Taos Ski Valley Condo Rental Photos and Description

2 Bedrooms + Huge Loft, 2 Baths, Sleeps 10-12, Mountain Views, Walk to Ski Lifts

This is the #1 Rated VRBO in Taos Ski Valley! Situated at over 10,000ft and just a short walk from the base of Chairlift 4, the Alpenglow Chalet is waiting to become your family's favorite getaway. One of the newest accommodations in Taos Ski Valley, this vacation property offers *unmatched* views of Kachina Peak and the Sangre de Cristo mountains surrounding the ski area. Thanks to it's height in the valley, sunrise and sunset paints a special glow on the mountains, hence the name 'Alpenglow Chalet'.

This property has all the extra touches to make your vacation memorable. Downstairs it has two bedrooms and two bathrooms, plus plenty of storage for your outdoor gear. Heated tile floors take the edge off the brisk mountain temperatures and the fireplace in the middle of the floor-to-ceiling windows is the perfect setting for a night of stories, cards, and laughs. Also, enjoy the large, flat screen TV above the fire for movies or satellite TV. The kitchen is open and has plenty of counter space for cooking big meals for the large groups that fill our condo. Upstairs, you'll find comfortable couches, a TV for DVDs, and dozens of movies and board games- it's perfect for the kids or young adults. Additionally, there is one queen, one standard, and three twin bunks in this spacious loft area.

If you don't feel like cooking, you're in luck! The highly-acclaimed Bavarian Restaurant is our neighbor. You will find delicious homemade German meals and the finest imported beers served in a beautiful and rustic Bavarian lodge. No need to drive, it's just down the trail!

In the summer, the Alpenglow Chalet is the perfect headquarters for all your outdoor adventures. Adjacent trails lead into protected Wilderness Areas and onto the picturesque Williams Lake. Towering above the condo is Wheeler Peak, the highest peak in New Mexico, and a great place to hike. We also neighbor 'Northside', a collection of mountain bike and hiking trails for all skill levels.

During the winter, a short 5 minute walk takes you to the base of the Kachina lift, where you can skip the crowds by putting on your skis or snowboard starting your day on the fresh backside snow! The easy access to and from the condo means you can have a hot lunch in the well stocked kitchen, or sit on the deck and watch your family and friends ski the Kachina bowl and trails.

Roads are well maintained in the summer and plowed in the winter, however chains (available w/ most car rentals) or a 4x4/AWD is strongly recommended in the winter.

About Rob & Lesan Marshall

We met serving in the Air Force. Mark & Heather were married while stationed in England, where they shared a mutual friend, Rob. The three of us have traveled the world together and shared many amazing memories. Mark and Rob still serve in the Air Force and climb mountains together in a charity program. Mark and Heather have three kids that are quickly growing up to be amazing skiers and rock climbers. Rob recently married a beautiful woman from Amarillo, TX, Lesan, who loves skiing and hiking with their mountain-dog Callie.

Rob & Lesan Marshall purchased this condo in 2007

Why Rob & Lesan Marshall chose New Mexico

We LOVE the mountains and that is why we bought this property. It is perfect for our families and we hope you are able to experience the stunning sunsets and unbeatable views. Each morning we wake up in the condo puts a huge smile on our faces! Give it a try- we're willing to bet you'll love it too.

Since we are moving all over the nation/world, we wanted a place we could always meet at and call 'home' together. So, while stationed in Albuquerque, we purchased this beautiful property! Now stationed elsewhere in the nation, we still meet up there at least 2-3 times a year in order to share more good times in the mountains and keep involved in our friends' and families' lives.

What makes this condo unique

WE HAVE A HEATED SINGLE GARAGE WITH SKI/SNOWBOARD RACKS FOR GUEST USE! Plus, we love how close it is to Chairlift 4 AND the Bavarian. It gives us time to have a leisurely breakfast before walking w/ the kids to the chair lift area. Plus, having a beer at the Bavarian is nice b/c we can just walk back to the condo and not ever worry about driving our entire vacation (once we reach the condo, of course).

In the summer we like to enjoy our coffee on the deck, then head out for a hike along the creek (just a stones throw away) or get our discs out for the free frisbee golf course.

At night we love to cook large meals and feed big crowds of friends and family, then gather around the fireplace for card games that last late into the night.

If it's winter, we make sure to go out for at least one night of moon-lit skiing in the backcountry above Lake Williams. It's a magical experience. (But we don't recommend it unless you are an expert in backcountry travel)

Best Basecamp Ever!

