Cabin, 2 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 4)

This charming cabin, 'Deer Run,' is situated on a beautiful, private setting, surrounded by Hemlocks, Mountain Laurel, Rhododendron, and Holly Trees at 3,000 feet on the top of Black Knob Mountain. Located in Pisgah Forest Estates, the cabin is in a private neighborhood, secluded from the main house where the owners live.

It has one bedroom with a queen size bed, a spacious loft with twin beds, two full baths, a great room with a cathedral ceiling and stone fireplace, a fully equipped kitchen, dining area, sunroom, covered back porch, and a stack washer and dryer. Also close is Brevard Music Center, renowned nationwide for its summer musical presentations. The Flat Rock Theatre only 16 miles from our cabin provides an incredible array of plays, musicals, and concerts. About Sandra Whitaker

Thirteen years ago we bought 13 acres of land to build a cabin to vacation in with plans to later build a small retirement home and use the cabin as quest quarters. When we ended up building a larger house than planned, we decided to rent out the cabin.

Don is a retired Cardiologist, and Sandra is a retired teacher. We have hiked this area for over 30 years and knew that we would want to spend the rest of our lives here.

While we genuinely love hiking, Don is passionate about taking pictures of wild flower and nature, and Sandra is very active at Brevard Health & Racquet Club.

It’s great being able to walk out our door with our dogs to so many beautiful trails. There is so much wild life to discover.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Thank you so much for sharing your wonderful cabin with us. We appreciate how all the rooms are immaculate and beautifully appointed. I love the super soft blankets on the beds! We enjoyed the scenery, the musical DVDs, and the kitchen stocked with everything we needed for all our meals. It's hard to leave such a wonderful place.

Perfect little cabin!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed in this cabin for a few days while vacationing in Brevard. The cabin was less than a 10 minute drive from some of the most beautiful waterfalls we had ever seen. It's super secluded! One night it rained for a bit, and the sound it made on the tin roof was like a symphony. The cabin was very clean and comfortable, and the owners of the cabin were very hospitable. We felt right at home.

Even though we're nature freaks and spent most of our time hiking, it was nice to have the town of Brevard within a short driving distance from the cabin. We went out one night for dinner, and the town itself was very charming, with a nice selection of locally owned restaurants. We even saw a white squirrel!

We will absolutely stay at this cabin again the next time we plan a hiking trip!

Thank you so much!

Perfect Mountain Retreat

  • 5 of 5

Sandra is a tremendous hostess. She agreed to let me rent for an extended stay as I took in the local sites and looked for a home in the area. My wife and I enjoyed the peacefulness of the cabin and our daily walks in the woods. Sandra has trail maps for the areas surrounding the cabin. She also recommended places to eat in Brevard which is only a short, 15 min drive away. If you like Yoga, Brevard Yoga has walk-in classes. We made excursions to Pisgah, DuPont and Lake Toxaway taking in several falls that were an easy hike from the designated parking lots.

For those wanting to experience all this area has to offer, this cabin is centrally located and has all the necessary conveniences of WiFi, Direct TV, and fully equipped Kitchen.

You will not be disappointed !!

mountain respite

  • 5 of 5

Our group stay at Deer Run was everything we hoped for, and more! Sandra's house was perfect for our annual ladies' getaway. Perched atop the mountain, surrounded by beautiful forest, the home is well appointed and very comfortable. Kitchen has virtually anything you would want or need. Bathrooms clean and well stocked. Beds very comfy with quality linens. Sandra is responsive and helpful. This location made it easy to see the surrounding area with day trips. Close to several wonderful towns, all with great shops and eateries! Take the Eating Asheville food tour!!

Quiet place to rest

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful and quiet place to rest and enjoy the woods. House was very clean and comfortable. Close to Dupont and Brevard/Davidson river for hikes and trout fishing.

Sandra is a gracious host eager to offer valuable information about the surrounding area.

Will return for our next fishing trip.

Beautiful mountain hideout

  • 5 of 5

We loved our 3 nights at deer Run and would have gladly stayed longer. The beautiful cabin gives you the sense of being completely isolated, even thought that's not the case. It's not far to town, or to waterfalls, or to mountain hikes. Everything is beautifully decorated, the kitchen is well-equipped, and Sandra has provided an ample supply of maps, guides, and helpful hints. Would love to come back!
