My wife and I spent a holiday of a life-time at Villa Mattia. The home was extremely comfortable, peaceful, and immaculately kept. The views of rolling hills dense with grape vines were breath-taking, and a peaceful backdrop to the many mornings and evenings spent on the spacious back porch. Cristina and her family were wonderfully gracious hosts. Especially memorable for us, was a tour of the family’s vineyard led by Cristina’s Father. Through speaking with the Father, with the help of a very proficient translator, we learned many subtleties of winemaking today and in the past, which deepened our understanding and exploration of the region. We highly recommend a stay at Villa Mattia, either as a couple or family, and hope to return in the near future.
We´ve loved this place. Begining with the incredible view, it´s wonderful to have a great dinner in this porch. All the house it´s very spacious, the kitchen is full of amenities, and Cristina and Family make us to feel among friends. We recommended Villa Mattia of sure. I hope to came back soon.
This was my family's first trip to Italy and we couldn't have chosen a more beautiful first house to stay in. We drove from Turin where my son was staying the week at camp with Juventus and as we arrived in Santo Stefano Belbo the sun was beginning to set. Our eyes were filled with wonder at the beauty of the rolling hills and rows and rows of grapes. We really had no idea how dramatic the landscape would be. As we proceeded up the steep winding hill we were greeted at the top with this sturdy stone/stucco house. The bedrooms were comfortable, the bathrooms clean with hot water. We loved opening the windows wide at night and welcoming in the fresh air. The view in the morning was stunning and inspriational and our family took long walks through the vineyards. Definitely an artist's paradise. The owner was so sweet and accomodating and local - which eased our mind having been the first time to use Homeaway to travel to a foreign country. I can't wait to return.
Right in the heart of Langhe, top of the hill there is this beautiful villa. The house is very well kept; sunny peacefull garden and really stunning views over the vineyeards! In the near neighborhood there is several charming villages and small towns to visit. The owner has great wineyard and small local history museum in there you can visit upon request. In Canelli you'll find also swimming club you can ask access from the owner. The food and wine in Piemonte is just amazing - and good reason to visit the area!
Highly recommended! (Visitor 2011)
We spent a relaxing week at Villa Mattia. The house is located on a beautiful and remote hill about 2km from the center of the Santo Stefano Belbo, so you don't have to worry about the neighbors. Because of the location a car is required.
This house offers you a great surroundings for a independent holiday. You can find everything you need from the house and there is a lot to see within a one hour range by car from Santo Stefano Belbo. Basic super market items can be found from Santo Stefano Belbo and Canelli (about 7 km from the house).
There is plenty of room in the house for a large family and the place suits for everyone who's interested to spend a holiday close to the nature. I highly recommended this one! I will definitely return to Villa Mattia in the future.
After a week staying in various campsites en route, it was such a delight to arrive at Villa Mattia and enjoy complete peace and quiet! The panoramic views of rolling vineyards from the back garden were quite breathtaking and it was such a pleasure to drink them in, whether first thing in the morning, in the lazy warmth of the afternoon or last thing at night.
This two-bedroom house was furnished to a high standard and was comfortable but not too fussy (which was great for us, as we stayed with our three children and pet dog and did not want too many valuable antiques to worry about damaging!). We drove to the coast on my daughter’s birthday, which took about an hour, and the girls thoroughly enjoyed swimming in the warm Mediterranean and eating delicious seafood.
Public transport was non-existent and we were unable to rent a car, as the area shuts down for its annual holiday when we were staying, so we relied on bicycle and our campervan to get around. This did limit us a bit, but we still managed to see some delightful local spots, including Aqui Terme (where we swam in the most enormous swimming pool we have ever seen!).
Christina was a very attentive hostess, despite the fact she was bed-ridden with a bad back the whole time we were there! She very conscientiously tried to answer our enquiries and kept in regular contact over the phone. We look forward to finally meeting her when we return this year!
The house is located in Langhe region, near Barolo and Barbaresco area.
The main town near the house is Alba famous for the white truffle festival. You can taste the most important wines of the region. Here we produce Barolo, Barbaresco, Moscato D'Asti and Barbera D'asti. The nearest town is Canelli famous for its wines and its 'underground cathedrals' heritage of UNESCO. Not far from the area there are famous sky places such us Sestriere or Bardonecchia and see places such as Savona or Portofino.
