We love our home in South Carolina! Having family nearby, we share meals and good times together. We live in San Francisco, also a beautiful place, but when we go to our So. Carolina home, we simply feel the stress of the everyday life melt away no matter what time of year. We have spent all the seasons and all are equally beautiful. We love beach combing, meeting and sharing a meal with our neighbors and lazing on the decks with a good book in the heat of the day. Family members visit and we take in the local catch of the day - the shrimp, clams, oysters and crab that our brother-in-law catches himself! We want you to enjoy our home as much as we do.
Debra Varner purchased this house in 2004
We have family and friends in No. and So. Carolina and Florida. We knew we needed to have our own home to share with them. We were fortunate to find this special place that brings such joy, and we are delighted to share with our guests.
We love the food, beaches, shopping, neighbors and quiet that makes us feel rejuvenated at the end of a stay.
"We stayed in this house for a week and did not want to leave! We had everything we needed for a peaceful and relaxing vacation. Thanks so much for the pet friendly home, it is great to be able to bring our dogs because they are a part of the family. We enjoyed Hunting Beach and trips into Beaufort. We do plan to return next year."
We had another wonderful week at Las Brisas! The star gazing from the Crow's Nest was just incredible as where the walks on the beach. A great spot with everything you need for a relaxing getaway. We'll be back!
Coffe pot had grounds molded in pot, really dusty. Sheets and towels smelled like cheap perfume. Had to go buy linens.needs a hard cleaning.
This cottage is all as it is advertised to be- well constructed, beautiful location, well furnished. a great place to relax and get-away from it all. The owner, Debra, promptly responded to a small problem we encountered and was very pleasant and courteous. The only drawback to our visit was that the nearby state park had been closed due to the recent hurricane.
There were four of us adults who stayed for a week over thanksgiving. For us it was a perfect location as we wanted to hike, bike and kayak...and did. The house itself was wonderfully accommodating: The kitchen well supplied , plenty of places to gather together (we hosted guests) or just wander off to read by oneself. We greeted sunrise and sunset every day on the upper deck where you could observe the marsh, the sound, the ocean and the tree canopy..filled with birds. Sadly, the hurricane had reeked havoc with island trees but our house was relatively untouched. . We hope to be there next year to continue our coastal thanksgiving ritual which we began 35 years ago on Hunting Island.
We had a very relaxing and enjoyable getaway with our two pups to this cozy end-of- the-road retreat. Debra has made sure that it has everything you need for a comfortable hazzle free vacation. The porches and crows nest were great places to kick back and relax. We'll definitely be back for a return visit.

What a great trip! My family and I had an amazing time staying at las Brisas. This property was close to all the local attractions and also secluded and very private. If your goal is to find a hideaway and enjoy beach combing, watching the wildlife or the stars, this place is for you. To start it is roomy enough for my family of 8. We actually had more room available. It could sleep ten easily. It has an amazing three tiered deck with the top deck on the roof. The top deck has views of the marshes, ocean, and spectacular views of the night sky. We spent each night on the top deck star gazing and enjoying the ocean breeze. The property is large, plenty of parking for several cars or a boat if you have one. Enough room to back a large boat up and turn it around with a little skill. The house is foot steps from the marsh where you can walk out and be surrounded by a million crabs and oysters. The owners thought of everything. More than enough plates, knives, forks, Tupperware etc. I'm not talking about the old stuff that should have been taken to goodwill but kitchen items and appliances that are nicer than what you may have in your own house. The home comes equipped with a large brand new gas grill that does not need a propane tank, but is plumbed directly to the homes gas line...one less thing you need to think about. Every window in the house has a great view. The beds are comfortable and there is ample organized bedding and lots of towels. There are new washer and dryer units as well if you have messy kids like mine. The owners also supply a year round pass to hunting island state park which is a ten minute drive away. This was a savings of over $100 for my trip alone. Thank you so much Mrs. and Mr. Varner for the use of your amazing home. I hope we left it in adequate shape and cleaned appropriately prior to our leaving. We fully intend on staying here again in the future if the Varners will have us. One additional note, you have to pack your trash out, so make sure you plan for that if you leave when the solid waste convienience center is not open. The lack of trash pick up is a little confusing. Other than that one of the best vacations I've ever had.
Just a five-minute walk to the beach where you can dig clams, and oyster banks are plentiful. Swimming, kayaking, crabbing, fishing and strolling amongst the oaks are some of the ways you can enjoy the quiet life in the lowcountry. Explore St. Helena Island, Coffin Point Plantation, nearby Penn Center Museum and enjoy the local cuisine at the Shrimp Shack, Johnson Creek Restaurant/Bar on Harbor Island and Boondocks Restaurant just a short drive away. The scenery inspires you to slow down and enjoy the warm breezes during spring, summer and fall. You will have the pristine beaches to yourself during winter when it can be warm and clear. Hunting Island State Park and Lighthouse is just a 10-minute drive. After a few hours at the State Park, a visit to Beaufort, or a trip to Savannah, Hilton Head or Charleston, you will be happy to return to your quiet retreat. This is also the perfect place to read, write, paint or bird watching. It also offers the best stargazing for your evening enjoyment all year long.
