Taos Ski Valley Condo Rental Photos and Description

2 Bedrooms + Huge Loft, 2 Baths, Sleeps 10-12, Mountain Views, Walk to Ski Lifts

This is the #1 Rated VRBO in Taos Ski Valley! Situated at over 10,000ft and just a short walk from the base of Chairlift 4, the Alpenglow Chalet is waiting to become your family's favorite getaway. One of the newest accommodations in Taos Ski Valley, this vacation property offers *unmatched* views of Kachina Peak and the Sangre de Cristo mountains surrounding the ski area. Thanks to it's height in the valley, sunrise and sunset paints a special glow on the mountains, hence the name 'Alpenglow Chalet'.

This property has all the extra touches to make your vacation memorable. Downstairs it has two bedrooms and two bathrooms, plus plenty of storage for your outdoor gear. Heated tile floors take the edge off the brisk mountain temperatures and the fireplace in the middle of the floor-to-ceiling windows is the perfect setting for a night of stories, cards, and laughs. Also, enjoy the large, flat screen TV above the fire for movies or satellite TV. The kitchen is open and has plenty of counter space for cooking big meals for the large groups that fill our condo. Upstairs, you'll find comfortable couches, a TV for DVDs, and dozens of movies and board games- it's perfect for the kids or young adults. Additionally, there is one queen, one standard, and three twin bunks in this spacious loft area.

If you don't feel like cooking, you're in luck! The highly-acclaimed Bavarian Restaurant is our neighbor. You will find delicious homemade German meals and the finest imported beers served in a beautiful and rustic Bavarian lodge. No need to drive, it's just down the trail!

In the summer, the Alpenglow Chalet is the perfect headquarters for all your outdoor adventures. Adjacent trails lead into protected Wilderness Areas and onto the picturesque Williams Lake. Towering above the condo is Wheeler Peak, the highest peak in New Mexico, and a great place to hike. We also neighbor 'Northside', a collection of mountain bike and hiking trails for all skill levels.

During the winter, a short 5 minute walk takes you to the base of the Kachina lift, where you can skip the crowds by putting on your skis or snowboard starting your day on the fresh backside snow! The easy access to and from the condo means you can have a hot lunch in the well stocked kitchen, or sit on the deck and watch your family and friends ski the Kachina bowl and trails.

Roads are well maintained in the summer and plowed in the winter, however chains (available w/ most car rentals) or a 4x4/AWD is strongly recommended in the winter.

About Rob & Lesan Marshall

We met serving in the Air Force. Mark & Heather were married while stationed in England, where they shared a mutual friend, Rob. The three of us have traveled the world together and shared many amazing memories. Mark and Rob still serve in the Air Force and climb mountains together in a charity program. Mark and Heather have three kids that are quickly growing up to be amazing skiers and rock climbers. Rob recently married a beautiful woman from Amarillo, TX, Lesan, who loves skiing and hiking with their mountain-dog Callie.

Rob & Lesan Marshall purchased this condo in 2007

Why Rob & Lesan Marshall chose Taos Ski Valley

We LOVE the mountains and that is why we bought this property. It is perfect for our families and we hope you are able to experience the stunning sunsets and unbeatable views. Each morning we wake up in the condo puts a huge smile on our faces! Give it a try- we're willing to bet you'll love it too.

Since we are moving all over the nation/world, we wanted a place we could always meet at and call 'home' together. So, while stationed in Albuquerque, we purchased this beautiful property! Now stationed elsewhere in the nation, we still meet up there at least 2-3 times a year in order to share more good times in the mountains and keep involved in our friends' and families' lives.

What makes this condo unique

WE HAVE A HEATED SINGLE GARAGE WITH SKI/SNOWBOARD RACKS FOR GUEST USE! Plus, we love how close it is to Chairlift 4 AND the Bavarian. It gives us time to have a leisurely breakfast before walking w/ the kids to the chair lift area. Plus, having a beer at the Bavarian is nice b/c we can just walk back to the condo and not ever worry about driving our entire vacation (once we reach the condo, of course).

In the summer we like to enjoy our coffee on the deck, then head out for a hike along the creek (just a stones throw away) or get our discs out for the free frisbee golf course.

At night we love to cook large meals and feed big crowds of friends and family, then gather around the fireplace for card games that last late into the night.

If it's winter, we make sure to go out for at least one night of moon-lit skiing in the backcountry above Lake Williams. It's a magical experience. (But we don't recommend it unless you are an expert in backcountry travel)

Fantastic location!

  • 5 of 5

The condo was perfect size for our family of seven plus the dog. The three teen/young adults enjoyed the loft area while my husband and I stayed in the master bedroom, and the grandparents in the second bedroom. The condo had almost everything one could need! The only thing I would have liked was a screen on the loft window. Being from Texas we wanted to enjoy the cool air but I didn't want to let the bugs in so we didn't open the window. It was quite warm up stairs but other than that it was a great place. The views were spectacular! It was so quiet and peaceful sitting on the deck I didn't want to leave. Since it was summer, it was hard to find restaurants nearby that were open after 6 pm. We got to the condo in the early evening hoping to eat at the Bavarian but it was closed already. Thank goodness we brought pizzas. We did stumble upon the Stray Dog in the ski village the next night which was perfect and we did enjoy a lunch at the Bavarian the third day. The trail to Williams Lake was just up the road and very convenient. The best part was when we finished the hike in the early afternoon, we headed straight to the Bavarian which was only steps away and rewarded ourselves with a cold beer! Overall it was a great vacation and we would definitely stay here again.

