About the property

Relaxation and Fun!

Plan your perfect getaway here, in Elk Neck, approximately eight miles south of the town of North East, MD.

We have a unique property here, along the Elk River, set back in a quiet cove, with creeks on each side and a beautiful view of the River.

Watch the Eagles and Osprey soaring above the creek looking for their next meal! There are also plenty of Blue Heron, Geese, and Ducks. In the evenings, you may see deer playing along the shoreline.

The home is completely furnished and includes a fully-stocked kitchen- you just need to bring the food!

We have all the linens and towels you will need and plenty of blankets and pillows, too, and all beds are freshly made in time for your arrival, so you don't need to do a thing!

We love our Guests and I just want to say a huge "Thank You!!" to everyone who has chosen to stay here at The Woods and thank you for all of your Guestbook entries and Online Reviews (and if you never got around to leaving one here, it's never too late!). You all are so awesome!!! As you all know, Gene and Steve and I, work so hard here and it has been such a blessing to have had such wonderful Guests who treat our home as their own and to just see how much fun you have here, is just the best and makes all of our hard work so worth it!! And, incase any of you are reading this, the bridge is finally fixed and it's great!! Now it will be so much faster to get to Turkey Point for that beautiful walk to the Lighthouse!

Thank you for checking out my page! Can't wait to meet you!

About Kim

Hello! :) I'm Kim and I am married to Steve. I own this rental property with my brother, Gene.

Steve and I have 4 kids; ages 28, 23, 21, and 16. Steve is a Systems Engineer, who runs his own business, plus has a part-time job as well in computers. In his "spare" time, he keeps the books (QuickBooks!) for our vacation properties and also mows a lot of grass & cleans all the propane grills between Guests!!!! I manage our vacation homes, doing the advertising & marketing (updating this site, taking photos, keeping track of bookings). I do all the cleaning (tons of laundry, bed-making & bathroom cleaning!), furnishing & decorating, and keeping up with all the paperwork and paying all the bills on time. My most important job is communicating with our amazing Guests through texts, emails and phone calls; I guide them in planning their vacation and promptly answer any questions, and on arrival day, we greet our Guests and show them around the property (their house, the river & kayaks), ensuring they feel "at home" at their "home away from home". We have been told our hospitality is "second to none", which is the highest compliment, and I know it is because we truly love what we do and when you love what you do, it shows!! In our spare time, we love kayaking on the Elk River. When we get a day away, we love a trip to Rehoboth Beach!

Gene is a super-hard worker, both with his own Masonry business (working 6 & 7 days a week) and here on the property in his "spare" time. He is the one who takes care of the dirt lane and all the maintenance work around here, for the property itself plus all the homes. This is a huge job and he's on top of it! He has one son who is 22. Gene enjoys being on the water in his bass boat. He also loves deep-sea fishing and traveling to Chincoteague Island.

Kim purchased this house in 2012

Why Kim chose Chesapeake Bay

Our Great-Grandfather bought this property because it was his favorite fishing spot! This beautiful property has been in our family since 1918 when our Grandfather moved here from NY with his parents; he was 5 years old. He grew up here, then our Dad grew up here, and then Gene and I grew up and now our own kids have grown up here!

When we were growing up, our Grandparents rented the property for summer rentals and those are our favorite childhood memories, so we are so excited to be bringing that back! We love sharing this unique little cove along the Elk River- it is unique as there is not quite anywhere like it that I have seen! It is truly special!

What makes this house unique

Kayaking... just being out on the water, especially on a quiet evening, watching the Bald Eagles fly overhead, Osprey hovering mid-air and then diving down to grab a fish from the water, seeing the families of Geese and Mallards, Blue Heron and once in awhile a white one, lots of different birds, fish jumping, gentle waves, a warm breeze, maybe deer playing, or fox, or raccoon walking along the shoreline... this is why I love this property. It is so peaceful and serene - good for the mind and the soul!!

Great Place for a Family with Young Children

  • 5 of 5

With young children, this was a great secluded place to stay with a backyard view of the river and access to paddle boats and kayaks. We loved it. And the owner, Kim, put a lot of thought into making our stay a welcoming and pleasant experience.

Great getaway!

  • 5 of 5

Not even rain could dampen this trip! Kim and Steve are amazing and thoughtful hosts. It was my birthday and they greeted me birthday goodies. Their home had everything we needed for cooking and was extremely comfortable. The surrounding area was beautiful and serene. We had a half day break in the weather which allowed us to get out in the kayaks. It was great to see bald eagles soaring overhead and get out on the water! Thank you for everything!

Fantastic Trip

  • 5 of 5

A group of 3 of us were in town for a week fishing the Upper Chesapeake Bay.

The property was set back in the woods in a very tranquil setting, and Kim and Steve made sure that we had everything we need.

Will be back in the future for sure!

Peaceful Getaway

  • 5 of 5

This is our third time staying at Kim's place. Kim always makes us feel welcome and pampered. This cute house is very clean and comfortable. The views are amazing! We used the grill this time and it is awesome! Steve keeps it spotless. The best part for me is that you don't have to bring linens. Kim keeps the kitchen nicely stocked with essentials. Kim, thank you so much for everything. We really appreciate all of your special touches.

Clean, central location to Baltimore and Philadelphia

  • 4 of 5

Very nice home. Kim is very friendly and helpful. she had cookies and wine for us when we arrived. Quick response to all communications. a storm blew through and took out the power and as soon as she knew the power was out, she had somebody working on it. I was impressed with how fast she got it repaired. Be aware that the road is a private drive that is unpaved. The town of North East is a beautiful little tourist town with plenty of dining options and plenty of little shops to explore and a great park to walk in. The only downside was the inability to get to the water from the property. You have to continue down the drive to get access to the water as the shore in front of the home is overgrown with briars.
