About Jim Kerner

Born in Alabama, raised in Oklahoma and was living in New Smyrna Beach, FL. Though there are many beautiful areas, we always come back to Maggie Valley.

Why Jim Kerner chose Maggie Valley

High enough to have spectacular views, but easy access. Right in the middle of everything we and our guests may want to do.

What makes this cabin unique

We have it all! Convenient to all the points of interest, yet secluded and quiet. You will love the sight of red crested wood peckers, the sound of owls, and groups of wild turkeys that enjoy wondering through. That first cup of coffee on the east side of the deck, watching as the sun comes up across the Blue Ridge Parkway.

Guestbook comments from the manager

We have had the most amazing vacation here! Your cabin is the coziest home away from home ever. It is in the perfect spot for the best views, not too close to anyone else, so you feel along in the mountains. It is so relaxing with the furnace and gas fireplace to keep you warm but big glass doors and windows to enjoy the view without freezing. Thank you so much for opening your home to us, we are truly appreciative and would like to make this a yearly venture. We had such a wonderful time.

Great Stay!

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I recently stayed in Maggie Valley at the Thunderstruck Cabin. We were very pleased with our stay and the cabin was very clean. The drive up the mountain was an easy drive and did not require a four wheel drive vehicle. The view from the hot tub was absolutely beautiful. We would consider staying again next year due to the overall experience. The only negative was the timing of the year and many of the attractions/shops in Maggie Valley were shut down until the spring.

Incredible Experience!! Comfort at a Comfy Price!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed for a long weekend for my husband's birthday (also Valentine's Day weekend) and we could not have had a more pleasurable experience. My husband and I and our three year old daughter had a wonderful time! It was mine and my daughter's first experience with snow and one we will never forget. When we arrived the first evening, it had gotten dark before we could get up the mountain and the road had begun to ice over. Mr. Jim told us where to go to in Waynesville to purchase snow chains. He then come out of his nice warm home (next door) to come down to the main road to help us get the snow chains on our vehicle so we could get up to the cabin. He made sure that we were safe and settled in for the night. I don't know that I've ever had more appreciation for such a kind-hearted soul! The cabin and views are GORGEOUS! Although the square footage isn't much, the cabin was plenty spacious for the three of us and we enjoyed dinners in. Valentine's night we grilled steaks on the gas grill provided (in immaculate condition!) The hot tub was a fun add-on for our daughter. She thought it was pretty neat to be in a hot tub with snow covering the porch! I'm writing this review as I am looking at dates for when we can return after the New Year! Thank you for such a wonderful stay!

Lovely Mountain Cabin

  • 5 of 5

We just got back from a 3 night stay in this lovely cabin. Loved the cozy mountain atmosphere of the place. Very clean with modern amenities. Listing and pics are very accurate. Beautiful views and a very private feel to the property. Road to cabin is packed gravel, but our Prius had no problems, just drive slowly. Beds were very comfortable, and cabin is well stocked with what you need. We enjoyed using the hot tub after our daily excursions and hikes. The tv, our cell, and wireless reception was good! They have Direct TV, with a good sized tv in the living room and master bedroom. Great space for a family of 4, or two couples. About a fifteen minute drive to the main shopping, entertainment, and restaurant area in Maggie Valley. About 30 minutes to Bryson City where you can ride The Great Smokey Mtn Train. Very close access to enter The Blue Mtn Parkway and short ride to a Great Smokey Mtns. Owner is responsive, but not intrusive. Wouldn't hesitate to stay here again, or recommend to family and friends!

Perfect Location and Pet Friendly!

  • 5 of 5

If you are looking for a quiet cabin that is pet friendly and close to the Blue Ridge Parkway AND Cherokee, this cabin is the right choice! We have stayed here two years in a row because this cabin can't be beat. The vistas are spectacular. I've stayed other places that said that they have great mountain views but all you saw were other cabins and parked cars. This cabin is secluded enough to have quiet time grilling and hanging out in the hot tub. The dogs have a fenced in area so that potty time isn't a production. I love that the deck has gates so that the dogs can be off leash. Highly Recommended!
