About Jim Kerner

Born in Alabama, raised in Oklahoma and was living in New Smyrna Beach, FL. Though there are many beautiful areas, we always come back to Maggie Valley.

Jim Kerner purchased this cabin in 2003

Why Jim Kerner chose Cranberry Falls

High enough to have spectacular views, but easy access. Right in the middle of everything we and our guests may want to do.

What makes this cabin unique

We have it all! Convenient to all the points of interest, yet secluded and quiet. You will love the sight of red crested wood peckers, the sound of owls, and groups of wild turkeys that enjoy wondering through. That first cup of coffee on the east side of the deck, watching as the sun comes up across the Blue Ridge Parkway.

Guestbook comments from the manager

We have had the most amazing vacation here! Your cabin is the coziest home away from home ever. It is in the perfect spot for the best views, not too close to anyone else, so you feel along in the mountains. It is so relaxing with the furnace and gas fireplace to keep you warm but big glass doors and windows to enjoy the view without freezing. Thank you so much for opening your home to us, we are truly appreciative and would like to make this a yearly venture. We had such a wonderful time.

Cabin in the woods

  • 5 of 5

Great cabin in a very good location, no highway noise or other cabins to look out over. The cabin comes with everything you could possibly need, so all you need to bring is food and beverage. You couldn't ask for a better landlord, Jim who lives next door will, and did bend over backwards to help. He spent a couple hours helping me park my large truck and trailer as well as helping me unload my Jeep from said trailer.

The only thing that could improve the cabin would be the previously mentioned privacy wall by the hot tub. Even without the wall I would love to return to this cabin.

Owner's Response: Yeah I've thought about a privacy fence but it would take away part of the long valley view. I am now thinking about moving the hot tub off of the deck to a nice private spot near the steps. It would be a little longer walk to the tub but that might just be the best solution. I've had many guests just prop up the hot tub lid against the deck railing and it creates a nice private area too.

Great place to get away from it all with perfect views!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I were looking to get away from all the every day hustle of life and the Thunderstruck Cabin was the perfect place to be it's well kept with everything you need. Mornings enjoy coffee out on the deck and in the evening after a day of hiking the hot tub was an added bonus to relax in and enjoy the mountain views. We would definitely stay at the Thunderstruck Cabin again!

Absolutely beautiful!

  • 5 of 5

As soon as we got to the cabin we knew we made the RIGHT choice! The property is obviously well cared for and offers all the conveniences you are used to at home but with AMAZING VIEWS! The cabin itself is more spacious than the pictures seem and we even got to meet the owner, Smokey and Radar! My fiancé and I are already planning our next trip!

Very attractive and clean. Everything needed to stay is already there.

We loved it. We would stay there again. It is very close to the Blue Ridge Parkway, central to Maggie Valley, Cherokee, close to Gatlinburg; thought it was ideal.

Lovely Mountain Get Away

  • 4 of 5

This was a cozy cabin ideally located between Maggie Valley in Cherokee North Carolina. One thing we would suggest to improve upon would be to have better quality towels. Or just bring your own. The hot tub just outside the second bedroom has a thermostat which goes off and on throughout the night and the sound of the motor was quite disruptive for sleeping. The living room was well appointed with a wonderful gas stove that was turned on with just the switch . We were grateful that we could take our dog and just outside the kitchen is a fenced in yard for the dog to do her business . Overall, it's a comfortable cabin, secluded, and peaceful.

Owner's Response: Things like this are easily handled with a simple heads up and I would have showed them the switch to turn the hot tub off at night. I also replace the towels as they get old and after looking them over there were a few that could be retired. All of the rest are still looking pretty good to me. Why didn't they just let me know what they needed so I could make their stay better? Instead they want to put small items into a review. Most folks just leave me a note or email me their suggestions. I didn't say a word when they had a reservation for just two people and they showed up with another couple to party with. I think the other couple ended up with the best towels and the bedroom away from the hot tub, which these folks would have enjoyed had they stuck to our agreement.
