Jerry and Linda Schmersahl bought the property for Turkey Creek Cove in 1979. They have always loved the mountains and, when they saw Turkey Creek, knew it was going to be their home. They traveled for many years all over the world but always came home to the Western North Carolina mountains. Their three dogs, Maggie, Jack, and Guinness love running and hiking with them in their own piece of heaven. They have 155 acres to hike on and enjoy.
Alecia Browning purchased this cabin in 1998
Jerry and LInda came to visit family that have lived here since the area was first settled. Jerry can trace his family back to the early 1800's. They love the great outdoors and bring their grandchildren to camp in the Smokies every summer. They are also passholders for Biltmore Estate and love to go wine tasting.
If you're looking for peace and quiet and a place to get away from the hustle and bustle of life, Turkey Creek Cove is the place to be! There are 155 mostly wooded acres that surround the heart of the property. It is so peaceful to listen to Turkey Creek trickle and flow while surrounded by nature on the front porch of the cabin or hanging out at the picnic area and fire pit. From anywhere on the property, it is so nice to relax, have a glass of Biltmore wine, and watch the sun set over the Mountains.
A most beautiful and cozy place yet not that far from civilization and home. The view from our deck and windows was spectacular. The leaves were turning and it was so peaceful and quiet you could nearly hear them when they fell. Cabin was very comfortable and the ability to get out and hike the acres of forest or just vege on the deck was literally exactly what the doctor ordered. We felt completely private and away from the every day stress at home yet having high speed internet, dish tv and unlimited land line long distance calling at our disposal gave us the opportunity to connect with the outer world if so desired. The owners were very accommodating and friendly. We couldn't recommend this place enough. Yes we hated to leave and hope to return at our earliest opportunity.
I have visited the North Carolina mountains several times and this by far is my favorite place to stay. Though being only a few miles from the highway, you wouldn't know it when you arrive at the cabin. It is so secluded and quiet that all you hear is the sound of nature. With my family in tow, it's nice to have the walking trails, fire pit and playground area to keep them occupied while we get to relax with our glass of wine. The owner's were very friendly and accommodating and even took us on a driving tour of their property. Loved the amazing views! I can't wait to go back with my husband for a romantic weekend getaway!
Absolutely the most beautiful country to experience. The cabin was very clean, great location, close to town but yet secluded in the woods. If you're looking for a great getaway, this is definitely it. Enjoyed the fire pit next to the creek, and the sunset views are one of a kind. The cabin is pet friendly which is a plus. Will definitely be back and recommend highly.
The hosts were amazing and went out of their way to make our stay wonderful. They have a WONDERFUL location, not too far from the freeway, but very secluded and if you go up to the back of the property you have a million dollar view of the mountains. Definitely recommend staying here! Was family friendly.
If you're looking for a quiet and peaceful place to stay, Turkey Creek Cabins is the place to vacation. I love nature and to be surrounded by greenery and the cabins at Turkey Creek are surrounded with the best scenery for nature lovers. Sitting on the front porch rocking chair, I could hear birds chirping and the soft flow of the creek that runs through the property. I was in heaven. The property has a beautiful red and green barn (for people who would like to bring their horses), which adds to the ambiance. There are also two beautiful, well groomed fields that people with horses can keep their horses in, if they would like. If you like to hike, which I love to do, there are also trails on the property. Furthermore, Max Patch has hiking trails, which lead to a 360-degree view of the Appalachian Mountains, including the Blue Ridge and the Smokies. It is just a 20 minute drive from Turkey Creek. If you’re interested in fresh, locally grown fruits and vegetables, Duckets is a short drive down the road. On Saturdays, you can find a homemade pie stand next door to Duckets. These half moon, cooked right on the spot, pies are delicious! Additionally, If you are a motorcyclist, the 209 Rattler is a hop, skip, and a jump from Turkey Creek Cabins. While on the Rattler, you will travel through the Pisgah National forest and over the Great Smokey Mountains. Turkey Creek is also centrally located to many attractions in Maggie Valley, Cherokee, Waynesville, Asheville, and even fun places to visit in Tennessee. The owners of Turkey Creek Cabins, Jerry and Linda, are very friendly and assisted me with any questions I had. I love the place so much that I have visited there several times in the past and I definitely plan on going back again soon. Turkey Creek Cabins is a one of kind gem and a wonderful 'get-a-way from everything' vacation spot. I would highly recommend this vacation rental to the adventure seeker and/or to the lovers of nature and relaxation.
I truly enjoyed my stay at Turkey Creek. It was so peaceful for the adults, but the children had an amazing time as well. It truly looked like a picture out of a magazine and the children loved exploring on the trails. You could hear the stream at night in your cabin and the stars were breath taking. The cabins were cozy and clean and I really felt like I had a vacation. The owners were welcoming and kind and we will definitely be going back!