  • 5 of 5

I've stayed in the summer and winter, and this place is perfect for accessing TSV! In addition to being in an awesome location to see the mountains and access the trails, this place has nice little touches that show the owners' desire to share their home and love for outdoor adventure. In addition to the classic winter sports equipment and beautiful photos on the wall, there is stockpile of ski DVDs and guidebooks for climbing and hiking in the area to get you pumped and ready for anything in the Enchanted Circle area! The board games and fireplace make for great relaxation in the evening. The condo had a wonderful and clean kitchen with some basic staples (oil, salt, pepper, etc) and an abundance of dishes and different types of kitchen equipment to prepare a feast. The owners were great, easy to reach, and attentive. The only disappointment with my recent visit was the nearby El Salto waterfalls were only a trickle (it was August though). I look forward to future visits!

Great experience.

  • 4 of 5

The facilities were clean and comfortable. There was lots of room and my kids really liked the loft. They were quite and private from us. The view was of the beautiful ski mountain and was walking distance. My only complaint was the king bed in the master was very hard. Otherwise it was good.

Fantastic location!

  • 5 of 5

The condo was perfect size for our family of seven plus the dog. The three teen/young adults enjoyed the loft area while my husband and I stayed in the master bedroom, and the grandparents in the second bedroom. The condo had almost everything one could need! The only thing I would have liked was a screen on the loft window. Being from Texas we wanted to enjoy the cool air but I didn't want to let the bugs in so we didn't open the window. It was quite warm up stairs but other than that it was a great place. The views were spectacular! It was so quiet and peaceful sitting on the deck I didn't want to leave. Since it was summer, it was hard to find restaurants nearby that were open after 6 pm. We got to the condo in the early evening hoping to eat at the Bavarian but it was closed already. Thank goodness we brought pizzas. We did stumble upon the Stray Dog in the ski village the next night which was perfect and we did enjoy a lunch at the Bavarian the third day. The trail to Williams Lake was just up the road and very convenient. The best part was when we finished the hike in the early afternoon, we headed straight to the Bavarian which was only steps away and rewarded ourselves with a cold beer! Overall it was a great vacation and we would definitely stay here again.

Owner's Response: Patricia- Thank you for the report on your stay at our mountain getaway! It sounds like you had a mixed group of kids, parents, and grandparents-- just the sort of family gathering we love to have in Taos. Next time you stay with us- let the window open up and cool things off, there aren't many bugs at 10,200ft. But we'll keep your feedback in mind and look to get a screen for the loft window! You scored with our two favorite dining spots: the Stray Dog and the Bavarian-- nice work. It's hard to beat a hike that ends with lunch and a beer in a German alpine setting!! Come back again soon- our returning guests get a discount and we'd love to hear about other adventures you have in the Ski Valley. --Rob

Perfect ski valley property!

  • 5 of 5

This place is magical. The condo is on the top floor of the building with tall windows which take in sweeping views of Wheeler Peak. The condo itself is wonderfully comfortable and well equipped. You just can't compel yourself to move from the deck where we had drinks, coffee in the morning and did some grilling. The location is within walking distance to the Bavarian restaurant. You walk in and swear you have been transported to Austria or Switzerland. We had dinner there one night and even stopped in for a beer after our hike one day. The location is also near the trailhead to Williams Lake--a WONDERFUL hike to a picturesque lake and waterfall. We were here in summer as you can tell from the description but I imagine fall would be gorgeous and winter perfect for a ski trip with the Kachina lift in very short proximity. It was quiet and just lovely. Rob was quick to reply when we couldn't find the place and was so welcoming and helpful. I can't wait to return.

Owner's Response: Blake- Thanks for the feedback. We're pumped you had such a great stay. Summer in the Ski Valley is an awesome way to beat the heat and relax in the mountains. I wish we were there right now. Come back in the winter and see how nice it is to walk to the ski lift, ride until you're tired, end the afternoon with a beer at the Bavarian, and then cook a big family meal in the property. Returning guests always receive a discount! Cheers- Rob

This wonderful property is surrounded on all sides by mountains and pristine forest. Hike 1hr to Williams Lake. Go another hour or two up and reach New Mexico's highest point, the top of Wheeler Peak at over 13,000ft. Frisbee Golf, Mountaineering, Trail Running, Relaxing, and Mountain Biking abound in the summer. In the winter, well, it's all about SKIING and SNOWBOARDING on Taos Ski Valley's famous slopes that are waiting for you right outside the window! Want to leave your car and do some walking? The Bavarian Restaurant/Lodge is just a 5min walk through the forest. Try their house-made German food and top quality imported German beers. Listen to live music (both summer and winter) outside on their porch. There is plenty to do here, whether you want to be active in the outdoors or just relax inside while enjoying truly phenomenal views.
