Overview

Echo Lake Cabin Rental Photos and Description

House, 2 Bedrooms + Loft + Den, 1.5 Baths, (Sleeps 4-6)

A quintessential Maine retreat, filled with the natural beauty of wood and sunlight and all the comforts you desire. Enjoy your coffee on the deck, breakfast on the screen porch, and a dip into David Pond any time you like just a short walk down the road. Experience the beauty of a mature perennial garden with its lush colored flowers, birds, and butterflies. Treat yourself to true quiet, true darkness, and stars so bright you feel that you can almost touch them.

This beautiful log cabin sits on four wooded acres surrounded by hundreds more, with lakes in every direction. Sunlight streams into the gracious main floor through large, trapezoidal windows above and two sliders out onto the generous wrap-around deck, where your hot tub awaits. The living area is open concept, kitchen-dining-living, with a majestic cathedral ceiling and an adjacent furnished screen porch. Also on the main floor is a bedroom with a double bed, the main bathroom, and a flat screen TV.

Upstairs in the master bedroom, wake up in your comfy queen bed and catch the sunrise through the upper windows. Enjoy your own half-bath, sitting room with loveseat that opens into a single bed, and plenty of room for a pack 'n' play if needed. A high chair and various other baby items are available upon your request. All closets and dressers are fully available for your use throughout the house.

On the lower level, but still above ground, is a large family room (or third bedroom) with a double futon, 32' flat screen TV, and spa quality treadmill. From there, a doorway to the outside takes you to the front lawn on the right, or to the outdoor shower with a freshly constructed wooden privacy screen on the left. If you have never taken a shower under the sky, you are in for a treat. Of course, there is a shower inside as well!

From the house, you can walk, mountain bike, snowshoe, or cross country ski through a beautiful conservation area forest to Basin Pond and beyond. Nearby are many established and maintained, well-marked hiking trails, mountains to climb, golf courses, lakes for boating, and even a wild animal park. You will enjoy the sense of peace and seclusion while knowing that you can still hop in the car and go out to a great coffee spot, if you wish. The Olde Post Office Cafe is only a 10 minute drive north in quaint Mount Vernon village, written up in DownEast Magazine.

Extensive shopping is available at two Augusta exits from I-95, exits 109 and 112 (25 minutes away) as well as a vast array of restaurants and an award-winning health club and spa. Freeport, home of L.L. Bean and a host of other outlet stores, is 45 minutes south. A trip to the coast, or to Portland, or to Sugarloaf Ski Area takes less than 90 minutes. Bar Harbor, Acadia National Park, and Baxter State Park are a bit farther but worth the ride.

You will emerge from this vacation rested and refreshed, having seen stars brighter than you can remember. You will leave the state understanding the highway sign slogan at the border that reads, 'Maine, worth a visit, worth a lifetime.'

Keywords: Beautiful log home, nestled between the charming villages of Kents Hill and Mount Vernon, lake access on pristine David Pond, just south of Parker Pond and west of Echo Lake, near Kents Hill School, Camp Laurel, and the Belgrade Lakes.

About Kathleen Jameson

I moved to Maine in 2003 in the spirit of simplifying my life, and I have never looked back. I left a high powered position with many employees and a lot of stress, and embraced the Maine people, places, and lifestyle. Maine has one of the lowest crime rates in the nation (the lowest of all for violent crime), people are honest and hard working, and we all seem to value the beauty of our natural surroundings. There is a lot of culture to be found, and plenty of fun outdoors, to be sure. My husband is a retired scientist now editing scientific journal articles, and I work now in higher education. Grandchildren have suddenly become a big part of our lives! We look forward to sharing our getaway with you, as we have moved nearby into our permanent retirement home but cannot let this log home go just yet. We hope that you will enjoy it as much as we have!

Why Kathleen Jameson chose Echo Lake

I love log homes, and we have actually owned three of them over the years. This one is the most striking because it faces due South and the light is amazing. It has passive solar benefits and just has a great feel. Because it is not all tongue-and-groove inside -- the ceiling and some of the walls are white or other colors -- it is not dark like some log cabins. The angle of the sun was calculated well, since the light streams into the living area in winter and warms the house, but in summer it hits the roof so that it does not overheat the house. It has great cross ventilation with the windows open and is quite comfortable in the summer.

What makes this cabin unique

We love the true silence, the sighting of animals, and the stars. I always enjoyed going into the hot tub before bed or when first rising to enjoy the peacefulness of the morning or the stars late at night. We enjoy the opportunities there for outdoor activities of all kinds.

Wonderful Log Cabin

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at the log cabin to be able to spend some time with our college age daughter on her days off from a nearby summer camp where she is a counselor.

To say we were impressed is an understatement! Kathie has done an amazing job with this cabin from its immaculate appearance to the charm of the decor. A real treat tucked away in the Maine

woods. It felt so cozy and home like.

