About the property

The Hilltop Site includes a one room ‘cabin’ structure and provides a spectacular mountain view from both the outside fire pit area (firewood provided) and from inside the structure which has four large picture windows. To enhance their forest rejuvenation experience, guests may use this ‘cabin’ structure during their rental of this forest site or they may bring their own amenities for use on this site (see Notes in the Rates section below). Relaxation amenities located in the ‘cabin’ structure include a queen-sized bed as well as a full-sized futon. Four cots can also be set-up in the low-ceiling loft (accessible by pull-down stairs). This ‘cabin’ has some electricity and appliances (refrigerator, microwave, toaster oven, hot plate and tv) if the guests would like to use them during their rental of this forest site. Right beside the ‘cabin’ is an outdoor hot shower (towels supplied) and portable toilet (serviced every 2 days). This ‘cabin’ structure is supplied with plates, cups, flatware, cooking utensils, pots, pans, and a coffee pot to enhance your relaxation while renting this site. There is also an outdoor propane grill and utensils for your use.

Our new utility building at the base of the hill has a modern toilet and shower room that is open 24/7 for your use. There are towels, shampoo and body wash which you are welcome to use.

The Hilltop Site is accessible by a 10 - 20 minute walk up an old logging road as no private vehicles are allowed on the retreat property. We do, however, transport your gear by our retreat vehicle upon arrival and at check out.

Very nice private site.

We had a great time at the cabin - It was perfect for a few days of relaxation and to get away from everything. The cabin was clean and had all of the amenities that we needed. Karen was a very gracious hostess and was available if we had any questions. We would stay here again!

Awesome

A great place to get away from it all. Rustic with just enough modern amenities to be comfortable. The owner of the property couldn't have been nicer and more accommodating whatever we needed she provided. Highly recommend this property.

Perfect spot in the Adirondacks. Ideal for 4 people, the house has beautiful views and it is secluded. Everything is provided and is new, and Karen is an incredibly gracious hostess.

We had an amazing stay, and we look forward to going back!

amazing!

  • 5 of 5

The property is beautiful! We stayed in the hilltop cabin, and the view from up there is gorgeous! The picture does not show it, but the back side of the cabin that faces the mountains/valley has several very large windows. The inside of the cabin was very clean and cozy, and much attention has been given to details. There is a fridge, stove, coffee pot, toaster oven, microwave and sink. The fire-pit outside the cabin was perfect! They had boxes of newspaper and kindling, and a large supply of logs. We roasted marshmellows while enjoying the stars and the view! The toilet and shower are attached to the cabin, and you walk outside the length of the cabin to get to them. This could be inconvenient if it was very cold or rainy, but I actually enjoyed the outdoor shower a lot! The owners are very friendly. The land has been in the family for decades, and there are two cabins and several campsites they make available for guests. I got the sense that they cared more about us enjoying the property than about making money. It was the prefect place to recover from a week of backpacking in the Adirondacks. I highly recommend it!

Perfect getaway!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I along with our two dogs wanted to get away and go camping for a few days. We had an amazing time here! Everything was really well thought out, even more than we could imagine! The outdoor kitchen was perfect and had everything we needed. The hiking trails were perfect for our dogs. We checked out the bigger cabin on our hike and plan on going up again with our friends! I would highly recommend the McKinley retreat!

Everything We Hoped For

  • 5 of 5

My girlfriend and I stayed for a long weekend in the Hill Top Cabin and it was simply wonderful. You're given all the privacy in the world and the view is just spectacular. Clear days and starry nights are just stunning. The cabin was rustic, clean, and has electricity. The outhouse and outdoor shower were also very clean and I never thought showering outdoors would ever be that stellar but it was sublime. The walk to the cabin was not difficult but it is, almost obviously, uphill. However, if you are unable to do so, the people there are very helpful and are happy to accommodate. There are plenty of trails onsite if you are looking to get some exercise as well! If you are looking for something off the beaten trail, the serenity of seclusion and the great outdoors in it's purest form, this place is for you.
