Welcome to “La Caja de Joyas” or “The Jewel Box”, our family operated private and relaxing vacation property. We are situated perfectly in the quiet, rustic Langosta community with it's pristine, white sand beach and beside Tamarindo with its many shops, restaurants, tour activity and nightlife.

Hi we are the owners Clement & Kelly. You've read this far so we are guessing our property might be a good fit for you? Yes our rates seem low in comparison to similar properties in the area. We are a traditional family run VRBO. It's our home and we leave it that way for our guests. We rent selectively to families/couples through the year when we are not there and try to provide a comfortable home away from home at a reasonable cost in hope that guests will respect that and our property. * Over 60 restaurants, clubs, great shops, tours and activity operators, banks/ATM's, all medical, dental and pharmacy services. All a short 15 minute walk or two minute drive/taxi $5/bus $1 away in the commercial center of Tamarindo.

What can you do? When not at the beach, shopping or eating out book an adventure tour, enjoy an afternoon/sunset sailing cruise, go turtle watching, take in a fitness class, hike to a waterfall or just relax and enjoy a frozen Mojito, one of our favorite guilty pleasures while watching the spectacular evening sunsets at the beach or from one of the many beach side restaurants. Or enjoy some delicious Costa Rican coffee at one of the specialty shops close by. And be sure to catch the Saturday Feria (market) where local produce and arts and crafts are offered up or take in live music from one of the many local gathering places.

Our local property manager provides assistance to guests with transportation, tours and a host of other services to get your vacation off to a great start. We also provide all guests with a full package of information on the property, the area in general, tips and recommendations after you booking is confirmed to assist with trip planning. We have creative ideas from many years spending time in this area and the country in general and are happy to answer any questions you might have at any time.

About Clement and Kelly

We are a retired couple who enjoy our second home in Costa Rica and are happy to share it with others when we are not there. Our objective is to provide the most relaxing and enjoyable experience we can in the same manor that we enjoy Tamarindo/Playa Langosta. We stay in close touch with our guests and have a friend and property manager who lives in Tamarindo that will support your stay as well. He can be reached at any time and provides many additional personalized services to the very few properties he manages. As an owner operated rental we have set the property up as our second home and leave it as we use it for our guests. You will find it very comfortable, clean and well maintained.

Safety - locked security gate controls all access to your private 2nd floor and the roof terrace. Large security safe. Maintenace/gardener/security person living on site.

Almost limitless options for shopping, restaurants, tours, activities of all sorts. Tamarindo is well developed but retains a very rustic non commercial feel. Beaches are amazing, weather in this spot on the Nicoya Peninsula is some of the driest, nicest weather in all of Central America. It is what attracted so many to this location after the International Airport was opened in Liberia, about 45 minutes from Tamarindo.

Awesome Condo

This condo was literally a Home Away from home! It was spacious, clean and quiet which made for a very restful night sleep. We were a block away from the beach, everything was convenient and the property just stunning! W will definitely be back!!

Wonderful place for a family vacation

This was our first time to Costa Rica and with Clem and Kellys helpful advise and wonderful home it was an awesome family vacation! We were celebrating 2 graduations and our 25th wedding anniversary. Couldn't ask for more!!!

We stayed in La Caja de Joyas for one perfect month. This condo is so comfy we felt right at home the minute we got there. The kitchen has everything you will need to cook a simple or gourmet meal. Lots of room to relax both inside and out on the balcony. The pool area is kept shiny clean by the wonderful Alverro and a real joy to come back to after exploring all the amazing adventures that Costa has to offer. The owners Clemet and Kelly could not be more kind and helpful. Our whole experience here was flawless bliss. We highly recommend this beautiful piece of paradise.

Great Place to Stay in Costa Rica

La Caya de Joyas was a very clean and comfortable home for our visit to Costa Rica. Clement was amazingly helpful from start to finish, and was very genuine about ensuring our stay was the best. We liked the area because it was only an hour or so from Liberia airport, was close to Tamarindo and its fun culture, but distanced enough to ensure peace and quiet. The Auto Mercado, close to Tamarindo, was exceptionally well stocked for all one’s needs. We loved Langosta Beach and Tamarindo Beach, and could walk to either quite easily. We spent much of our time outdoors; the deck overlooking the pool and the rooftop patio were lovely places to sit. Everything worked properly with no hassles. We enjoyed meeting the caretaker and the property manager, who were both very helpful and caring. We felt very safe there.

