French-Canadian André is a retired diplomat; Ann worked in the travel industry and public affairs. They both have a keen interest in health and well-being which is reflected in their choice of Clos Mirabel and its outstanding location looking over vineyards, out towards the entire chain of the Pyrénées Atlantiques. Ann has a keen interest in psychology; Emily attended French school and finished her secondary education at the international school in Pau.
The Owner purchased this cottage in 2003
Much travelled Ann and Andre fell in love with Clos Mirabel and its breath-taking views over 13 years ago. They lived in the 18th Century Manor House for 2 years before undertaking a major renovation in 2005 retaining as many of the historical features as possible.
The original house at Clos Mirabel was a very simple Béarnaise farmhouse built between 1732 and 1738. A small barn was added a little later. In 1825, the property was purchased by Jean Mirabel, hence the name, Clos Mirabel. At the same time he bought several acres of land that included the vineyard.
Set in 15 acres of parkland the Clos Mirabel Estate offers you a chance to relax in a peaceful setting. Clos Mirabel provides a hilltop haven in Bed and Breakfast and Self Catering Accommodation where visitors feel refreshed and inspired.
Everyone can enjoy the park at their leisure. It offers swings, swimming pool and trampoline for some, exploratory walks for others or simply relaxation in the shade of our oak trees. Admire the magnificent uninterrupted views of the entire chain of the Pyrénées Atlantiques.
The large mosaic tiled pool in the Clos Mirabel grounds is available to all guests from May to mid October. Partly solar heated measuring 12×6 meters and with a depth of 1-2 meters, it offers amazing views of the vineyards and Pyrénées.
Sun loungers, garden furniture and barbecues are also provided for your relaxation.

My family and I stayed at the Winery for 3 days, 4 nights in early April and we loved every minute. The winery, which sits alongside the Manor House, had everything we needed for our self catering stay – cooker, over, fridge, microwave, kettle etc. It was comfortable, warm and spacious. I have a real soft spot for wooden floors and those lovely French shutters and the winery didn’t disappoint. The English/French speaking hosts, Benoit & Maryse, were extremely friendly and always on hand to answer any questions or give advice. The most spectacular thing about the Winery, however, is its views of the Pyrenees which are second to none. Having never had much to do with mountains, I have a new found fondness for them. My two young boys had plenty of space to run around safely in the grounds immediately surrounding the Winery and the Manor House, which meant my husband and I could relax with some local cheese and wine by the pool and take in the lovely ambience. On a practical note, Clos Mirabel is just a short drive from local supermarkets where you can pick up just about anything you will need.
From the end of August 2013 to the end of June 2014 our family (my husband, our three children and me) had the great privilege and pleasure of living in the apartment in the Winery at Clos Mirabel. Clos Mirabel has such a fortunate location – it was the most wonderful base for our ten-month long stay in France – just next to the larger city of Pau but at the same time undisturbed and close to nature. However, it was not the absence of noise we enjoyed the most – but the presence of a very special atmosphere of calmness and serenity that is characteristic of Clos Mirabel. The view towards the Pyrenees is something quite extraordinary, there is so much sky above one’s head and the ever-changing beauty of the landscape was something we enjoyed every day, even in the dark months. We simply all thrived there. Clos Mirabel was also a convenient starting point for many trips to the Basque country, the mountains (all seasons) and Spain. Ann and André were very kind and attentive landlords, we could always turn to them for advice and help, it was a great comfort to have their knowledge of the area always at hand. In short, our stay has given us lifelong memories that we will always cherish.

(I had to enter another arrival date to submit this review - please note that we arrived end August 2013.)
We stayed in the Winery Apartment for a week and thoroughly enjoyed our visit. Our hosts Andre and Ann were very helpful in terms of restaurant and sightseeing recommendations, and the accommodation is well presented and in a beautiful location - not far from the amenities of Jurancon and Pau, but with a real rural feel. I'd recommend exploring the Vallee d'Ossau which is close by - magnificent mountain scenery everywhere! Overall a lovely spot to stay and I'd highly recommend it.
This was the priciest of our verbose rentals, and the one most nearly approximating a five-star hotel. ( There is a small pool.) As other reviewers have remarked, the hosts are especially gracious: by all means accept their recommendations for local dining. And be sure to pick in The wine store of Gan the sweet dessert wine Clos Mirabel bottled from grapes grown on the property. The apt for two in the Winery with the views was worth the price.
Excellent location & wonderful views. Definitely recommend The Winery as a great place to stay and enjoy the Pryenees. Andre & Anne are delightful hosts.
We had a great family holiday when we stayed at The Winery, Clos-Mirabel. The facilities are excellent, and the view from the house is stunning. The children loved the pool, and entertained themselves on the trampoline and swings.
Clos-Mirabel is well placed, if you want to travel by car, to visit Pau, go skiing, travel over the border to Spain, or visit the beach at Biarittz. I would certainly recommend this holiday property to family and friends.
Situated 5 kms from Pau, between ocean and mountains, Clos Mirabel is 1/2 hour from Lourdes, the Pyrénées National Park and less than 1 hour from the French and Spanish ski resorts, the Atlantic Coast with its surfing beaches, sailing and some of the loveliest golf courses in France. Situated in the heart of the Jurancon vineyards it is ideal for walking and climbing holidays, golf, skiing, wine tasting and gastronomy.. The region is known for its food and wine.
Clos Mirabel is very close to Pau and all it has to offer: its Chateau, Casino, golf courses, race course and show jumping events, its Grand Prix. Pau Pyrénées airport is 20' away with flights to London, Bristol, Amsterdam, Brussels, Paris and Lyon. Lourdes Airport is 30 minutes, Biarritz 1 hour, Toulouse 2 hours.
