About the property

Cabin, 2 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 4)

This charming cabin, 'Deer Run,' is situated on a beautiful, private setting, surrounded by Hemlocks, Mountain Laurel, Rhododendron, and Holly Trees at 3,000 feet on the top of Black Knob Mountain. Located in Pisgah Forest Estates, the cabin is in a private neighborhood, secluded from the main house where the owners live.

It has one bedroom with a queen size bed, a spacious loft with twin beds, two full baths, a great room with a cathedral ceiling and stone fireplace, a fully equipped kitchen, dining area, sunroom, covered back porch, and a stack washer and dryer. About Sandra Whitaker

Thirteen years ago we bought 13 acres of land to build a cabin to vacation in with plans to later build a small retirement home and use the cabin as quest quarters. When we ended up building a larger house than planned, we decided to rent out the cabin.

Don is a retired Cardiologist, and Sandra is a retired teacher. We have hiked this area for over 30 years and knew that we would want to spend the rest of our lives here.

While we genuinely love hiking, Don is passionate about taking pictures of wild flower and nature, and Sandra is very active at Brevard Health & Racquet Club.

It’s great being able to walk out our door with our dogs to so many beautiful trails. There is so much wild life to discover.

Sandra Whitaker purchased this cabin in 2000

Guestbook comments from the owner

Thank you so much for sharing your wonderful cabin with us. We appreciate how all the rooms are immaculate and beautifully appointed. I love the super soft blankets on the beds! We enjoyed the scenery, the musical DVDs, and the kitchen stocked with everything we needed for all our meals. It's hard to leave such a wonderful place.

Perfect little cabin!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed in this cabin for a few days while vacationing in Brevard. The cabin was less than a 10 minute drive from some of the most beautiful waterfalls we had ever seen. It's super secluded! One night it rained for a bit, and the sound it made on the tin roof was like a symphony. The cabin was very clean and comfortable, and the owners of the cabin were very hospitable. We felt right at home.

Even though we're nature freaks and spent most of our time hiking, it was nice to have the town of Brevard within a short driving distance from the cabin. We went out one night for dinner, and the town itself was very charming, with a nice selection of locally owned restaurants. We even saw a white squirrel!

We will absolutely stay at this cabin again the next time we plan a hiking trip!

Thank you so much!

A Perfect Cabin in a Perfect Place

  • 5 of 5

We could not have been more pleased with our week in this cabin. The cabin itself was warm and welcoming from the moment we came up the drive. It is well kept and charming inside and out. Sandra and Bob were very accommodating and helpful on the day we arrived and available if we needed them during our stay, although their home is not visible from the cabin they are just up a short path to the top of the hill. They have 2 lovely golden retrievers who were welcoming to our Border Collie mix.

We enjoyed our stay in every respect. There were nice walks and hikes from the cabin, Dupont Forest Recreation area was only 15 minutes away and Pisgue national forest, with even more miles of scenic trails was only about 20 minutes away . Sandra had provided extensive and helpful hiking and outing suggestions as well as maps and brochures about the area. And yes, it is Waterfall Heaven!

We did not explore Brevard although having been in the area before, we know that it is nice small town with many galleries, shops and restaurants. After a day of hiking we were just happy to stay at home, use the well equipped kitchen and enjoy the forest view with a nice glass of wine on our breezy back porch. We had a truly lovely vacation at Deer Run and hope to return!

We loved our time here. Such a beautiful and peaceful place. The cabin is nicely decorated and very inviting. Love starting with morning coffee on the porch. One official sighting of the white squirrel. Our favorite VRBO place so far. Thank you Sandra for sharing such a lovely place with us. Ron & Jacki, Lexington, sc

We stayed for a week in this prime location. Only need to upgrade cookware and knives., when staying for a week, we cooked all our breakfasts and dinners there, would be nice to have better cookware and knives.

Owner's Response: Thank you for the kind review, and thank you for renting Deer Run a second time. While I have a well stocked kitchen I did see that my two non stick pans needed to be replaced. I therefore replaced the pans and also bought new knives. Thank you for letting me know. Sincerely, Sandra

Awesome Cabin

  • 5 of 5

I stayed with my two teenage daughters for spring break and had a blast! The cabin is perfect - Cozy, Quiet, Peaceful, Beautiful. We were greeted the first day by one of the white squirrels the area is famous for. We used the cabin for a "base" to go hiking, tour the Biltmore, and snow skiing. My girls and I came from Texas and they wanted to play in the snow. It snowed and looked exactly like the pictures! Sandra offered a sled and the girls went sledding. So much fun!! The fireplace is an awesome way to end the day!
