A quintessential Maine retreat, filled with the natural beauty of wood and sunlight and all the comforts you desire. Enjoy your coffee on the deck, breakfast on the screen porch, and a dip into David Pond any time you like just a short walk down the road. Experience the beauty of a mature perennial garden with its lush colored flowers, birds, and butterflies. Treat yourself to true quiet, true darkness, and stars so bright you feel that you can almost touch them.
This beautiful log cabin sits on four wooded acres surrounded by hundreds more, with lakes in every direction. Sunlight streams into the gracious main floor through large, trapezoidal windows above and two sliders out onto the generous wrap-around deck, where your hot tub awaits. The living area is open concept, kitchen-dining-living, with a majestic cathedral ceiling and an adjacent furnished screen porch/sun room. Also on the main floor is a bedroom with a double bed, the main bathroom, and a flat screen TV.
Upstairs in the master bedroom, wake up in your comfy queen bed and catch the sunrise through the upper windows. Enjoy your own half-bath, sitting room with loveseat that opens into a single bed, and plenty of room for a pack 'n' play if needed. A high chair, crib, toddler bed, and various other baby items are available upon your request. All closets and dressers are fully available for your use throughout the house.
On the lower level, but still above ground, is a large family room (or third bedroom) with a double futon, 32' flat screen TV, and spa quality treadmill. From there, a doorway to the outside takes you to the front lawn on the right, or to the outdoor shower with a wooden privacy screen on the left. If you have never taken a shower under the sky, you are in for a treat. Of course, there is a shower inside as well!
From the house, you can walk, mountain bike, snowshoe, or cross country ski through a beautiful conservation area forest to Basin Pond and beyond. Nearby are many established and maintained, well-marked hiking trails, mountains to climb, golf courses, lakes for boating, and even a wild animal park. You will enjoy the sense of peace and seclusion while knowing that you can still hop in the car and go out to a great coffee spot, if you wish. The Olde Post Office Cafe is only a 10 minute drive north in quaint Mount Vernon village, written up in DownEast Magazine.
Extensive shopping is available at two Augusta exits from I-95, exits 109 and 112 (25 minutes away) as well as a vast array of restaurants and an award-winning health club and spa. Freeport, home of L.L. Bean and a host of other outlet stores, is 45 minutes south. A trip to the coast, or to Portland, or to Sugarloaf Ski Area takes less than 90 minutes. Bar Harbor, Acadia National Park, and Baxter State Park are a bit farther but worth the ride.
You will emerge from this vacation rested and refreshed, having seen stars brighter than you can remember. You will leave the state understanding the highway sign slogan at the border that reads, 'Maine, worth a visit, worth a lifetime.'

I moved to Maine in 2003 in the spirit of simplifying my life, and I have never looked back. I left a high powered position with many employees and a lot of stress, and embraced the Maine people, places, and lifestyle. Maine has one of the lowest crime rates in the nation (the lowest of all for violent crime), people are honest and hard working, and we all seem to value the beauty of our natural surroundings. There is a lot of culture to be found, and plenty of fun outdoors, to be sure. My husband is a retired scientist now editing scientific journal articles, and I work now in higher education. Grandchildren have suddenly become a big part of our lives! We look forward to sharing our getaway with you, as we have moved nearby into our permanent retirement home but cannot let this log home go just yet. We hope that you will enjoy it as much as we have!
Kathleen Jameson purchased this cabin in 2008
I love log homes, and we have actually owned three of them over the years. This one is the most striking because it faces due South and the light is amazing. It has passive solar benefits and just has a great feel. Because it is not all tongue-and-groove inside -- the ceiling and some of the walls are white or other colors -- it is not dark like some log cabins. The angle of the sun was calculated well, since the light streams into the living area in winter and warms the house, but in summer it hits the roof so that it does not overheat the house. It has great cross ventilation with the windows open and is quite comfortable in the summer.
We love the true silence, the sighting of animals, and the stars. I always enjoyed going into the hot tub before bed or when first rising to enjoy the peacefulness of the morning or the stars late at night. We enjoy the opportunities there for outdoor activities of all kinds.
Came here for my husbands birthday, it was one of the most relaxing private getaways we ever been to. The hot tub is a huge plus! kathleen is the most helpful and nicest person !
Everything was great from the hot tub to fireplace. Kathleen had the cabin nice and toasty for our arrival. The area is very private, you can't see any neighbors and you are nicely hidden among the trees for quiet and tranquility. This was our first time in Maine and it was certainly a great experience. Also you can't beat the price for what you get. I hope to visit again soon.
This was the perfect weekend getaway. Not only was the house a perfect size for two couples, a baby, and a dog, but Kathie (the owner) was so communicative and responsive! I emailed her several times with questions prior to our stay, and her replies were always very quick! She was also nice enough to take out a crib and some toys for the baby on our trip, I completely recommend this house for a short getaway--it was beautiful, accessible to nature-activities, and so relaxing (the beds were incredibly comfortable). I can't wait to return!
The cabin was perfect for our weekend getaway. Very well kept and comfortable. The hot tub was amazing, and the kitchen was stocked with spices for our dinners. Can't wait to come back in the summer!
My wife and I recently stayed at Kathleen's mountain log cabin home in Maine. The experience was all we were looking and hoping for - a cozy, clean, amentity filled retreat for us and our dog. Any and all questions we had Kathleen was quick to respond and help us with.
The setting of the home and the surrounding community there in Central Maine made for a perfect trip. The only one that enjoyed the peace and quiet and living room fireplace more than my wife and I was our golden retriever!
We look forward to returning to Kathleen's home again, perhaps this summer! If you are looking for a quiet, relaxing, and romantic getaway with great local cuisine - this is the home to book.
My husband and I spent some time at Kathleen's place after Christmas with our nine month old boy and our Goldendoodle. Kathleen was very responsive, helpful, and kind in all of the correspondence. The home is even better than the pictures and was gorgeous in the snow. It was warm and cozy but very spacious with a well appointed kitchen and plenty of space to lounge and relax. The electric stove as well as the hot tub definitely added to the relaxation. We would love to stay here again and highly recommended it to other couples or families.
Drive to the coast or to the mountains in a little over an hour. Twenty minutes to the world class Belgrade Lakes Golf Course!
