We are a family that has a vacation home 5 minutes from this home. We have been in the area for 7 years and love it. We hope you do as well. We can share all the fun places to visit when you are here!
Jenifer Crosby purchased this house in 2011
We have enjoyed it ourselves and found the drama of the space very appealing!
We love the views, light and the beauty of the house. The fireplace is very special. The property itself is large and gorgeously landscaped. We even have a vegetable garden which during the season will have vegetables and herbs for the picking! Tennis court along with a basketball hoop
For a group of seven professional women/friends/colleagues, this was a terrific place to spend a quiet and laughter-filled weekend catching up, cooking, and enjoying nature - water, birds, frogs, and flowers - and the surrounding Hudson River valley. The property is well maintained and spacious. As nature-lovers we really appreciated the lovely gardens and the birdsong was truly special. This beautiful home provided the right blend of shared and private space. The various seating options clustered along the path to the water are spot on. We used them all. The hammock was also a big hit.
The kitchen is well stocked and practical. We used the grill and ate our meals outside. We spent a late morning and lunch-time at the Etsy craft market in Hudson followed by an afternoon tour of Olana, in all of its summer splendor and looking down over the river it's just stunning and well worth the time spent roaming around the house and grounds.
From start to finish, we had a wonderful time and we hope to return! Highly recommended!
wonderful experience - house/property was exactly as advertised. very nice, tons of space. the lake was great
What a special place. A group of friends and I go away on a Memorial Day Weekend trip each year, and this time, we picked this lovely property. It was a scorcher over the holiday, so the lake was wonderful to have — we used the kayaks, canoe, and paddleboat to reach the dock and then go swimming. The house has everything and is truly beautiful. Convenient, comfortable, and clean. There are even two outdoor showers — wow!
Perhaps the best way to summarize our trip is with a short anecdote: on Sunday morning, we realized that we couldn't find the coffee maker. Turns out, it had broken shortly before we got there, and was removed from the house. But Jenifer brought her personal coffee maker over right away so we could have coffee that morning, and then bought another one for the house that afternoon. So truly thoughtful, and a step above and beyond what we could hope.
We had a family reunion by the lake last weekend. The house and property were beautiful and the adjacent cottage was an extra bonus
Lots to do boating tennis ping pong all included and in great shape
Amazing lake view
We are a really picky group and all of us were blown away
We will be back for sure
This house is fantastic for a group. There is enough space for everyone to comfortably have their privacy, while at the same time providing for a cozy communal space. The views and access to the lake are incredible (and access to boats to traverse the lake). The rooms boast comfortable beds, and the grounds and both houses (there are two houses included) are immaculately maintained and very clean. The second house has a huge common space with a bar area -- fun if you have folks who want to stay up later than the rest of the group. All in all, our group has stayed in many different locations, but this is my new favorite.
'We' heard about an exhibit in Copake Falls about camps 'in the area' from the 1920's, and on. One thing led to another and 'We' decided that this was the time for a camp reunion. I immediately Gooogled 'Houses in Copake', and lo and behold, this beautiful house, right on, what we knew as Lake Rhoda (now Upper Rhoda Pond) appeared before me. This was almost unbelievable as most of us had not been back to West Copake for a good 50 years. So, after much arranging, 7 of us made our way, as far as Nashville and Colorado to our beloved lake. The house welcomed us with open arms, and the lake, as if we had never left. We almost immediately took out one of the canoes and made our way around the lake. We ate outside on the deck with a well stocked kitchen to make us feel right at home. We chose our BR's easily, as there were 2 sets of Sisters who shared a bed. The next day, we had about 20 people at the house for lunch, and between the outdoor spaces to sit, the welcoming size of the house, nothing ever felt crowded. The BR's were lovely, clean and cozy. Saturday night 3 more people stayed over and they too, were just as comfortable in the Gurst House. We did not get a chance to go swimming, although the lake was warm, we simply were not there long enough. The whole process of renting the house was easy, due to the professionalism of the rental agent/property manager. I do believe that each of us would go back in a heartbeat, and HAPILY stay for more than a weekend.
