of coffee on the east side of the deck, watching as the sun comes up across the Blue Ridge Parkway.

This place was so great! I loved the fenced in back yard and porch for our dogs! We had a wonderful time and Jim was awesome to work with!
Great little place!
Great place! Clean, comfortable and has great views from the deck. Everything you need to prep and make something to eat. There was no coffee! Nearest town about 20 min, Maggie Valley. Unfortunately most of the businesses were closed when we were there. I am not sure if Maggie Valley is just not touristy anymore. Waynesville was really nice, about 35-40 min drive. Went to Cherokee reservation and Bryson City. The location was very convenient to all these places. House has 2 bedrooms and 2 baths, no bathtub. One mattress was very hard and the other was softer. Internet is limited. But overall great home!
Thunderstruck is a very well kept and clean cabin. Great and tasteful decor. Very happy I didn't need to bring my own linens. Has most everything you need kitchenwise. Fantastic deck that is gated. Great hot tub and excellent place to view the stars. Has great location right off the Blue Ridge Parkway, just a turn from the Cherokee reservation border and only a few minutes to Soco Falls. Owner, Jim, was very helpful and very responsive. Location was perfect for me to get 7 of the 8 waterfalls on my list for the weekend. (Missed one on us because we were too worn out to do another :) ) BTW - don't recall mini loft in the description, but great place to plop a kid or three in sleeping bags. Thanks Jim for contributing to an utterly amazing weekend and being a part of everything going right.
Vacationing only steps away from the Blue Ridge Parkway!
Thanks so much for sharing your cabin with us. We loved everything about the cabin, especially the view. Can't wait to come back in the fall, although I think it would be enjoyable in any season. We are partial to the blue ridge parkway and within 10 minutes we could get on the parkway, stop and hike, or just stop and take pictures or have a picnic. We loved the seclusion of the cabin, the view, and all of the amenities, especially the hot tub under the stars. The cabin was just the right size, not too big, not to small, but everything was very convenient. Can't wait to return.

Cabin needs a thorough cleaning, i.e., windows, cob webs on walls, dust and debris under beds, replace grill cover and clean the grill infa-red screen immediately under the grill cooking surface. Had we not had a 4 wheel drive, driving on the dirt roads and parking area would have been a safety hazard. If I had known the cabin was pet friendly we would not have rented it. The location is in a beautiful place but access needs improvement, particularly for use during the winter and rainy season. I understand the kitchen appliances are being replaced in Feb. or March, this will be a marked improvement.
I think this is the lowest review I've ever received. Since it is important to me that folks have a great experience I try to take these reviews to heart and see where I can make some improvements.
Going over their comments it seems like they were upset that we are a pet friendly cabin and yet besides a few cobwebs and some dust bunnies under the bed they do not say why this is a problem. Yes we love dogs and this will not change and I'm sorry but I don't wash windows in the middle of winter.
Next they are concerned about the road and how it could have been a problem without 4WD, which they had, but if they didn't it would have been an issue. They had a big 4WD SUV so I don't understand what their problem was. In the summer any 2WD vehicle is fine.
And finally Yes the kitchen is currently in transition to high end granite counter tops and stainless appliances. Right now I only have a few of the items completed so some are older and some brand new. Each week between reservations I am able to move this project forward. It is not under construction just in transition so I guess their comment was in a sense a back handed compliment.
My boyfriend and I spent an amazing week in maggie valley. The cabin was the perfect distance from Maggie valley and Cherokee. It was very quiet and relaxing. The cabin itself was very clean and stocked with dishes, pans and some toiletries. The hot tub was a bouns and we enjoyed watching the subset from it. If we are ever back in the Maggie valley area we will be staying here.
