About Jim Kerner

Born in Alabama, raised in Oklahoma and was living in New Smyrna Beach, FL. Though there are many beautiful areas, we always come back to Maggie Valley.

Jim Kerner purchased this cabin in 2003

Why Jim Kerner chose Maggie Valley

High enough to have spectacular views, but easy access. Right in the middle of everything we and our guests may want to do.

What makes this cabin unique

We have it all! Convenient to all the points of interest, yet secluded and quiet. You will love the sight of red crested wood peckers, the sound of owls, and groups of wild turkeys that enjoy wondering through. That first cup of coffee on the east side of the deck, watching as the sun comes up across the Blue Ridge Parkway.

Guestbook comments from the manager

We have had the most amazing vacation here! Your cabin is the coziest home away from home ever. It is in the perfect spot for the best views, not too close to anyone else, so you feel along in the mountains. It is so relaxing with the furnace and gas fireplace to keep you warm but big glass doors and windows to enjoy the view without freezing. Thank you so much for opening your home to us, we are truly appreciative and would like to make this a yearly venture. We had such a wonderful time.

Maggie Valley Cabin Cranberry Falls

  • 4 of 5

The cabin was big enough for the both of us. Hot tub was great. Wasn't hard to get to. Road up was easy access. Nice view. Gas stove was very nice. Cabin was very clean. Bed was very comfortable. Both bathrooms had only shower stalls. No bathtub in either. Since my wife likes a tub bath, it was disappointing to her but she made due. We could not get any phone service while there on our cell phones and there was no land line phone in the cabin. We are both in our 60's and this was a concern for us. In an emergency we could not call out. There was a nice waterfall down the road not far from the cabin. Soco falls. Nice place for pictures. Overall we loved our stay in Maggie Valley at this cabin.

Owner's Response: Normally I do not respond to a 4 star review but these folks brought up a couple of concerns i thought I would expand on. They said they could not get phone service but that is only because they did not have Verizon. Verizon is the only provider that works well in the mountains and there is excellent service at the cabin if you have them. They also said they were over 60 years old so that tells me they might not even have smart phones for texting and probably have not even heard of "wifi enabled calling" where their smart phone can use our internet to make calls. It is true that both bathrooms only have showers but this is disclosed in the cabin details so it should not have been a disappointment or a surprise. Up here we have septic tanks and we drill our own wells so big tubs of water or washing your car puts undo strain on the water resources , especially with four guests.

Very nice cabin with all we needed during our stay. Loved the gas fireplace and hot tub.

My wife and I stayed here with our pooch while shopping for property. The location gave us a good sense of what we liked. Very convenient to Maggie Valley and Cherokee. Lots of cooking and serving pieces and a nice grill. Pet friendly. Will stay again if we haven't bought a place of our own.

Owner's Response: These folks were very happy but only gave us 4 stars. Why? I'm guessing the weather. Their entire stay was raining, foggy, misting and such and I do not believe they ever even got the chance to see the great view. That's the trouble with these three night visits. They go so fast.

Gorgeous views and cozy, spacious cabin

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in Jim's beautiful cabin for a Pre-Christmas ski trip Dec. 18 - 23, 2016. The mountain views are amazing from the cabin. We also enjoyed looking up at the huge star-filled sky from the hot tub on the deck every night after skiing. The beds and pillows are super comfortable and it is very quiet at night. The furnishings are very nice, and we loved sitting in front of the gas fireplace - so relaxing. All of the supplies and utensils we needed were there, including spices, sugar, salt, pepper and coffee filters, etc. We brought our dog, and she enjoyed the path into the woods from the backyard. The deck is enclosed, so we could allow her to sit outside by herself and enjoy the view.: ) The cabin was close to everything - Tube World, Cataloochie Ski area, restaurants, and a 25 minute drive to Cherokee, where we saw elk and an amazing waterfall - Mingo Falls. We will definitely be back!

Best cabin stay ever!

  • 5 of 5

The cabin in clean, quiet and just the perfect size for two adults and two dogs! The driving wasn't too bad, we arrived around the afternoon and jump straight into the hot tub, words can't describe how we feel! Jim(the cabin owner) owns two mountain worriers (?!), Smoky and Radar, our dogs get along very well with them and if you don't close the front gate, Radar will come visit you and keep you company.

We will go back very soon and will stay longer this time!

Great Stay!

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I recently stayed in Maggie Valley at the Thunderstruck Cabin. We were very pleased with our stay and the cabin was very clean. The drive up the mountain was an easy drive and did not require a four wheel drive vehicle. The view from the hot tub was absolutely beautiful. We would consider staying again next year due to the overall experience. The only negative was the timing of the year and many of the attractions/shops in Maggie Valley were shut down until the spring.
