House, 2 Bedrooms, 1 Baths, (sleep up to 10)

This Lake front Property in located at the end of Justa Rd. and surrounded by natures beauty. There is plenty to do or simply relax and enjoy the beauty that Vermont has to offer. This home is one of Three houses on this side of the Lake and has steps that lead down to the Lake that the house overlooks. The house has all the amenities of home. There is a stove, full size refrigerator and all the necessary cooking utensils. It features a Full Bath and with 2 queen beds, and 3 twin beds up stairs, with a pull out sofa down stairs, it sleeps up to 9 people comfortably. About Thomas Greenan

I relocated from LI NY to South Florida in 1996, where I currently reside. I live in Palm Beach Gardens and still get to visit our family vacation home periodically.

Thomas Greenan purchased this house in 1968

Why Thomas Greenan chose Central Vermont / Sugarbush / Mad River Valley

My dad purchased this property in 1968. It has been in our family since and would love for it to remain that way. I have spent the better part of my childhood and teenage years at this house and enjoyed all the outdoor activities that you would expect to find in an area like this. We hope to rent it to individuals that can appreciate the beauty of it and enjoy it as much as we do

What makes this house unique

The serene tranquility of sitting on the porch and simply taking in everything that Mother Nature has to offer is one of the pleasures that you can experience after taking in all the outdoor activities.

Peaceful, beautiful views

We were in Vermont for our son's wedding and wanted a place to get away from the festivities and have our family all in one location. This property was perfect for that purpose. Rustic, yet homelike, we enjoyed cooking for family (the kitchen comes fully furnished), sitting on the screened porch, and making a fire in the fire pit. The property easily sleeps 9 (we had 6). There is a country store about a 10 minute walk away that is convenient if you forget a key ingredient. The best part is Curtis Pond. -- we called it "On Golden Pond." Amazing sunrises and quiet moments.

Pondside camp - great for families

  • 4 of 5

We stayed here for a week in early July 2014 and didn't know quite what to expect before seeing it but it was spacious, clean, and fun. You walk in and think, what a great place for a family gathering! The bedrooms are all upstairs and the one bathroom downstairs so that's a little funky but it's a camp after all, not a luxury rental. I think the price is quite reasonable given the location with it's own dock, rowboat included! It's definitely a family house, complete with a lot of family stuff crammed into cabinets and dressers, but some of it (fishing poles) came in handy. The screened-in porch is an understated charmer and we spent much of our time on it, watching over our 6 year olds as they tromped up and down to the dock. The water is shallow by the dock, so relatively safe for children who have had some swimming experience, plus there are ample life jackets to wear when boating.

The owner, Tom, was really excellent about answering our questions and concerns and handled a potentially unhappy situation (dock in disrepair and needing replacement) with equanimity and graciousness and even extended our stay for a few nights so we could finally use the new dock that was delayed in arriving. So that was really super. My rating is 4 stars as I think the house could do with some cleaning out and tidying up of stuff and also some tree trimming to bring more sunshine onto the house and dock.

We are frequent visitors to Maple Corner and used to live in the area so our main attractions were our friends and family but the Maple Corner store now hosts a bar with live music (The Whammy Bar) which is such an awesome, walkable amenity! Plus there are community offerings such as a barn dance at the big blue barn, yoga at the community center, and swimming lessons in the pond in the morning (alas not a hit with my shivering children but they let us drop-in and check it out). It's very low-key and to find information about events you probably need to check the bulletin board at the store and the community center -- it's a lovely, old-fashioned place!

Magical

  • 4 of 5

We absolutely loved this camp. My husband and I were in VT for the week before our daughter's wedding, helping them to get ready. We needed a place near Montpelier and this was the perfect distance. The minute we walked in the house, I felt like I had lived there before. Nothing fancy but perfectly homey and comfortable. The beds were comfortable, the kitchen an adequate size to work in and the front screened in porch overlooking the pond was the best. Lots of stairs down to the pond but once there the water was great, the loons were fun to watch and listen to and our yellow lab thought she was in heaven. I imagine this is also a fishermen's paradise. We would recommend this to people who enjoy a rustic atmosphere and relaxed living. Can't wait to go back!

Just What We Were Looking for.

  • 4 of 5

My family had the best time, The pictures didn't do the setting justice the minute the pavement ends it becomes like a Norman Rockwell painting the minute I saw the General Store I was hooked. The house was clean and very well kept.. When we walked in the house we got why its called Dads Dream you fel right at home and it was great to be able to be away but still have access to the internet and cell phones which made my kids happy. My daughters friend caught her first fish off the dock which was great she was so happy. I didn't think they would go swimming but they did everyday they loved it. We BBQ at home all the time but the food tasted so much better up there. And there was so much to do everyday you can be out everyday or just stay and chill at the house, I have already recommended it to my friends and family. We are already planning our next trip hopefully this fall. Thank you very much for a wonderful and relaxing vacation. One more thing at night go outside and turn the lights in the house off and look at the sky you will be amazed the stars look like you can touch them.

Rustic retreat

  • 2 of 5

This is a parially renovated camp on a hill above a clear water, lily pad pond, where some individuals swim. The pond would be conducive for canoes, kayaks and small rowboats, which can be launched at the commuity boat launch, but would be very difficult to launch from the waterfront property. The listing photos reflect the rental's appearance, but realize that this is rustic lodging in a woodland setting. The short approach is an uphill, ungraded dirt road. Most of the roads in the area are hard pack, but can be navigated by cars.

There would be safety concerns for young children under the age of 4. Seniors with mobility problems or disabled would have difficulty navigating the outside stairs and the stairs to the upstairs bedrooms. This location would probably not be good for anyone with seasonal and/or environmental allergies. This would be good as a men's retreat who want quiet and enjoy the outdoors. Fishing from the dock is poor, because of the grass and lily pads. There are many lakes, ponds and state parks in the surrounding vicinities.

If you are dependent on your i-phone, i-pad or twitter, facebook and google, this is not the place for you. When you get down off the mountain in certain locations, you will find mobile service. GPS does work in all locations. Since most of our family and friends can't live without constant instant messaging, we would not recomment this rental to them.