Perfect ski valley property!

  • 5 of 5

This place is magical. The condo is on the top floor of the building with tall windows which take in sweeping views of Wheeler Peak. The condo itself is wonderfully comfortable and well equipped. You just can't compel yourself to move from the deck where we had drinks, coffee in the morning and did some grilling. The location is within walking distance to the Bavarian restaurant. You walk in and swear you have been transported to Austria or Switzerland. We had dinner there one night and even stopped in for a beer after our hike one day. The location is also near the trailhead to Williams Lake--a WONDERFUL hike to a picturesque lake and waterfall. We were here in summer as you can tell from the description but I imagine fall would be gorgeous and winter perfect for a ski trip with the Kachina lift in very short proximity. It was quiet and just lovely. Rob was quick to reply when we couldn't find the place and was so welcoming and helpful. I can't wait to return.

Great location for hikes to Williams Lake and Wheeler Peak

  • 5 of 5

If you can handle the 36 steps up the stairs of this beautiful condo, you will be rewarded with the great views promised in the promos of VRBO. The Seven of us ranging in age from early 40's to early 70's all found the sleeping arrangements that suited us, and the living room, dining and kitchen area provided a great setting to enjoy the views and engage in world solving discussions. The first full day after our arrival we walked to Williams Lake, had an enjoyable lunch at the lake and then returned to the Bavarian for a cold beer before returning to the condo. The next day we conquered Wheeler Peak 13,161 ft. It was an exhausting day hike, but well worth the experience. It was especially nice to be so close to the trail head at the end of that hike. The shower and happy hour on the deck afterward was especially nice. It was a great four days and we will return again.

Owner's Response: Haha- Ron, lots of people like to count the number of steps, since your lungs are working hard walking up them at 10,200ft! We've been there before ourselves. We're real happy to hear that some 'world solving conversations' were had in the large living space. It puts a smile on our faces, since it's those sort of experiences that make mountain living so powerful. It's not hard to feel buoyant and positive after a day hiking Wheeler and celebrating with a Bavarian stein of beer! We're looking forward to hearing about the great discussion you have during your next visit to the Alpenglow. Talk to you then!! --Rob

Great place with an AMAZING view! Will not hesitate to book this place again!!

  • 5 of 5

We booked this place for our 1st family ski trip with another family. Total of 4 Adults 5 Kids (ages 14, 14, 13, 9, 8). I have ski/snowboarded many times. My wife has ski'd about 4 times and the other Mom/Dad had not ski'd in 20+years. I personally loved the mountain and strictly snowboarded this trip. Rode all open lifts (not kachina) on blues and greens multiple times over 4 days. Fun runs and some decent snow for spring skiing... We put the kids in ski school for 1.5 days and they did great. Staff was friendly and helpful!! They all rode strawberry hill and the pioneer run comfortably for 4 days and had a blast. The other 3 adults did a "yellow bird" ski school for a refresher course day 1 and it helped them quite a bit. On day 4 my wife and I took the older 3 kids up lift#1 for the green run white feather. They did ok but honestly there are a few sections on that green run that rival blues on other mountains. We were only able to get 2 of them to go back up a second time. The condo is right by lift#4 and that is a fun area too. Patio of the Bavarian is nice! We ate dinner there twice. First night at Bavarian was Tues "Fondue night". Service and food was good but expensive (like $500). Thursday we ate dinner there again with just adults and food/beer/wine was delicious and worth the money. Condo was roomy and clean. Heated floors and fireplace was nice. 2nd story loft perfect for 5 kids. Owners and Dom (property manager) were awesome and quick to respond to any questions I had prior to traveling & during stay. Overall it was perfect! Main thing you really need to strongly consider is your vehicle to get up there. We went March 6-11, 2016 (sun-sat). Road is steep and a combination of rock/mud (mostly rock). We didn't get much snow or rain so was relatively easy up and down. I have 4wd Suburban and the other family had 2wd Jeep Cherokee. We both made it up and down all week without issue but the 1st time up, our navigation took us on some crazy switchback. The condo is on the 3rd floor with access to garage for vehicle & ski equipment storage. We drove in from Dallas and stayed in Amarillo 1 night to break up initial road trip then drove straight through on way home (12 hours). Check out the patio closest to Lift#1 at base. Happy Hour 3pm-5pm! Lots of construction around base of mountain for new hotel. That all being said, i'm not 100% sure if it was the best choice for a group of 1st time skiers but we still had an awesome trip!!!

Owner's Response: Kyle- Thanks for telling us about your awesome vacation. It sounds like you all had quite the full/rewarding trip! Good move putting the kids in the Ernie Blake Ski School- they are one of the best rated schools in N. America and all our friends love sending their kids there. You guys are lucky that you were able to experience Fondue Night at the Bav. It isn't cheap, but neither is the food or the experience. We've only been able to do it once and it's a memory Lesan and I look back on fondly (hahah... fondly fondue?!). The patio you enjoyed near lift one is "Rhoda's", part of the main lodge. They have the best Bloody Mary's on the mountain. We're proud of you guys for braving Taos with first time skiers. The beginner runs are certainly easy enough for anyone, but it sounds like ya'll adventured further up the mountain and made it down in once piece. That's a family memory you'll keep smiling at for a long time. Come back and see if you can't get the kids up lift #2- the green runs back to the Bavarian from there are easier than Whitefeather! Plus, you can see the condo and the Bav below you- like a beacon calling you home. Cheers, Rob M
