Clinton Farmhouse Rental Photos and Description

Chateau / Country House, 6 Bedrooms + Bunk Area, 3.25 Baths, (Sleeps 12+)

Be prepared for an unforgettable vacation in this historic 1917 farmhouse that's the jewel of famous Maxwelton Beach. Enjoy an evening campfire at the private beach, right across the road from the farmhouse, while viewing a gorgeous sunset backed by the Olympic Mountains. The beach is perfect for swimming, kayaking, walking and playing volleyball. Visit where it all began on Whidbey Island with the Dave Macki Park just a short walk down the quiet road. What could be more fun than a baseball diamond and playground at the beach! You are only steps away from one of Whidbey Island's most beautiful beaches.

Completely restored and refreshed, this home is light and bright with views, from almost every window, of the 65 acre farm, Useless Bay, Maxwelton Valley and cows and sheep that graze on the property and on the hillside above. All the classic farmhouse charm remains but with updated furniture and modern appliances. The house sleeps up to 12 in beds, with a few private nooks off the bedrooms for the kids (or grown-ups) to camp. These nooks are perfect for portable cribs, too! Bring your family and friends to revel in the beauty of a hilltop farmhouse that's big and roomy but still has a cozy feel. Enjoy the privacy and convenience of upper and lower units each with their own entrance, kitchen, baths and bedrooms, perfect for multiple families or for the grandparents to have their own space and quiet. Wander down to the private beach for a swim or with a book to relax or just walk the beach a mile or so to unwind. Play a rousing game of volleyball on the sand volleyball court!

A breathtaking view of Useless Bay and it's gorgeous sunsets is a perfect back drop for a memorable vacation. There is no place like this anywhere else on Whidbey Island. Come and enjoy the splendor!

About The Owner

My husband and I have lived on Whidbey Island for about 15 years. We have 3 young children who keep us very busy. My extended family has owned the Maxwelton Farmhouse and the adjoining farm since 1949. We have a small family cabin on the property. I grew up spending my summers (and any other spare time) on this property and the beach. We are so exited to share this magical property with you! There is no other place like it! Once you experience it, I'm sure you'll agree!

A family reunion for 15

  • 5 of 5

A farm house it once was, but it proved to be a three story, six bedroom, nicely modernized and maintained home on a large, grassy lot, fully equipped for a reunion of our now spread out family of three generations. Across a very quiet Maxwelton Road from the beach, with glorious sunsets and a fire pit we gathered and lingered around in to the night. A wide variety of activities are a short walk away: baseball, basketball, volleyball, a playground and, of course, walks along the beach. "Town" (Langley) is a 15 minute drive away.

We had little worry about the youngest among us, six ranging from one and a half to 12 years: the area is sparsely populated (less so on the weekends), the road is not well traveled and the very low speed limits are well respected.

The home has two laundry rooms and 2 kitchens (as well as a Weber and a gas grill, with all they require at hand). It all made for very comfortable living and was perfect for us. We all hope for a repeat, soon.

Lovely old farm house

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at this lovely home the 4th of July weekend. We had a wonderful time in this well equipped home. It had old time charm but all the the modern conveniences. I would recommend this charming home to all my friends and family. The private beach was a plus to our stay and, the sheep were a delight, our grandchildren loved them.

Great vacation spot

  • 4 of 5

Our family enjoyed our weekend getaway. The location was great, beach access was convenient. The accommodations were attractive, welcoming, and comfortable. We were Impressed with the supplies provided, right down to the bandages for those little accidents. I highly recommend this property.

Family of Bride

  • 5 of 5

We had the farmhouse for 4 days in July 2915 for our daughters wedding at Fireseed Catering. Location to venue was perfect. House was much nicer than the pictures show. We had large groups, as all the bridesmaids and groomsmen came to play on our private beach, volleyball and other games. Big enough patio to seat them all and the kitchen worked great for cooking for everyone. We all had each a bedroom, children loved their own "private" rooms to sleep and play in upstairs. I hope we have a reason to return to Whidbey Island and stay here again. We hung out at the farmhouse more than we thought we would because it was perfect in every way for our needs.

Absolutely lovely and cozy winter getaway

  • 4 of 5

Our family of 10 spent a long weekend at the Maxwelton Farm Guest House over the New Year. It was a super cold weekend and although it took a bit for the in-floor radiant heating to warm up our cold bones, what a dream to wake up to and make the pot of coffee each morning. Warm floors, cozy rooms very beautifully decorated. It is so hard for us (2 parents and 4 adult daughters with their SOs) to find a home with 5 bedrooms that are equivalent so no one feels cheated out of a dreamy night sleep. But in this guest house, Sonja has created an absolutely lovely feel for each and every room so that everyone feels they got their favorite room. Actually there were 6 bedrooms and even the one not chosen really should have been since it was really cozy too.

Sonja provided all the amenities we could have imagined needing, plus more. A real treat is that she appears to have kept "leftover" supplies from prior renters so we didn't want for any toiletries, spices, coffee, filters, etc..nothing was missing that we needed in a pinch. During our stay, we cooked homemade pizzas, then split pea soup with the leftover ham from Christmas, and even home baked bread. We put together a puzzle, or tried to :) that was there at the farmhouse, whiling away the time by the fireplace with a warm fire going nearly the whole stay. Our next oldest daughter and her husband are moving to Germany for 3 years, in 2 more weeks so this was a very special time for us to enjoy one last bit of solid time together before they ship out.

Oh, almost forgot to mention that Saturday afternoon we went to double bluff beach and took a very very long walk along the really interesting and well visited beach. By the end of the weekend, for the first time in a very long time, we all wanted just one more day....

Thank you Sonja for a wonderful stay and if you'll have us again next year, we'd love to come back for this annual holiday get together with all of our kids as they come back home from their various homes in other states/countries.

PS: The only reason we didn't give it a solid 5 rating is really nothing big. As i said it was a very cold weekend (in the teens) and the downstairs master bedroom was super super cold but we survived under the warm comforters. But it would be very useful if Sonja left a safe but effective space heater for guests staying in that room over cold times of the year.

Owner's Response: Thank you for the lovely review. Immediately after your stay, I had the heating system looked at and apparently it was needing some maintenance. So sorry for the cold floors!

Perfect home for Bridal Party

  • 4 of 5

I booked this home for my friends and I who were all part of a bridal party (and our +1s!) over a weekend on Whidbey. The house was easy to get to from the ferry, close to the beach (where one of us clammed his heart out), and had everything we needed: space to cook, privacy, and room for all. Everyone who stopped by during the wedding weekend to say hello/bring stuff over/help us with the wedding was very impressed with our find. Finding houses of this size and condition on Whidbey seemed rare.

The one thing I would recommend to the owners is to strengthen the wifi downstairs (then again, I am a New Yorker who finds herself constantly being needed to plug in, but I have a feeling anyone who stays in the downstairs part may find themselves wanting to relax via the aid of the internet every now and then!), and to have a slightly bigger table upstairs. If you have 15 people in a house, the table in the dining room that seats 8 is a bit of a struggle. That being said, we were able to take the table from the eat-in area and everything was fine (which I suppose is the plan of the owner all along!).

Thank you Sonja, for making the booking process so easy and for providing us with everything we needed!

Owner's Response: Thanks for the great review and I'm so glad everyone had a good time! Ironic you mentioned the table. Getting a larger table (that can seat 12+) is actually one of my priorities this year. And yes, it is my intention that the smaller kitchen table be moved into the dining area if necessary.
