We live in a lovely and idyllic small town outside of Boulder, CO. Yet when we need to plug into the deep essence of mother nature at her finest - we head for Cortes!
Parker Johnson purchased this cabin in 2003
The view from our cabin is simply as stunning and seductive as it gets. No matter how long we are there - we wish it was twice as long - and our friends and guests pretty much all say the same thing. This is one of those magical places you simply will not want to leave.
The custom designed, wood-fired sauna in the garden is unique - and sensational. The cedar hot tub overlooking Twin Islands and Desolation Sound is magical - so much so in fact, we conceived our first child there! ;-)
I attended a conference at Hollyhock in September and required somewhere close to stay, Parker's cabin was perfect, a one minute bike ride to Hollyhock. The cabin itself is beautiful with all the comforts of home. I felt like time slowed right down while I sat on the deck listening to seals play in the water and sail boats pass leisurely by. The hot tub on the deck was nice too. The home is comfortable, clean and perfect for a couple, small family or possibly two couples. As a host of a vacation rental, I can appreciate the work involved to keep this place looking the way it does. I highly recommend.
Three of us stayed here, old friends, a couple who slept on the screened and windowed large front porch (it was quite warm enough) and myself indoors in the downstairs bed, though there's also a good bed in the loft bedroom upstairs. The cabin is spacious enough for three, and the ever-changing views and inside/outside ease of places to read, talk, cook (well-equipped kitchen), and eat were just right. Hot tub very relaxing, too. The weather was perfect during most of our 10-day stay, perhaps unusually so, the freshness of the air and sounds of wind and birds exquisite (I'm a big city dweller). When it got cool there was good heating from vents or the indoor wood stove. David (who is the nearby manager) and Leaf were very responsive to requests, and took care of anything we needed as soon as contacted. Before we arrived, Parker, the owner, sent us good and extensive information, so we could take advantage of all the cabin and the island offer. The location is a good jumping off point, allowing us to get anywhere on the island quickly by car, and is also walking distance to a beautiful beach area at Smelt Bay as well as Hollyhock. This was a splendid and memorable vacation.
My sister and I stayed here for a few nights to visit Hollyhock and hike. The location is right next to Hollyhock, the property is lovely and the view and decks are amazing. There was an island wide power outage for several of the days we were there and there was no water for showers, etc. There were no flashlights with batteries or many candles. The place was dusty and my sister found personal lubricant in the bedside drawer in the loft. My sister's family and my family have stayed in lots of VRBO properties and had no complaints. If this place was cleaner or a little more effort made (first impression coming through the screen door is a faded, torn cover on the bed on the deck) this place would be amazing. The owner did offer us a night free because of the power outage. But i think next time we'll stay at Hollyhock.
We had a great stay here. The cabin was just as described. It's small and cozy but has a big covered porch and beautiful ocean views. We loved the hot tub on the deck and having a fire in the wood stove. The cabin had everything you need, including laundry and a well equipped kitchen (though no oil, vinegar or spices etc). One thing to be aware of is that the ladder to the sleeping loft is quite steep. All in all we loved our stay here. It would make for a great romantic getaway.
Loved staying here. As the title says 'Artist's Retreat', which for me meant I was full of inspiration, vision and spent alot of time dancing/choreographing.. It has every modern luxury one could need without loosing its rustic charm; in addition some lovely bohemian touches. We would stay here again in a heartbeat. Deep Gratitude to Parker & Family.
We loved our stay on Cortes and it was all thanks to this wonderful cabin. Pictures alone cannot do this place justice. It's super cozy, very intelligently laid out, has everything you might need, and is a perfect distance between walkability to lots of places and sufficiently remote to allow for feeling away from it all. Bikes were our primary transport and with them, we were able to get everywhere. We will most certainly return to this special place!
As is the case with all VRBO rentals - all bookings are made via credit card in U.S. DOLLARS.
