We bathed and drank and brushed our teeth with bottled water b/c of sewage smell from the well. The water coming out of the faucets was not usable and drinkable. My dad literally got sick and a fever after attempting to drink the water. We killed probably 7-8 spiders while we were there a short time and lots of webs. Oddly enough my brother while sitting on the couch reading the book that people sign when staying etc. saw that we were not the only ones that had spider trouble while being there. Would not recommend the house or the owner and would suggest finding somewhere else to stay. Plus no cell service-so no way to call the owner and let her know about any issues while at the house.
The cottage has some nice decorative touches like the head of a rake as a rack for cooking utensils. A nice quilt covering the sofa, wicker rocking chair. The area is very quiet. The lake is quiet. We enjoyed the peacefulness. The kitchen is very well equipped for cooking. The size was perfect for 2 people even though there are 3 bedrooms and you can sleep 8. With 1 bathroom, I think that would be difficult. I would like to recommend a new carpet in the living/dining area. Other than that improvement, we enjoyed our stay.
The cottage is a really nice place where you feel at home. It was very well kept but basic. It's not on the water but you can see the lake in between the houses across the road. The purpose of our trip was to go fishing. The rowboat had no anchor and was too small for the choppy lake most of the weekend. I specifically asked about boat rentals in the area but received no response. We ended up driving from Charlevoix to Traverse City to Elk Rapids trying to find some "shore" spots to fish. The cottage was just a nice cozy house to sleep, and one night had a little campfire out back. The entertainment during the campfire was the loud neighbors across the way. Definitely has the "cottage" feel.
We left new logs in the fire pit for the next guests.
The cabin was nice to stay in. It was clean and warm. There were four things that would have made it better. I found out when I got there that trash bags, towels and dvd player weren't furnished. The driveway wasn't plowed so we had to park on road. All in all everything worked out okay. I'd use it again.
My family loved this place very quite and peaceful, we only stayed for 2 days. All the essentials were included which made the trip even easier. The games and movies was just a plus, got to enjoy a few classic with the family. It was nice BBQ and have eating outside. It was only hour away from traverse city , which was nice to see. I highly recommend this cottage. Great place next time will stay whole week.
What a unique and beautiful cottage! The cottage had to everything my family and 2 dogs needed. The cottage was clean and the beds were comfortable. The neighbors were friendly and the row boat was great to cruise the shore with. Colleen was very easy to deal with and accommodating. We Plan to stay here again.
