Point Lookout House Rental Photos and Description

House, 3 Bedrooms + Other (See Description), 2 Baths, (Sleeps 6-7)

Chesabelle is our Belle of the Bay. This fully renovated beach house is stylishly appointed with stunning views across a small estuary into the Bay. The house features an open floor plan for easy entertaining. See diverse wildlife including, herons, swans, ospreys, bald eagles, and pelicans as you cook, read, or relax on the screened-in porch. Or, grab a beach chair or towel and head for the private sandy beach just steps away. Kayak or bicycle - the world is your oyster here.

Back in the house, the open floor plan, complete with a well-equipped kitchen, dining room, and sitting room with TV and porch + deck allows a family or group to be together whether cooking, playing games, watching television or just relaxing. The wood burning stove makes winter days at Chesabelle as enticing as summer days. Enjoy a weekend wine tasting at nearby Woodlawn plantation - Slack wine dot com.

A short bike ride away is Point Lookout State Park, a Civil War site. Today the park, which is located on the point where the Chesapeake Bay and the Potomac River meet, hosts miles of protected land set aside for biking, kayaking, boating, fishing, camping or enjoying nature as well as a museum that provides a historical perspective on the region. Or charter a boat at one of many local marinas for a day of fishing on the Bay. Another nearby historical site is St. Mary's City (10 miles), the original capital of Maryland.

Visitors are 25 minutes from dining and shopping on Solomon's Island or in historic Leonardtown. Or enjoy one of several local marina restaurants. Want a day trip away? All that the nation's capital has to offer is a short 80 miles away.

Collect shells and beach glass while walking uninterrupted for miles along the sandy beach. Unlike typical cheek-by-jowl beach houses, Chesabelle offers its visitors direct Bay views while nestled on a 1/2 acre of land. Enjoy rare, unimpeded waterview privacy and access so close to major cities and amenities.

Keywords: Totally renovated; open floor plan; sweeping views across Bay; chic beach style

Aside from the well pump going mid-week, we had a wonderful stay. We were able to call property maintenance, and they came out immediately. You can't predict these things!

We stopped down at the beach our first day there only to find that jellyfish had infested our beach. This is fairly common during the warmer summer months on the Chesapeake. Luckily, we had the currents on our side. By Tuesday, the jellyfish had moved elsewhere. We never saw any more the rest of the week. The water was good and warm. The kayaks were a nice bonus! We also managed to stop down to Point Lookout State Park during the week; the beach there is amazing! A must see.

The house itself was great; it comes stocked with all the essentials. However, if you wish to watch movies, be sure to bring down your own DVD player. I was pleasantly surprised at how few bugs we encountered around the house too, considering how close we were to the lagoon across the street. The big yard was great for outdoor activities.

All in all, we really enjoyed ourselves. We typically stay in Calvert County or venture further south to Virginia, but you won't be disappointed staying in St. Mary's County. If you want to get away from the hustle and bustle, this is the place for you. Be prepared to travel for groceries! And definitely make your way down to the beach at night, the stars are incredible!

Great place for a family get away

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our little 4 night getaway with our family (4 adults, 3 kids). We biked, swam, fished, crabbed and kayaked everyday. We had the beach to ourselves most days. The house is great. It had everything we needed, but we have one little suggestion - it would be great if the house had a small vacuum, to help keep up with sand, crumbs from the kids, and dog fur. In any case, we'll book again for sure.

Welcome peace and quiet

  • 5 of 5

I love Chesabelle and love Scotland. The home is a tasteful, welcoming cottage with pretty views all around and an open airy feeling. It is stocked with everything you need to enjoy your stay. Scotland is an excellent getaway with lots of opportunities for recreation but little in the way of commerce. So it's great to come here with the family and shift gears. Note Chesabelle is not right on the bay - you have to cross Lake Drive and walk along a short path to get there. For extended family get togethers, it would be perfect to rent one of the on- beach properties and Chesabelle so you could have family time on the beach, but still have your own space. Hope to be back soon.

Lovely place for a multigenerational getaway

  • 5 of 5

We rented the Chesabelle for a weekend celebration of my mother's 85th birthday, and it suited us perfectly! As all the other reviews say, this place is in a beautiful settling just across from the Chesapeake Bay, and the house is stylishly decorated (interesting art!) & very clean. It is not advertised as handicapped-accessible, but for those who do not use wheelchairs, should be accessible enough. My mom uses a cane, but the 2 or so steps up into the house were no problem for her. Everything within the house is on a single level. There's a walk-in shower (we have a fold-up shower bench); the commodes are standard, but posed no problems. The place looks small as you drive up, but actually there is a lot of room. Our group consisted of my husband & me, our adult daughter, and my mother. We definitely want to return, adding to the group my son, daughter-in-law, their toddler daughter and dog. Even though it was stormy during our stay, the power of the waves crashing on the shore was mesmerizing, and we truly enjoyed it.

Peace and Tranquility with a Beautiful Waterview

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed at Chesabelle for 4 shoulder-season days/nights. We were looking for something modern, clean, out of the way, with a view. Chesabelle exceeded our expectations!

I love to cook, even on vacation, and appreciated the very-well appointed kitchen. (Remember to stop at near-by Buzzy's Country Store on your way in, and pick up a few bags of ice. I'm also glad I brought some spare ice cube trays, to keep the cocktails and coolers happy.) All the appliances worked well. The bathrooms were also well stocked, with toiletries, and plus towel sets. I tried the big soaking tub, but the curse of tall girls made that a one-time experience. The lengthy window seat made a great lounge-read-nap spot. Wifi was speedy, furniture comfy.

I loved being able to walk/bike over to the beach across the street, and took out a kayak everytime the tides and chop allowed. I sat on the beach a few afternoons, but the big bitey flies worked themselves into a rage as soon as the temperature got up to about 85. We did have bug spray, expecting mosquitoes, but the comfy screened porch made that mostly unnecessary.

A few treats from Mother nature - one evening a big frog was plastered onto the kitchen window, and we saw quite a few Eastern Box Turtles ambling down the road. Both sunrise and sunset, looking eastward, were a show of colors twice every single day. Who needs to look west when the sky is pink, orange, and lavender, and the water silvery-gold with bands of bright turquoise! Stars - how could I not mention the stars? I woke up about 3am each morning (for the reason all people of a certain age do) and was happy to stay awake star-gazing. I haven't seen stars like that since I was in Yellowstone; the plentiful chairs on the front deck were easily toted out to the front courtyard for a view out from under the tree canopy.

I live in a high-density, noisy, high-traffic suburb just outside of DC, and the stunning quiet of the remote Scotland area was a joy. I visited Point Lookout State Park early one morning, the Confederate Memorial Park on the way out, and we had lunch out on our last day at Courtney's, about 15 minutes away, on the Potomac. (see separate review.) Other than that, we just didn't want to leave "our" gorgeous waterfront retreat. Will certainly return in the future!
