Thirteen years ago we bought 13 acres of land to build a cabin to vacation in with plans to later build a small retirement home and use the cabin as quest quarters. When we ended up building a larger house than planned, we decided to rent out the cabin.
Don is a retired Cardiologist, and Sandra is a retired teacher. We have hiked this area for over 30 years and knew that we would want to spend the rest of our lives here.
While we genuinely love hiking, Don is passionate about taking pictures of wild flower and nature, and Sandra is very active at Brevard Health & Racquet Club.
It’s great being able to walk out our door with our dogs to so many beautiful trails. There is so much wild life to discover.
Sandra Whitaker purchased this cabin in 2000
Thank you so much for sharing your wonderful cabin with us. We appreciate how all the rooms are immaculate and beautifully appointed. I love the super soft blankets on the beds! We enjoyed the scenery, the musical DVDs, and the kitchen stocked with everything we needed for all our meals. It's hard to leave such a wonderful place.
My husband and I stayed in this cabin for a few days while vacationing in Brevard. The cabin was less than a 10 minute drive from some of the most beautiful waterfalls we had ever seen. It's super secluded! One night it rained for a bit, and the sound it made on the tin roof was like a symphony. The cabin was very clean and comfortable, and the owners of the cabin were very hospitable. We felt right at home.
Even though we're nature freaks and spent most of our time hiking, it was nice to have the town of Brevard within a short driving distance from the cabin. We went out one night for dinner, and the town itself was very charming, with a nice selection of locally owned restaurants. We even saw a white squirrel!
We will absolutely stay at this cabin again the next time we plan a hiking trip!
Thank you so much!
This cabin was set in lovely quiet area super close to Pisgah National Forest. The cabin was very well-appointed with everything you could image needing. The living area was very cozy with a wonderful fireplace and plenty of wood! The master bedroom was secluded and cozy as well. We had family join us on two occasions, and the second bedroom suited their visits perfectly. The vicinity to Pisgah was perfect for my husband's trail biking and my hikes with my daughter/family. We definitely wish to return to Deer Run.
We arrived in the darkness of the night and were greeted by the owner Mrs. Whitaker. She invited us in to her Quaint, Cozy, Beautiful little cabin and showed us around. She showed us the wood she had made available to us for the stone fireplace, where to put the used ashes from the fireplace, she gave us the instructions of where the garbage goes...etc..... she was very detail oriented, gave us information for the surrounding hikes (she also had many informative books on specific hikes and waterfalls). The cabin was decorated beautifully, kitchen was stocked with all the necessities, the beds were comfortable, and everything was very clean! After a day of hiking to waterfalls we relaxed on the soft, comfortable couch, listening to the crackling sound of the fire, while sipping on our delicious Bourbon Barrel Aged Beers we got from Oskar Blues Brewery (located not to far away from the cabin.) Thank you Mrs. Whitaker for providing such a comfortable, beautiful & relaxing oasis!
Sandra is a tremendous hostess. She agreed to let me rent for an extended stay as I took in the local sites and looked for a home in the area. My wife and I enjoyed the peacefulness of the cabin and our daily walks in the woods. Sandra has trail maps for the areas surrounding the cabin. She also recommended places to eat in Brevard which is only a short, 15 min drive away. If you like Yoga, Brevard Yoga has walk-in classes. We made excursions to Pisgah, DuPont and Lake Toxaway taking in several falls that were an easy hike from the designated parking lots.
For those wanting to experience all this area has to offer, this cabin is centrally located and has all the necessary conveniences of WiFi, Direct TV, and fully equipped Kitchen.
You will not be disappointed !!
Our group stay at Deer Run was everything we hoped for, and more! Sandra's house was perfect for our annual ladies' getaway. Perched atop the mountain, surrounded by beautiful forest, the home is well appointed and very comfortable. Kitchen has virtually anything you would want or need. Bathrooms clean and well stocked. Beds very comfy with quality linens. Sandra is responsive and helpful. This location made it easy to see the surrounding area with day trips. Close to several wonderful towns, all with great shops and eateries! Take the Eating Asheville food tour!!
Beautiful and quiet place to rest and enjoy the woods. House was very clean and comfortable. Close to Dupont and Brevard/Davidson river for hikes and trout fishing.
Sandra is a gracious host eager to offer valuable information about the surrounding area.
Will return for our next fishing trip.
