About the property

The Log Cabin Will Capture Your Heart And Settle Your Mind.

This one room rustic log cabin was built in 1946 and is 640 sq ft. There is a full bed, 1 IKEA twin chair bed and a full sofa futon. Fully equipped kitchen, fireplace and the bath has a roomy claw footed tub.

This cabin is for those that truly want to 'get away from it all', no TV, no phone - sporadic cell service.

The Black Hills National Forest borders the back yard. We provide the firewood. Deer and turkey cross through the yard.

About Rita Chapman

Both of us have lived in South Dakota since we were 12 and our daughter has lived here all her life.  We raced bicycles (on and off road) for 10 years before settling in Silver City. Tally has participated in the Race Across America - finishing twice and Rita was an Expert Cross Country National Champion in Mountain Biking. Both of us have numerous state championships in our divisions for both road racing and mountain biking. This history of traveling, racing and hosting other poor cyclists at our home influenced us in our purchase of Tallys' fathers cabin business. It has suited us tremendously, we love to meet people and help them have a memorable vacation.

Rita Chapman purchased this cabin in 1998

Why Rita Chapman chose Black Hills

We would love to share our little slice of heaven in Silver City with anyone in need of a place to “get away from it all”.

What makes this cabin unique

There are unlimited activities available in the Black Hills from kayaking, inner tubing down the creek, rock climbing, cross country or downhill skiing, hunting, running, geocaching, fishing, it is up to your imagination. We love being outdoors.  Mountain biking, running and hiking are our favorite activities in Silver City.  Tally is the mountain biking trail expert and Rita has the running trails dialed in. If you are not too fast we may even join you. We have a garden, weeding is always available for those interested. Ask for information anytime.  By the end of July the raspberries are getting ripe and the season continues through 3rd week of August. It is not hard to find a wild patch.

Peaceful. Back to nature!

  • 5 of 5

Owners were very accommodating and helpful. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The view is incredible!!! Our main goal was to relax and ride ATV's and that we did. This property is awesome. The no TV, radio, internet & cell reception made this so enjoyable and a NICE break from hectic life. Would recommend this to anyone!

Cute Cabin-Beautiful Area

  • 5 of 5

I was surprised by how awesome our stay was. I convinced my parents to go on a family vacation since they don't really get out much. They suggested we take a road trip to the West and hit up my dream locations which is completely unlike them. I didn't think they would enjoy it so much and I was pretty nervous, but they LOVED our stay at Happy Trails Log Cabin. Unfortunately, we had to move onto our next State; Wyoming. I plan on making a return sometime soon for a longer stay. The cabin was very cozy and the Chapman's welcoming. We kept pretty busy and I felt there wasn't much time to take everything in and get to know the folks in the area. There were no disappointments with this cabin and I highly recommend booking with Happy Trails!

A gem in the hills

  • 5 of 5

We absolutely loved our stay in the Log Cabin. The setting is nothing but serenity and the cabin has a charm all its own. We were pleasantly surprised with the size (it was larger than I expected). We were able to have a lovely fire both inside and outside and enjoy the area, which offers a nice walking path. If relaxation and beauty are what you seek, than this is the place for you! The allure of this place will definitely bring us back, not to mention the wonderful hospitality of the owners.
