About Jim Kerner

Born in Alabama, raised in Oklahoma and was living in New Smyrna Beach, FL. Though there are many beautiful areas, we always come back to Maggie Valley.

Jim Kerner purchased this cabin in 2003

Why Jim Kerner chose Maggie Valley

High enough to have spectacular views, but easy access. Right in the middle of everything we and our guests may want to do.

What makes this cabin unique

We have it all! Convenient to all the points of interest, yet secluded and quiet. You will love the sight of red crested wood peckers, the sound of owls, and groups of wild turkeys that enjoy wondering through. That first cup of coffee on the east side of the deck, watching as the sun comes up across the Blue Ridge Parkway.

Guestbook comments from the manager

We have had the most amazing vacation here! Your cabin is the coziest home away from home ever. It is in the perfect spot for the best views, not too close to anyone else, so you feel along in the mountains. It is so relaxing with the furnace and gas fireplace to keep you warm but big glass doors and windows to enjoy the view without freezing. Thank you so much for opening your home to us, we are truly appreciative and would like to make this a yearly venture. We had such a wonderful time.

Lovely Mountain Get Away

  • 4 of 5

This was a cozy cabin ideally located between Maggie Valley in Cherokee North Carolina. One thing we would suggest to improve upon would be to have better quality towels. Or just bring your own. The hot tub just outside the second bedroom has a thermostat which goes off and on throughout the night and the sound of the motor was quite disruptive for sleeping. The living room was well appointed with a wonderful gas stove that was turned on with just the switch . We were grateful that we could take our dog and just outside the kitchen is a fenced in yard for the dog to do her business . Overall, it's a comfortable cabin, secluded, and peaceful.

Owner's Response: Things like this are easily handled with a simple heads up and I would have showed them the switch to turn the hot tub off at night. I also replace the towels as they get old and after looking them over there were a few that could be retired. All of the rest are still looking pretty good to me. Why didn't they just let me know what they needed so I could make their stay better? Instead they want to put small items into a review. Most folks just leave me a note or email me their suggestions. I didn't say a word when they had a reservation for just two people and they showed up with another couple to party with. I think the other couple ended up with the best towels and the bedroom away from the hot tub, which these folks would have enjoyed had they stuck to our agreement.

Such a great house in a perfect spot!

  • 5 of 5

When we first arrived we immediately loved the house. The log cabin smell when you walk in said "welcome to the mountains!" Each day that passed we liked it more. We used the hot tub every evening and grilled fresh corn from the lazy mare produce stand down the street. The house is close to things we love to do: spend the day in Asheville, sliding rock, and Cataloochie Ranch horseback riding was our favorite. We'd get back each evening with plenty of time to just hang out on the deck and enjoy the peace and quiet.

The house is easy to find with a driveway that is easy for anyone to navigate, which is a plus for those of us without 4wd. Love the layout with each bedroom having its own bath.

It was a really great time and we were so sad to leave. Will definitely come back! We are a bit sorry we didn't get to meet Smokey and Radar..maybe next trip.

Just a great place to stay and close to all points of interest.

  • 5 of 5

Me and my wife absolutely enjoyed our stay at the cabin. Our 3 dogs may have enjoyed the stay a little more than us. It was quite peaceful and relaxing. The cabin was fully equipped with all the convenients like you would have at home. We brought our gas fire pit and it was perfect on the deck during the cooler evenings. The owner Jim Nextdoor is very easy to get along with and will help you any way he can. When we return to the area we will definitely rent this cabin again.

Owner's Response: These guests were very nice and left the cabin in great shape. However I did not know about the 3 dogs as I was expecting only one and I would never have given my permission for a portable gas fireplace on the deck.
