About Steve Young
I grew up in Southern Illinois, and could not wait to 'Get Out,' 'Escape,' and go to the big city. I went to school in Chicago at the Illinois Institute of Technology, and left Southern Illinois far behind. I thought this was great. I had a very successful career in the online advertising, marketing, and market research world catering to big pharma. In a normal year I would fly 125,000 miles and see many places, countries and sites. As I grew older and my 'success' continued I felt more and more that something was missing. I began to yearn for the hills of Southern Illinois, the slower pace of life, and the people I left behind more and more. I 2013, I came home for a few weeks to help my mother move my father into a nursing home. After this was completed I flew to Milan for business, and on my way back I received a call that my mother had had a stroke. This was a life changing event for me, and I never really went home. My father spent the year getting worse, and my Mother spent the year getting better. When my father died in December of 2013, I decided to 'officially' move to Southern Illinois in order to spend more time with my mother and be closer with family. I also made the decision to leave the company I worked for and do something simpler, and local to Southern Illinois. June 1st, 2014 I started my company with the goal to create vacation rental homes in Southern Illinois and help the area grow tourism. Southern Illinois is a beautiful and special place, and I would like to share it with as many people as possible. Steve Young purchased this cabin in 2014

Why Steve Young chose Makanda
This property was an old Bed and Breakfast, and the view was spectacular. The property was foreclosed on and a friend that I went to high school with had purchased it and remodeled the main house. Once I purchased it I started refurbishing the guesthouse. Now that it is completed I think it is one of the nicest properties on the wine trail. The property will sleep a maximum of 16 people, or can be rented to separate parties in the main house and guesthouse.
What makes this House unique
The proximity to wineries, and area attractions is also great for this property.

Beautiful place to stay and a great location!!
We booked both properties for our annual Girls Wine Weekend...13th year!! The location was perfect...close to our favorite wineries. The cabins were spacious, very nicely done and has great decks that overlook the countryside. We had a great stay and would recommend it to anyone!!
Thanks for the 5 star review. I would love to have you back some time!
We found the property to be very comfortable with quality furniture, updated facilities, very well equipped kitchens and bathrooms, lots of towels, DVDs available, welcome snacks, etc. We rented both the main house and guest house. We would have preferred to have all been under one roof, but with different sleep habits and smaller children it did allow for one home to be more kid friendly and one to be more adult friendly when it came to lights out. Very close to some very nice wineries. Nice areas for yard games and campfires. Loved the deck areas and back porches. It was easy to find and while we did have neighbors that were pretty close and a few views that were not the best, we had some super views as well and spent a lot of time outside. Very few negatives.
The insides of the gas grills are pretty shot and need replaced. The beds were very clean and sheets and spreads are very nice, but a few of the mattresses are a bit saggy for my liking. In the big picture, those things are minor considering the length of our stay. We had eight adults in our group and we all agreed that all things considered, it was an awesome place and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
Thank you so much for the review and I am glad you had a wonderful time. I will be replacing the grills this year at all of my properties as those are subject to wear and tear. As for the beds, I always put a variety of beds in each house. IN the main house I think I have a firm, soft, and a memory foam mattress. For future guest check all the beds to see which one is to your liking!
Great Property .
Big group, everyone in our group liked the Property and enjoyed our stay .
I am so glad your group enjoyed!
Beautiful secluded location!
This place was fantastic for our group. We are a group of ten people that take a summer trip together on our Harley's every year. We decided to explore Southern Illinois this year and discovered this B & B on Homeaway. We could not have been more pleased with the location and the condition of the property. Especially the two bedroom cabin, it is incredible. Each bedroom has a hot tub and is set up like a typical hotel room suite. The location is ten miles from Anna which has a Walmart, restaurants, gas stations and many other stores. Would definitely stay there again if in that area and needing that much space. The owner of this property is also great to deal with! Both the house and the cabin are well stocked with all the amenities you need for as long as you want to stay.
Nice and secluded
