This is a brand new cabin (2012) owned and managed by the same owners of the Grand Canyon Cabin in Kanab. Please see Listing #246466 for guest reviews.
We're an empty-nest professional couple, and we were looking for a quiet rental property in Kanab for 5 days of hiking, photography, and sight-seeing. We couldn't have been happier with Goldena's cabin, and we'd go back there in an instant. Dru and Bob were easy to communicate with, were prompt in their responses, and simply a really nice couple to do business with.
The cabin was exactly as pictured. It was spotless and very well maintained, with everything in good working order. It had upscale linens and a kitchen that was well stocked with cooking utensils and service for four. The lighting was well thought-out, with lots of 3-way switches, dimmers, and, good labels on all of them. The wi-fi was reliable and fast, and although we didn't watch any TV we made ample use of the broad range of music selections available through the satellite system.
When we arrived we found a Welcome note from Dru and Bob, along with a placard with helpful local information, both of which were nice touches. There is also a basket filled with books and pamphlets for local activities and tour operators, along with menus for some of the local restaurants.
The cabin is well situated on a large lot on the outskirts of town, with a nice vista to the East and South, and backing up to hills on the north and west. It's also just a few blocks away from downtown Kanab, making trips to the grocery store and other shopping quick and convenient.
Goldena’s Cabin is a perfect place to call “home” when vacationing in southern Utah. The cabin is bright, clean, new, well equipped, and located close to many parks.
The views from the inside are just as amazing as they are outside. I loved having coffee on the porch before venturing out every day.
We originally wanted to stay in Page, but couldn’t find a place we liked, so we started looking in Kanab and I’m so glad we found Goldena’s Cabin. Kanab is a beautiful town, and has a couple of decent grocery stores.
The drive to Zion was about an hour, as well as Page. The drives, no matter which direction, are very scenic.
Bob and Dru’s cabin is a wonderful place to come back to at the end of the day. I took some amazing photos from the front porch! If you call their cabin “home” during your stay, you won’t be disappointed!
Goldena's Cabin was wonderful. The cabin was well furnished, very clean, and in such a quiet neighborhood-which was appreciated!
The owners Bob and Dru were very friendly and provided some great insight into the area concerning places of interest, etc. The front and back porches were places that we hung out the most - when we weren't out in many of the National Parks in the area. Beautiful setting and views out the front door - so lovely. We would highly recommend this cabin and have even thought about coming next year. Thanks Bob and Dru!
Let's start with the basics - it's well located if you're going to Zion, Bryce, Page, Lake Powell, and other attractions within driving distance of Kanab. You’re about 2 minutes of driving and 15 minutes walking from Kanab. You’re remote but not too far removed as the house sits on 2 acres (or felt like it). The cabin has a fantastic front and back porch and the neighborhood itself is very quiet. We’d sit on the back porch in the morning to watch the moon-set and on the front porch at night to watch the stars come out. While there are two bedrooms, we only slept in one; the bed was very comfortable and the sheets were soft. I appreciated having ceiling fans in the house and the abundance of windows that let in all the wonderful natural light. We've been staying at HomeAway/VRBO properties for years and this is the first one that seemed to have EVERYTHING. Again, having been at other HA/VRBO properties, there was always something missing – either a kitchen item, plastic bags, soap. Nope, not here. It’s well equipped. This is truly a pet friendly cabin as there is a drawer dedicated to pet toys and supplies and an entire bin/basket for blankets. (It's worth noting the backyard is fenced in.) We have tried to think of something constructive that they could improve upon and nothing comes to mind. We didn’t use the TV, gas heater, Weber cooker; the washing machine/dryer, gas stove, and WiFi were all perfect.
Our apologies for being so tardy with our review. My wife and I with our two Aussies were totally stoked by "Goldena's Cabin" it was like walking into a Sunset Magazine photo spread. A perfect base for daily trips to multiple locations for both hiking and taking pictures of all the surrounding vistas. Bryce & Zion were an easy drive, easy access to main highway to head south towards Powell and Wire Pass slot canyon. The fenced back yard was perfect to allow our Aussies a chance to stretch their legs and was free of Goat heads, have to watch it in the front yard though, just kept them leash out there. We ate most of our evening meals there, decent grocery store near by, going out for breakfast was a little challenging but ok, lunches were what we packed for the day. At night the big bluff out back on the horizon was a good back drop for night photography. The only thing we could not find was a mop, after some rain, red clay dog prints on the tile floor, one would have been handy but we carry dog towels for such a possibility. We had rain & snow and beautiful warm days, the gas stove really added a warmth when curled up on the couch's watching tv.
My cousin and I stayed here in October, along with my dog. We visited the North Rim, Bryce and, briefly, Zion. Goldena's is perfect for the relatively short drives to each park. The have directTV so we were able to watch the Texas Rangers beat up the Toronto Blue Jays - we grilled on the weber charcoal grill a couple of nights (couldn't locate a grill brush, which was shocking considering how well stocked this place is: kitchen is fully stocked with all the extras you could need to cook any meal, condiments aplenty in the fridge, several bags of coffee of all types in the freezer, a nice gas range, pet bowls which I forgot to bring, and on and on). The desert landscaping was done really well and adds a lot of curb appeal as you pull through the gate each evening. Nice front patio, easy in and out. Out back is more desert landscaping in a large fenced in area. The property does back up against another home, the only sign of life we saw was from the chicken coop - but not noisy at all. The owners provide a detailed welcome letter with a lot of great information. They are courteous but not intrusive, the privacy is nice. Inside is clean and charmingly decorated - a gas stovepipe oven adds to the ambience at night. It really is a great place to stay, and as a hotel manager I can attest that the cleanliness standards here are solid.
Ok, so as much as we love Goldena's, I do have a couple of suggestions to improve an already great experience:
Invest in some durable, comfortable seating for the back yard - the night sky is such a huge part of what makes a trip like this memorable. The patio is covered, which is great, and has terrific views of the nearby rocky bluff. Some comfortable outdoor furniture would invite guests to spend more time outside in this great space.
And...add a dishwasher. LOL, we cooked a large steak dinner our first night and only afterwards did we realize there was no dishwasher - I know, it's a cabin! And neither of us are strangers to hand-washing dishes. However, in the name of staying true to a vacation I recommend a dishwasher down the line.
Honestly though, these are minor, perhaps petty, quibbles. Goldena's is a spacious, comfy and clean place to call home during a Southern Utah vacation - you'll be happy you stayed here!
