About Steve Young
I grew up in Southern Illinois, and could not wait to 'Get Out,' 'Escape,' and go to the big city. I went to school in Chicago at the Illinois Institute of Technology, and left Southern Illinois far behind. I thought this was great. I had a very successful career in the online advertising, marketing, and market research world catering to big pharma. In a normal year I would fly 125,000 miles and see many places, countries and sites. As I grew older and my 'success' continued I felt more and more that something was missing. I began to yearn for the hills of Southern Illinois, the slower pace of life, and the people I left behind more and more. I 2013, I came home for a few weeks to help my mother move my father into a nursing home. After this was completed I flew to Milan for business, and on my way back I received a call that my mother had had a stroke. This was a life changing event for me, and I never really went home. My father spent the year getting worse, and my Mother spent the year getting better. When my father died in December of 2013, I decided to 'officially' move to Southern Illinois in order to spend more time with my mother and be closer with family. I also made the decision to leave the company I worked for and do something simpler, and local to Southern Illinois. June 1st, 2014 I started my company with the goal to create vacation rental homes in Southern Illinois and help the area grow tourism. Southern Illinois is a beautiful and special place, and I would like to share it with as many people as possible.
Steve Young purchased this Cabin in 2014
Why Steve Young chose Makanda
This property was an old Bed and Breakfast, and the view was spectacular. The property was foreclosed on and a friend that I went to high school with had purchased it and remodeled the main house. Once I purchased it I started refurbishing the guesthouse. Now that it is completed I think it is one of the nicest properties on the wine trail. The property will sleep a maximum of 16 people, or can be rented to separate parties in the main house and guesthouse.
What makes this Cabin unique
The proximity to wineries, and area attractions is also great for this property.

Wonderful weekend in southern Illinois
The weekend was just perfect. There were two adults and an 8 and 10 year old. We loved the property and the gorgeous surrounding landscape. The beds were comfortable, the kitchen was fully loaded with everything you’d need, and the whole cabin set up was just perfect for our stay. I’m already looking to the calendar to see when we can visit again. I highly recommend this property if you are planning to visit the area.
I am always happy to hear that my guests enjoyed themselves. I look forward to having you again.
Great weekend trip
The cabin is beautiful and spotless clean, had plenty of towels and linens.
Thank you so much for the good review. I hope you really enjoyed yourselves!
Beautiful cabin, well equipped in convenient location
This cabin has been remodeled into a beautiful getaway rental. It has all the amenities one needs to relax and enjoy and even cook.
One can access so many of the areas offerings in a short drive
We took in the state parks on our visit. Also visited some of the wineries. The cabin is right on the trail.
The owner is very responsive and easy to coordinate your visit. We had a wonderful stay.
I am always happy to hear when my guests had a good time. Southern Illinois is beautiful and a great place to explore!
Great place to stay!
Extra clean and comfortable. The decor was super cute. The cabin had everything we needed! Would definitely stay again! The kids really enjoyed watching the deer walking in the backyard. The view of the valley was spectacular :)
I am so glad you enjoyed your stay. My cleaning ladies work extra hard to make sure all guests are happy and I will share your comments with them. Hope to have you back some day!
Cozy cabin snuggled in on the wine trail
Steve Young has done a fabulous job with this cabin. Its quaint and cozy and perfect. Upon entering the cabin we were blown away at how wonderful this place is. The pictures really dont speak for how awesome it is. We stayed 4 days and made use of lots he had available in the kitchen. Well stocked with kitchen gadgets and appliances for everything you need. The hot tub was great. We utilized the grill one day and even enjoyed a bon fire. It was the perfect getaway and we couldn't have been happier. We will definitely return to this property.
So glad you enjoyed your stay. I would love to host you again, and if there is anything ever missing in my cabins let me know so i can add it to my to do list.
This cabin was a wonderful place to stay while we spent the weekend touring the Shawnee Hills Wine Trail. It was conveniently located to lots of wineries but on a nice quiet road. The cabin was beautiful with comfy beds, two large walk in showers, and two jetted bathtubs. The rental process was easy and the owner was easy to contact and very helpful. I would definitely be happy to stay there again.
I am so glad you enjoyed both the cabin and the area. I hope to have you back someday!
