My house is my retreat from the bustle of city living. The open kitchen is clean and sunny. It is where all the socializing happens during dinner preparation. Then everyone either moves out to the deck to chill with a glass of wine and good conversation or they head into the dining room to eat around a larger table. The upstairs bedroom is great for the kids and is large enough to sleep three while the adults close the door and continue the party. After a long day of hiking at lake Miliwaska or climbing in the Gunks this is the perfect place to relax or regroup before heading out to one of the restaurants in town. It is close to town, but not so close that you have to hear all the riff raff in town when the bars shut down.
Keywords: Great for family escape to biking, climbing or hiking. Well equipt kitchen and deck. Fire place and comfortable living space.
I work in sales at a high end retailer in NYC. My boston terrier and new husband travel with me to New Paltz. In the winter it is my crash pad for ski trips and in the summer I enjoy hiking and biking and gardening and cooking. My best meals are whipped up in my house with my Bon Appetite magazine guiding me.
Kim Johnson purchased this house in 2001
I bought in New Paltz because the location is easy to access from the city. One and a half hours drive and I am enjoying a glass of wine by the fireplace. Then I can continue up to ski or bike in the morning. I fell in love with the old solid feeling of the house, but have opened up the rooms and made it cleanly decorated and beautiful.
While you are there you will enjoy the chill vibe of my house. Walk your dog behind the barn and check out the bird nest under the deck. Enjoy going for a bike ride through the apple orchards and then grilling a killer meal on the deck.
Also, if you are headed to New Paltz to attend a wedding at Mohonk mountain house and want to spend time with family or bring your pet along for the adventure, this is the perfect spot.
We were on a college tour - Looking at Marist (20 min away) and our daughter also attending a 3 day softball showcase camp in Milton NY at Sportsdome. This home was central to many locations - New Paltz, Milton, Minnewaska State Park, Mohonk Preserve, Shawangunk Mountain Ridge, Woodbury Outlets...we hiked, dined and stayed in to relax as well. The house itself had an amazing kitchen space. The bedrooms were very charming and comfortable. Living room light filled and cozy. Large yard for pets plus deck off kitchen that was gated. Would absolutely stay again.
The arts and crafts bungalow in New Paltz was great. It was large and well equipped with everything you would need in a home. The owner, Kim, was so helpful, and responded immediately to all of my questions. The front porch is a great place to sit and relax; barbeque on the back patio; and enjoy the large, peaceful yard. We had a great time exploring the neighboring towns but it was nice to have this quaint retreat to come home to!
A lovely home, perfect for our multi-generational family weekend. The kids loved the loft bedroom, and grown ups delighted in the spacious living areas. Just as pictured! Comfy beds, thoughtful host... Thank you, Kim!
My family and I stayed at this home for a month -- my kids were attending Wild Earth summer camp. And I can honestly say it was perfect. The host was very responsive, kind, generous, easy to deal with and a bunch of other positive adjectives. On our last day, we even accidentally broke something, and she was extremely kind about that too. The home itself is very spacious and well-equipped and close to town. It's close enough that I would ride my bike to the bus station everyday to take the bus into Manhattan. The yard was absolutely perfect for the kids and the dog. Again, everything was above expectations. I highly recommend this rental!
I stayed here with six other friends over a long summer weekend. The house was both spacious and comfortable and easily accommodated all of us. The back deck is the perfect for grilling sausages, ribs, and anything else you can imagine. The kitchen was fully stocked with all of the supplies we needed. The house is a 5 minute drive to the center of town, and fifteen minutes from Tuthilltown Distillery. If you are looking for a calm, peaceful getaway spot that is not far from the city, this is the place for you. I highly recommend staying here!
My husband, dad-in-law & our pooch stayed here for a Memorial Day weekend wedding. This home fit the owner's description perfectly & we all enjoyed our time spent here in between activities. Everything you could need is provided and the beds were top notch comfortable! Great space inside & out. We'll definitely stay again if we're in the area. Super easy dealing with the owner too!
