Guestbook comments from the manager

A large villa in calm and very beautiful surroundings, by a gravel road, with a few houses next by, with people you barely see or hear. Relaxing. Best things: This villa is in the middle of nowhere in the country. Perfect location, with around 15 min car ride to a good store, and 30 min to Florence. We enjoyed breakfasts, lunches and dinners on the patio. The pool is great for the 5 children and 4 adults in our company. It has a deep end, and it is clean. There is an excellent pool table by the kitchen for late night games. A lot of space indoors and outdoors gave enough space for all of us. Improvements to make: Dishwasher did not clean well and needs to be replaced. Lightning in kitchen was bad for cooking. Indoor jacuzzi was dirty and we would not have gotten in it. Perhaps they do not clean it during summer when the pool is open. These things were no biggies and had little negative impact. Espresso pod machine was not working, but mocca on the stove with a milk foamer gave excellent cappuccino so this was actually a good thing... The lady taking care of Andrea's house is very friendly, but doesn't speak English. She met us with her daughter Joanna who speaks very good English and gave us her number for any concerns. She answered promptly when we called and was very service minded. Really would recommend wine tasting and a tour at Torre a Cona, within walking distance. Horseriding at Crazy Horse close by. Great food at Ciento Palmi towards Rignano sull'Arno, and even better food and athmosphere at Nuovo Ranch on a hill towards Bagno a Ripoli. This is a place and a location we would recommend to others, and perhaps we will come back one day.

Beautiful rustic property with stunning pool not far from Florence

  • 5 of 5

Andrea was a great host and the villa was fantastic!! Andrea answered all my many many questions about the villa, area and activities. He even helped us with a great breakfast on the first day & really helped me plan the stay for my friends. The actual villa has everything you would need for a fun week in Tuscany... great pool, views, big bedrooms, huge kitchen and dining area and lots of games to play (billiards, table tennis etc) It was perfect!

Another great thing about the location is a vineyard at the end of the road which do cellar tours and really nice selection of foods / wine tasting. There are a couple of local shops and a bus stop that takes you into florence near by.

All in all a fantastic place and very accomodating frienly host in a beautiful part of the world... Would highly recommend staying here!

Fantastic place!

  • 5 of 5

Fantastic place, close enough to Florence for the trip in the city to never be an inconvenience, but far enough away that you get the country-side experience. Lots of amenities (billiard/snooker table, small private soccer court, nice pool). Everything was clean and well organized when we got there. T

Beautiful old villa in the countryside

  • 3 of 5

We were a group of 9 women friends in Italy on holiday. The good: The villa is large and filled with old-world charm. There was plenty of living, sleeping, and outdoor space for our large group. Beds are very firm but very comfortable. Kitchen was well stocked with dishes, pots, etc. The bad: The villa is on an unpaved dirt road; driving was tricky, especially in the rain. It's also in a very remote location so a car is pretty essential. Allow 40 minutes minimum to reach the center of Florence. We had difficulties parking 3 cars; more parking is available down a steep hill at the back of the villa, but this proved challenging in the rain. Inside the house, the bathrooms included two stall showers with handheld sprayers and one tub. We had some issues with the plumbing in general, which can be expected from such a remote location. You can't flush anything down the toilets. Anything. The house did not include a working coffee machine, nor was there any extra toilet paper (we've never had to buy toilet paper at any other rental in any county). The tile surrounding the pool was uneven and difficult to walk on. While we didn't swim, people with children who are considering the house should be cautioned. The house was pretty damp and musty.

Loved the house and location.

  • 5 of 5

We were a group of 9 friends visiting Tuscany. We found Villa Merlaia to be a great location and a roomy and charming house. We had a wonderful time enjoying the terrace and the pool. The location up on the hill is several degrees cooler than Firenze. Best of all getting in to Florence was easy — as soon as you get used to the winding mountain road that leads to it! Bus or car transportation both worked well, especially if you are willing to walk a ways into the center. Andrea the landlord was SO nice! We only wished there were more restaurants nearby.
