We have a lot of friends who summer out this way and we were looking for a nice little saltbox, but when this building presented itself, we couldn't refuse. It was clear that it would have to be more than a private residence. It is a building meant to be shared: to be filled with people, conversations, music and creativity. So when we designed the living area we made sure to keep a large portion as open space for meetings or performances. Work or play. Or both. It is a special place indeed.
Some of the best times we've had are with a bunch of families with children. Spend the afternoon at Northern Bay Sands and come back for a glass of wine, a bbq and a bonfire. In the morning you can stroll over to the local beach just across the road. If the weather doesn't cooperate, the place is big enough that you're not on top of each other. Find a book from our growing library and settle in for a good read while the kids play DDR, paint a picture, play a board game or watch a movie.
I love the church at Ochre Pit Cove! My partner and I, along with some friends, spent a wonderful weekend out there last summer. The restored church is so beautiful and it feels incredibly special when the sun shines through the stained glass! Also, it is very spacious. Perfect for dance parties! It had everything we needed for cooking and bbq-ing gorgeous meals and many modern comforts to boot. The sandy beach in Northern Bay is a 5 minute drive, but we preferred walking across the street and down to the rocky beach that we had completely to ourselves. Heaven.
We had the most wonderful time of our lives and everyone still talks about how great it was. My Brother and his family(10 in all)from England joined my Husband and I for 2 super days at the Church. We had lots of room and places for the children to play and the rest to relax. We went to the beach, had a BBQ and Bonfire at night it was just brilliant. I will recommend it to anyone who is planning a family reunion in the future. Thanks Lisa
We really enjoyed our stay. When looking for a cabin for our large group, another business told us we needed The Church at Ochre Pit Cove, and we were glad they did. It was spacious and had something for everyone. The kids (& adults) had fun on the PS2, ping pong table, and air hockey. The littlest ones had space to play (though I'd try and get a baby gate next time), and loved finding the hidden toy room upstairs. There were books everywhere :)
We would definitely return and reccomend, the owners were great to deal with as well.
My group and I were delighted with the Church at Ochre Pit Cove for a facility to hold a yoga and creativity retreat. It was intimate, quiet, close to nature, and had a peaceful, warm energy as soon as you stepped in the doors. Lisa provided healthy and delicious meals and took care of every detail with ease - including dietary variations. The space was perfect for yoga and meditation, and the layout of the facility allowed for plenty of group and solo time. The space was inspirational for a retreat... and I'm returning with my family because it is also a perfect place to have a relaxing family vacation. Thank-you, Lisa, for offering this space. <3
Fantastic location and facility. The owners' attention to detail and thoughtfulness are evident throughout the property. Stayed for a weekend in late October with friends and thoroughly enjoyed it.
We heard about the Church from a group of friends that had stayed there earlier this year. By all accounts, it was a fantastic spot. We just got back from our first weekend at the Church, and it exceeded expectations. The scenery on the drive to and from St. John's is breathtaking, the beach is only a short drive away, and there are more than enough games and activities at the Church to keep people of all ages entertained for days on end..! We absolutely loved the unfinished games basement, but equally pleasing were the modern and extremely clean bathrooms and bedrooms. The kitchen and living area were also exactly what we were hoping for. Bottom line, you can't go wrong with the Church at Ochre Pit Cove.
This is my 3rd time renting The Church at Ochre Pit Cove….doesn't that say it all?! Lisa, the owner, is so helpful and generous. They keep on making great improvements to the space. The church offers space for communal time (art making, eating, hanging out) and solo time. It is spacious and yet still has a coziness to it. The daily excursions we take are AWE-some! So much beauty in this area. Already dreaming about our 4th retreat in 2017!
Thank you for creating such welcoming space.
