Self Catering Barn

An independent barn approximately 200m2, within the grounds, has just been renovated to a very high standard and is available as a spacious self catering holiday home. It comprises of 3 double bedrooms, two separate shower rooms,very large cosy living room, luxury granite finished kitchen dining room for those who love to cook and a large covered veranda with views of the Pyrenées all very romantic and breath taking. Full use of swimming pool for those who like to laze and tan set in a wonderful mature garden.

Cycling (Road & MTB): The Hautes Pyrenees region of France has a superb network of minor roads and minimal traffic outside the towns and off the major routes. The range of landscapes is immense from leafy and domestic to glacier topped high mountains. The routes that you will have access to from La Joie de Vivre are unashamedly rural,fantastic for all cyclis with the Tour very near as are all the Col's to cycle

Walking: Walking in the stunning mountain scenery of the French Pyrenees can be accessed easily from La Joie de Vivre, with the highlights being glacial lakes and waterfalls, peaks and high ridges and many varied flowers and wildlife with some extremely pretty villages known as 'bastides' nestled amongst the mountains. Several of the most beautiful walks are found within the Parc National des Pyrenees

Great place for a family hoiliday

We had one of the best ever family holidays at La Joie de Vivre this year in August. We were with all the family including three grandchildren. The combination of space and peace were just what was needed as a retreat from the world. The swimming pool was a centre of activity but together with frisbee, football, cricket, boule and table tennis we were never still for long. The house is situated in a most accessible part of the country and the mountains were beautiful.

Rob and Liz were excellent hosts. So thank you for everything.

A really relaxing and wonderful place to stay.

Our family had a really wonderful 2 week stay at La Joie de Vivre, We stayed in the converted barn which was spacious, clean and well supplied for our needs. The grounds of the estate are well kept and spacious giving our children plenty of space to run around and have fun. The pool was also clean and well maintained and the bikes available were of a good quality.

The owners of the property were really great, helping direct our local travels as required and were excellent hosts.

Overall - highly recommended and very good value for money.

Fantastic family holiday!

Our family of four spent a glorious week in the barn at La Joie de Vivre in August. The barn has been lovingly converted to a high standard with great attention to detail (e.g. power showers, robes in the bathroom, well stocked kitchen). The property is ideal for an active family with school aged children - whether swimming in the private pool, playing ping pong or badminton in the huge garden, hiking and cycling in the immediate area, or playing tennis in the neighbouring village. In the evening, we alternated between cooking in the huge kitchen and eating al fresco after a barbeque. For the cycling enthusiast, there are some outstanding rides; my husband enjoyed summiting the Col de Tourmalet of Tour de France fame. Our trip was made special by the owners Liz and Rob who are outstanding hosts – warm and generous with their time, wine and local produce. They take much interest that their guests (irrespective of age) are happy and well cared for. Thank you for a truly wonderful and memorable holiday!

La Joie de Vivre

This is a pretty, welcoming house in a rural area, at which our party of six adults stayed for four nights. The accomodation was clean and is of good quality, although two of the bedrooms in the annexe are significantly smaller than the principal bedroom. The annexe kitchen is large and well-equipped and there is a very big, light games and tv room, with lots of seating, upstairs. The garden is well-tended and the pool clearly new and properly maintained, although unheated. Our hosts managed to be both discreet and welcoming, and were most helpful throughout our stay.

In Gers there is no better place to stay

We stayed in the "Barn" and where surprised by the space and all the modern utensils and conveniences. Liz had even stocked the fridge for us with old wine, beer, meat and cheeses with lovely fresh bread As South Africans we like to "braai" (barbecue ) with wood and Rob obliged by having bought a suitable braai for us to cook on. What wonderful hosts Rob and Liz are and we shared a truly wonderful (long)Sunday lunch with them at their favorite local family cafe. It was one of the highlights of our French sojourn. If you like beauty and space and like to cook with the wonderful local ingredients in modern surrounds, look no further. Not only will you have a wonderful time but you will walk away having made new friends. We look forward to hosting Rob and Liz in Cape Town in the near future.

Perfect Pyrenees

Our family of six, ranging from older children to grandparents all thoroughly enjoyed this wonderful property. Superbly equipped, very well kept, and extremely comfortable. The barn, grounds and pool were a delight. Very relaxing, quiet, peaceful and beautiful. Hosts Liz and Rob were most warm, hospitable and kind; providing lots of sound local knowledge and advice as well as gifts of delicious plums and fresh farm eggs. They couldn't have ben more welcoming and helpful yet gave us plenty of space and privacy. We very much look forward to returning!

We very much enjoyed touring the area, especially the mountains and can recommend touring stunning natural sights such as the cirque de Gavarnie, the Pic du Midi (amazing cable car ride) and the cascades at Pont d'Espagne. Local villages and towns are charming too. Lots of places for outdoor activities; cycling, hiking, wild water sports, parapenting, via ferrata, high wire courses, etc. Summer flora and fauna amazing, especially alpine flowers and huge birds of prey.

A fantastic property in a super area with terrific hosts. We'll be back!
