Ironman race base: good choice - location, parking highlights, general cleanliness could improve

  • 4 of 5

Two weeks for IM Hawaii race. I can recommend this place to other IM racers. It's not easy to book anything for that period so was happy to get this one quite close to race village and start. Rooms as expected (enough space for bike and bike stuff), kitchen very well furnished (was not expected). Pretty much everything was solid. Only exception was washing machine which we did not dare to use given corrosions&overall not appealing look.

Fantastic !

We want to thank Marty and Paulette Moran for a fantastic stay at their condo. The location could not have been better. We found it very quiet and comfortable. Our trip to the big island was our first and it won't be our last.

Beautiful setting.

  • 5 of 5

The condo was well equipped and was lovely to come home to, after a day out, exploring the Island. The pool was beautiful to swim in. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Kona and coming there, from N.Z.s Winter, was wonderful.

Great location - close to town and beach.

  • 5 of 5

The condo had everything we needed! Loved the location and the well stocked kitchen. Made use of cooler and tupperware for lunch on way up to Mauna Kea. Towels and chairs were great for beach. Beach was so close! Sunsets were beautiful to watch from there. Also local boogie boarders! Only negative was that there was a slight musty mildewy smell upon entering, but we got used to it. Running AC for awhile took care of that. Since its a basement condo, some odor may be expected, and being able to walk directly from the lanai to the beach more than makes up for it. Condo also has pool and hot tub, which was a nice way to end the day.

Beautiful ocean front condo thoughtfully furnished with everything you would need. Watch the waves!

  • 5 of 5

Marty and Paulette were the perfect hosts and their condo is beautifuly situated for beach access, views, privacy and an easy walk to restaurants and activities. We loved the comfortable bed and utilized the fully stocked kitchen. Honestly in all our travels, we have never stayed anywhere that had everything we needed ready for us to use, from kitchen wrap to cooking oil, it was there and perfectly organized. They even provided champaign glasses for our traditional final night sunset toast. All the beach accessories and tourist info are available. The Lanai has a glorious ocean view, but remains shaded throughout the day which is a Huge plus. The sand beach (a rarity in Hawaii) has ample shade from palm trees as well as sunny patches for drying off. We really enjoyed snorkeling among the tropical reef fish and listening to the singing rocks when a larger wave came in. Schools of spinner dolphins visited every morning just beyond the point. Bring binoculars and watch them play. One morning We awakened to find a cruise ship anchored Less than a mile out with tenders going back and forth. It was gone by sunset. thin

Some thins. We really enjoyed were: driving to Mountain Thunder coffee plantation for a tour and tasting for an easy first day activity, the next day driving to the Hilo side of the island over the saddle road to see rainbow falls, akaka falls, the boiling pots, the botanical garden and finally driving home by way of the Waipi'o valley lookout, another day we drove to Volcano National Park hiked all around, left at 5 to drive to the end of Hwy 130 rented bikes and finally hiked a bit across an old lava flow to see the fresh lava flow into the ocean at sunset - beautiful!
