Chad and Sue are in there middle years and have lived on the Island for over 25 years. We have been managing Aloha Lani for many years and do all of the yard work on our 3 acres. We do the house keeping for the rental ourselves so every detail is taken car off. This keeps us very busy but we love it.
We gather fruit from our trees every morning and fell blessed to live here. We love sharing
our bit of paradise with our guest.
The Owner purchased this house in 1996
Just a 4 minute walk down our drive to the ocean and a beautiful and pristine undeveloped coastline owned by the State that runs miles in either direction. It is much like when the Hawaiians lived here. We can walk to a Black sand beach about a mile from us. The location and feeling of old Hawaii
is why we are on this property.
Privacy in a beautiful setting with an ocean view. You will be staying in a comfortable home on 3 tropical landscaped Acres located just 800 ft from the ocean an easy walk down our drive way. There you will find miles of undeveloped coastline that looks just like it did when the Hawaiians lived in this area. Original rock walls that they built are still visible. At our drive way entrance the coast road is covered over by a grove of very old kamani trees to crate one of the best photo opts to be found on Island. It has been used by many artiest over the years. The felling of old Hawaii is very much alive around us something that cannot be found in a subdivision type of setting. This is what makes our are and place special.
We love to share this with people because they love being here.
My husband, adult son and myself recently spent a week at Chads Place. Our purpose for this trip was to look for property in the Hilo & Pahoa area and also take a much needed vacation at the same time. This vacation rental is in the perfect location on the coast. We sat outside in the morning drinking our coffee, smelling the wonderful fragrance of the beautiful tropical landscaping, listening to the birds and watched the local wildlife, then we would take a walk along the ocean, and I must mention watching the shooting stars at night. Everything we needed and liked to do was within 15-20 minutes walk or drive away, the tide pools to snorkel in, warm swiming pond, black sand beach, Valcano, the Lava flows, dinning and shopping in Pahoa & Hilo. At the end of the road is a store, cafe, and the friendliest little outdoor bar I've ever been to. The house itself was great, very clean, big bathroom, the beds were comfortable, great kitchen , washer & dryer, and a nice media room for the rare times we used it for watching TV. The hosts Chad and Sue are delightful. We plan on being regular guests. I will recommend Chads place to everyone.
Chad and Sue are caretakers of nature with all the plantings and birds on their property. And they are equally dedicated to the comfort of guests who come to their retreat. The immaculate house had everything we could possibly use during our weeks stay. Among the kitchen equipment was an electric juicer for the fruit Sue regularly brought us. We cooked, washed clothes, used the internet, browsed the bookshelves, ate and lounged on the lanai, roamed the grounds and walked across the road to the ocean. The pictures were completely accurate, although they can’t capture the feeling of serenity, the beauty of the flowers or the birdsong in the morning. It was an easy drive to the many nearby attractions, on which Chad and Sue were happy to advise us.
Spent an entire month here and felt like I had landed in Heaven. For someone like me who comes from a (very) cold country, the warmth of the breeze and the lushness of the surroundings translated into pure bliss. Chad & Sue are wonderful hosts - truly the best hosts (and the most environmentally-conscious) I have encountered since starting to book properties on VRBO a few years ago.
Their little two-bedroom house really has everything you need for an enjoyable stay. Everything: comfortable beds, chairs and sofas, strategically placed fans, covered deck with seating for three or four people, fully-equipped kitchen, huge Samsung flat-screen LCD smart TV upstairs, and (most importantly) peace & quiet all around. Everything is where it should be: you can tell a lot of planning and hard work has gone into making this guest house the most comfortable place one could hope for. The house was super clean when I arrived and the landscaping is beautifully done. The property features several kinds of fruit trees: pomelo, orange, grapefruit and avocado were in season during my stay.
That being said, this place will not suit everyone. The reason I loved it so much is that I like to feel like I'm living "outside" when visiting these tropical climes: the house has large screened windows on both floors that can be opened (and left opened most of the time), so that you can feel the lovely breeze and hear the wind, the rain and the wildlife outside (mostly birds and frogs). "Living outside" in a climate such as this one unfortunately means that you will get occasional "company" in the house, and since I do not have an aversion to insects and lizards, I was perfectly comfortable in this environment. But I know that people differ, and if you're the type of person who cannot stand ants and the occasional millipede, then you might want to look for a place on the dry side of the island.
The only little thing that could be improved upon is the Internet connection, which was not very reliable when I was here. Thankfully, email & Netflix worked adequately most of the time. Also, I was only able to get a very faint signal on my cell phone (with AT&T), and only in certain parts of the house, which made placing and receiving phone calls a challenge (VoIP calls were not possible during my stay due to the nature of the Internet connection).
Thank you again Chad & Sue for an unforgettable stay. I really hope to be able to come back someday.
Very nice! Caretakers have the house and grounds very clean. Big windows to enjoy the beautiful gardens. Close to the ocean and town. I just enjoy doing nothing! We are excited to visit again for the 3 year this July 2015.
My husband and I spent 9 days at Sue and Chad's beautiful tropical cottage. Our stay was not only peaceful, but Sue and Chad made it interesting and delicious as well! Sue has a wealth of information on the amazing and varied flora and fauna on the property and shared the delicious bounty of their many home-grown foods - avocados, tomatos, oranges, Meyer lemons, papayas, figs and more! Our gracious hosts were close and available when we had questions and unobtrusive when we did not need them. The ocean view from the lanai was soothing and changed constantly, from sunrise to sunset and beyond. The star gazing was awesome as well. The cottage had everything you could need for a comfortable stay - but remember, you are in a tropical rain forest - so there are bugs and geckos and all sorts of interesting sounds, particularly at night - nothing alarming, but you are not staying in a pesticide-bathed hotel. A short walk to the cliffs revealed crashing waves and breaching whales - an awesome spectacle! We would love to return and spend more time relaxing and soaking up the fresh air, sun and peacefullness of this lovely place!
We were returning to the big island to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary after being here 20 years ago. This property is a great location for exploring the southern part of the island. You can easily get to Hilo and Volcano as day trips and then return to the seclusion and quiet of Chad and Sue's cottage. There are many sights to explore just a half hour's drive along the coast. Tidepools, beach walks, surfing and walking on the lava at Robert's beach area just to name a few. The home has lots of space and very clean and well set up for a family or two couples. We returned from our sight seeing early a couple of days we were there to enjoy the setting with the view of the ocean between the palms in the distance. Great views at sunrise and sunset. Suppers on the lanai were great even if it was showering. We were very happy to visit with Sue on a couple of occasions. Such a delightful person. All the correspondence was handled in a very prompt manner and instructions on the access was great as was the binder with local restaurant and other tips. We arrived after dark in the pouring rain and had no trouble following the instructions provided. Sue had left us a note to contact when we arrived to show us around which was a nice touch. Also when we left they brought us a sampling of the produce from their garden. I have never seen such a large avacado. Thanks Chad and Sue