We took several day trips to explore the beauty of Maine and always felt relaxed pulling up at the end of the day.

It was very close to the camp where my daughter works so it was perfect to meet her during her times off.

All in all, we loved the log cabin and would love to stay again. Kathie is a wonderful person who emailed promptly with great information about the area and answers to any questions I had.

Everything was perfect and homey and in perfect working order! Thank you for a wonderful stay in the great state of Maine!

Perfect Getaway!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Kathie's place for a weekend in November. When we pulled up, we were blown away by how beautiful the place was. Kathie was nice enough to make sure that when we arrived (after dark), the lights were on in the house and we could easily make our way inside. The house was warm and welcoming and we were so excited to check out all the space. It's exactly what we wanted for a little getaway weekend and had everything you may need right inside. The decor is perfect and the bathrooms are spacious (as is the rest of the house)! We got to bring our two small pups and they enjoyed the place as much as we did. The hot tub was perfect for the two of us and the wrap around deck with gate was perfect for sitting outside with a cup of coffee and the dogs. The house has plenty of outdoor space with two fire pits! We loved that. We also made use of the grill and had a nice dinner in one night. The walk to the lake is a little far but we didn't mind and since it was November, we weren't really staying here for the lake access. The setting was quiet and serene, perfect for unplugging. We didn't want to leave! We would highly recommend this house and we can't wait to come back next year! It was exactly what we wanted and the photos don't do it justice! Perfect host and perfect house!

Relaxing Vacation, as needed!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I and our golden retriever had a wonderful, relaxing vacation here. Just what we needed! The cabin is extremely nice, nicely decorated, comfortable, and accommodating. Hot tub, was very nice, but only got to use it twice, as it was unseasonably warm in this area. So glad we brought light summer clothing. You could get sunburned sitting out on the deck in early afternoon. However, we loved the hiking trail nearby and absolutely loved the lake. We had a continental breakfast at the lake several mornings. Our golden really enjoyed the lake and watching the small fish come up to her! The neighbors as we walked to lake each day were very friendly and helpful. In fact one couple recommended an ice cream place and we fell in love! Glad however it was not too close or we would have eaten too much. Fielder's Choice has the "Best" ice cream we have ever had! Site seeing nearby cities was great and sampled apples etc. in nearby Orchard with retail store, and also found a wonderful store in Hallowell to buy lobster, scallops, etc. All in all we had a fabulous time and loved the cabin. Next time we will need to come later in Sept. or first of October to be sure it is not too hot. But still worth it. Thank you again Kathy for having a great cabin.

Could not have asked for anything better

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I spent 5 nights at the Log Home and enjoyed every minute of it. The seclusion was just the thing we needed as we celebrated our 10th anniversary. The deck was a perfect place to sip our coffee and read a book. Although we would have been content just staying at the cabin the entire time, the trail and lake was a great way to spend some time outdoors. We were able to borrow a canoe from a neighbor down the road and get thoroughly immersed in the natural beauty in which we found ourselves. When we ventured away from the woods, we were met with many great people as we went through the list of suggested places to visit left by Kathie. The notes that were left were so detailed and extremely helpful, and when we had questions, Kathie was only a text away. It is obvious she loves this region and wants to share this love with all. There are so many little villages nearby that provide a variety of experiences that are sure to cater to anyone's interests. We really enjoyed going out for breakfast at a nearby cafe called the Olde Post Office Cafe and hitting up a pub called the Liberal Cup. We even had our first full lobster dinner at the Lighthouse Wine and Seafood Market. I would definitely come back and would recommend this to anyone and everyone!

A great week spent in a great place

  • 5 of 5

4 friends and I spent the week, fishing, swimming, sight seeing, drinking, relaxing, exploring, eating and mainly just getting away from city life. The house provided everything we were looking for in a trip. Evenings were spent round the outdoor fire grilling food and having fun. Daytimes were spent enjoying the area, full of natural beauty and friendly people. Would very much recommend this place to anybody. Thanks!

Owner's Response: Thank you, Elliott! So nice of you to take the time to write a response! It was a pleasure having you and your friends. I can only imagine what a complete change the Log Home must be for people who come from the city. I wonder if it is hard to sleep because of all the silence? I am so glad you chose the Log Home, and hope to have you again.

Absolutely Perfect!

  • 5 of 5

We rented this lovely retreat to use a "home base" during graduation weekend at Kents Hill School. The home is secluded (yet within easy access to terrific take-out food!), immaculate, and cozy. Although a charming "log home," it has every modern amenity you might want - from granite counters and modern appliances in the kitchen, to wifi, and a hot tub! Very easy and responsive communication with the owner, Kathie. This home is suitable for adventurous explorer types as well as those seeking a romantic getaway. Many thanks for a wonderful stay! A+++++++