We enjoyed our stay

We spent 10 days in Playa Langosta at this very nice condo. Was traveling with my husband and two 18 year old girls. The condo was very comfortable and we felt very much at home. Most mornings we enjoyed sitting on the patio that overlooked the pool to drink our morning coffee. The breeze was wonderful. The area is quiet so nice for sleeping and relaxing. We thoroughly enjoyed taking a dip in the pool when coming back from an excursion or the beach. The condo and grounds are nicely maintained. Everyone was very friendly.

I do have to say that it took us a few days to get use to the walk to Tamarindo. The road leading from the condo is very dusty. We also discovered that they put molasses on some parts of the road to help decrease the amount of dust when cars drive by. We ended up renting a golf cart for a few days from Waterman's. ($55/day) We LOVED having the cart but it was to pricey to keep for the entire 10 days. Having the golf cart made going back and forth to Tamarindo easier. There is a grocery store near the condo but their prices are higher and most of the supplies sitting on the shelf were covered in dust. We did discover a beach access point mid-way to Tamarindo so we walked half on the road and half on the beach. This was much more pleasant! We enjoyed our stay but just want to make sure everyone understands about the walk to town on very dusty unevenly paved roads.

We did enjoy eating at El Sapo's (pizza) on nights we did not want to go back into town. (right around the corner from the condo)

We realize that guest demands vary greatly and while the 4 star is disappointing after over 2 dozen 5 star reviews from our other guests your comments are fair. With respect to our location we are in a tropical 3rd world country so paved roads and sidewalks are not what you find. That is what attracted us as we were not looking for what you might find in Hawaii or other more developed vacation spots. We use the term rustic in our listing to describe the entire area and it is authentic to Costa Rica's lifestyle and more authentic communities. We are a retired couple in our 60's and walk back and forth 2 or even 3 times a day so this road is a matter of perspective. As other guests have mentioned the benefit of being a 15 - 20 minute walk from the busy and noisier commercial center of Tamarindo is the quieter, more relaxing community and being closer to the pristine Langosta beach as well as close to Tamarindo beach and Tamarindo center itself. We did provide information to you in advance on the various walking routes and you can access the beach from multiple locations to eliminate the road so we are glad you did discover one of these. Just a note that you can walk into Tamarindo commercial center entirely on the beach although it does add 10 minutes to the walking time. There are buses (about $1) and taxis ($5) if walking, biking or a car are not in your plans every day. The golf cart was a good idea and one we'll use for a few days in March when our 89 year old mother joins us. The small corner store is handy for day to day supplies and is slightly more expensive than the larger supermarkets that are 5 minutes from the condo. This is typical for community based stores all over North America i.e. 7/11. We are glad you enjoyed the local Italian restaurant. Our guest book lists a number of local eateries, Bocas, Matty's, The Surf Club Sports Bar, Waterman's, Capitan Suizo, Langosta Beach Club all easy walking distance within the Langosta Community. But yes there are many more world class restaurants in Tamarindo when the urge to eat out comes up. "Tico to Go" also delivers from any restaurant in the area for a small delivery fee. We will review our listing and additional guest information we send out to make sure your points are well covered and thank you again for your honest comments on your vacation. RENTAL TERMS AND CONDITIONS, GUEST RULES

A $500 USD or $650 CAD security deposit (cash to property manager at check in or by on line Homeaway system credit card) is due before check in, returned promptly after check out.
All taxes, all utilities and cleaning before check in and after check out included in rates. No additional/hidden charges.

Check out 11am, check in 3pm. Optional times available subject to property and property manager availability. Rates include in-person check in/out between 9am-5pm. Optional times outside of those hours will require a $25 payment made directly to the property manager at that time.

A loss of keys will result in a $150 charge to cover lock changes to the ground floor security gate and 2nd floor main entry door.

No Smoking and no pets.

Quiet Hours – 11pm to 8am. Pool is closed and guests are required to be sensitive to noise levels and your neighbors.

Manager's Cancellation Policy

  • 50% refund if canceled at least 30 days before arrival date.
  • 100% refund if canceled at least 60 days before arrival date.
