The Manistee River is only 15 minutes away and offer some of the areas best canoeing and fly fishing.

the cottage

The cottage has some nice decorative touches like the head of a rake as a rack for cooking utensils. A nice quilt covering the sofa, wicker rocking chair. The area is very quiet. The lake is quiet. We enjoyed the peacefulness. The kitchen is very well equipped for cooking. The size was perfect for 2 people even though there are 3 bedrooms and you can sleep 8. With 1 bathroom, I think that would be difficult. I would like to recommend a new carpet in the living/dining area. Other than that improvement, we enjoyed our stay.

Not Bad, Not Great, Very Clean

  • 3 of 5

The cottage is a really nice place where you feel at home. It was very well kept but basic. It's not on the water but you can see the lake in between the houses across the road. The purpose of our trip was to go fishing. The rowboat had no anchor and was too small for the choppy lake most of the weekend. I specifically asked about boat rentals in the area but received no response. We ended up driving from Charlevoix to Traverse City to Elk Rapids trying to find some "shore" spots to fish. The cottage was just a nice cozy house to sleep, and one night had a little campfire out back. The entertainment during the campfire was the loud neighbors across the way. Definitely has the "cottage" feel.

We left new logs in the fire pit for the next guests.

I'd stay there again

  • 4 of 5

The cabin was nice to stay in. It was clean and warm. There were four things that would have made it better. I found out when I got there that trash bags, towels and dvd player weren't furnished. The driveway wasn't plowed so we had to park on road. All in all everything worked out okay. I'd use it again.

Owner's Response: Hi Gordon. I'm so sorry about the misunderstanding about the drive, so I have refunded you a free night stay. We had a bad storm up there, and I lost my fridge, microwave and DVD player. I have replace the fridge and microwave, but I still need to bring a new DVD player up. Sorry. Hope you enjoyed the VCR! Towels are not provided (In contract), but you should have had garbage bags; I will look into that. Hope you come stay again. Take care Colleen

My family loved this place very quite and peaceful, we only stayed for 2 days. All the essentials were included which made the trip even easier. The games and movies was just a plus, got to enjoy a few classic with the family. It was nice BBQ and have eating outside. It was only hour away from traverse city , which was nice to see. I highly recommend this cottage. Great place next time will stay whole week.

What a unique and beautiful cottage! The cottage had to everything my family and 2 dogs needed. The cottage was clean and the beds were comfortable. The neighbors were friendly and the row boat was great to cruise the shore with. Colleen was very easy to deal with and accommodating. We Plan to stay here again.

Peaceful week on the lake

  • 5 of 5

Our family really enjoyed the low key, relaxing stay. Thank you Colleen. One small thing is one of the row boat oar hooks was broken. This is the tubular part on the boat that the oar sits in. We were able to use it but the oar kept slipping out. Also, over the course of a couple days the sulfur smell in the water seemed to increase. We used bottled water so it wasn't a big deal but wanted to let you know.

Owner's Response: Hi Loula. I'm glad you had a good time at the cottage. I didn't know about the oar bracket; thanks for letting me know. I will look into getting that repaired. As far as the water had been inspected, and it is safe to drink. I drink it, but I know many of my guest prefer bottled water. Hope to see you again. Colleen
