Private luxury wifi complex situated on the edge of Vrbanj village, at the foot of the mountains but only 3km from the sea. Old stone animal houses have been converted into three comfortable, self contained cottages. Each cottage is completely separate and has own kitchen, shower room, bedroom and living area. Each cottage can be rented individually or all together for a group of up to eleven. The cottages surround a private courtyard with steps up to a stunning swimming pool which gets sunshine all day. Romantic package available. Welcome package including wine and basic groceries. Collection from the local port is included in the cost. British proprietors live on site to assist with any of your needs or problems. Cot rental available and no charge for children ten or under.
The Quaich is ideal for either couples or maybe an 'extended' family holiday as you can share the facilities during the day but retire to the privacy of your own cottage at the end of the day.
Great for families or couples: Many couples who have stayed with us have loved the idea of returning with maybe their parents, or a larger family group. As all three cottages open out on to the communal courtyard this is great for families to get together for a meal or drinks but at the same time they have their own private cottage to return to at the end of the day.
Local attractions: There are so many beaches close by you will be spoiled for choice. We have drawn up a list of our favourites so you will have an idea where to go. Snorkeling and diving are very popular and we can arrange sailing, sea kayaking, rock climbing etc for you.
If you would like to hire a car, scooter or bicycle we can put you in touch with a reliable agency.
Jelsa is our closest town, with many cafes and restaurants as well as a nightclub. Plenty ATM's and supermarkets too and a medical centre.
Stari Grad is a wonderfully historic old town to visit and is only 6km from us.
When the sun goes down you may like to visit Hvar (party) Town and enjoy cocktails at the famous Carpe Diem or watch the sun go down to the champagne corks popping in the Hula Bar.
Getting here: The closest airport to Hvar is Split although flights do also come into Dubrovnik and Zadar.
From Split airport it is a 30 minute taxi drive to the ferry port and then a 2 hour crossing on one of the many daily ferries to Stari Grad on Hvar. There is also a daily catamaran to Jelsa and now from 2015 European Coastal Airlines have introduced a sea plane from Split airport to Jelsa. You will be in the air for only 13 minutes!
Once on the island we will collect you at the port and take you the short 15 minute drive to The Quaich where a cool beer will be waiting for you.
My husband, Mick and I, bought The Quaich as a ruin back in 2005 and after much hard work and many trips back and forth from Brighton in UK with the majority of our furniture etc, we opened our doors to guests in summer 2008. The project turned out to be much more demanding than we first thought but with help from family and friends we have turned the ruin into a luxury home that we absolutely love and during the summer months share with our guests. Our life on the island is very different from back in the UK where Mick managed his own glazing company and I was a financial administrator. We still have a base back in Brighton and return there in the winter to see the kids.
Christine Connor purchased this cottage in 2005
We chose to buy a property on Hvar mainly because it reminded me so much of Scotland with the mountains and pine forests everywhere and in addition the wonderful climate. In the spring the island is covered with wild stocks and freesia and the smells of rosemary linger. Vrbanj is a small mountain village away from the main road but not too far away from the nearest towns of Jelsa and Stari Grad. The sea is only 3km away and there are so many places to go swimming we are spoilt for choice. I was brought up in a small Scottish village where everyone knew each other and the old fashioned values such as helping your neighbour was a regular occurrence. Vrbanj is still like this and it's a little like stepping back in time.
As we live on site and run The Quaich ourselves, we are on hand to help with anything our guests might need. We try to provide everything they might need but if anything is missing we are only too happy to make it happen. Our moto is simple luxury and if there is anything we can do to make your holiday more memorable you only have to ask.
There is no charge for children 10 or under. However, we do make a charge of £50 per week to cover additional laundry.
Rates are per cottage and are based on 2 people sharing a cottage. Additional guests accommodated on sofa bed in cottage are charged at £20 each per night (children 10 or under free of charge).
Please note that any bank transfer charges are the responsibility of the guest.
Late springtime was the perfect time for a fair-skinned creature like myself to visit the gorgeous Croatian island of Hvar. With the busy season over, the island felt relaxed and content and the temperature was a very comfortable 22 - 25C throughout our stay. The accommodation is lovely, with much thought gone into convenience and comfort for us guests. The cottages are just as described, with even basic supplies provided for you in a 'welcome pack' upon arrival - something I have never experienced while on a self-catering holiday on the continent before! The welcome pack included. among other useful items, fresh bread, milk and a selection of homemade jams (made by Chris herself I believe) and such, that took care of our breakfasts for our entire stay. Although we did splash-out once for breakfast, which Chris and Mick (the owners) cooked for us at an extra cost and were glad we did. A full English far from home is always a rare treat, especially when it's done properly (there was even black pudding while we were there). But by and far the most useful service that they provide is their 'taxi service'. Mick knows the island like the back of his hand and will take you anywhere you wish to go for a very reasonable price. They can also collect you from the ferry port(s) upon arrival, so if like me and my partner you do not drive, or have not brought a car along, you won't miss out on anything. Mick even came to collect us from Hvar Town at 3am one night, and tolerated our drunken ramblings all the way back to Vrbanj. An excellent holiday and excellent place to stay. Highly recommended, I will be staying there again.
The Quaich is situated at the foot of the mountains in the peaceful village of Vrbanj. 3 separate, self contained cottages surround a communal courtyard and private swimming pool. Our cottages, which are converted animal houses, are fitted to a very high standard yet also keeping their simple charm. Our aim is to provide simple luxury for our guests. The owners, Chris and Mick live on site and will endeavour to fulfil your every need. To enjoy The Quaich to it's full advantage we recommend car hire during your stay but several of the nearby towns and villages are within walking distance and cycling is very popular on the island. We are 5kms from the local ferry port of Stari Grad, 3kms from Jelsa and 22 kms from Hvar town. There are many restaurants close by and a couple of bars and restaurants in Vrbanj itself. We offer a Romantic package also in our most luxurious cottage and the cost includes several 'extras'.
