MY WIFE AND I PURCHASED THIS LOT IN '79'. THE HOUSE WAS BUILT THE FOLLOWING YEAR. IT WAS TRUE WILDERNESS BACK IN THOSE DAYS, BUT HAS BECOME MORE SETTLED OVER THE YEARS WITH THE ADVENT OF PAVEMENT, NATURAL GAS, AND ROAD MAINTENACE. THE AREA HAS REMAINED RURAL WITH LARGE LOT SIZES KEEPING IT OPEN AND APPEALING TO WILDLIFE.
The Owner purchased this chalet in 1979
WE WANTED TO LIVE AND RAISE OUR KIDS IN A TRULY ALASKAN SETTING, BUT STILL BE WITHIN RANGE OF EMPLOYMENT
Our stay was everything we'd hoped for, and more. Great communication from the owner, clean accommodations, beautiful setting. We enjoyed cooking in the nicely appointed kitchen, and were surprised at all of the things we didn't have to buy because they were already available to use. We plan to recommend this cabin to anyone we know traveling to the area. We hope to return ourselves!
This log chalet was wonderful! My husband and I had the good fortune to stay for an entire week along with three young adults. In addition to a very complete kitchen, the pantry included items such as cooking oil, paper plates, and cups. There was even butter, gourmet coffee, bread, and half and half waiting for us in the refrigerator! These were welcome surprises.
The house was within easy driving distance of all the places we needed to go (Wasilla, Anchorage), but the stores in Eagle River (such as Fred Myer) were very complete.
The views from the house and decks were amazing - changing every so often as the fog came and went around the mountains. The furniture was all very comfortable. The owner included many extras to make our stay more enjoyable, including backpacks for our use, and many games, which the "kids (ages 20 -31) made use of.
We would recommend this lovely rental to anyone!
We've stayed here for a whole month and what a great joy it has been to be here in this lovely, well looked after log cabin! We've felt at home from the first moment. Everything you could possibly want or need was here and everywhere nice personal touches could be found. The pictures in the cabin are awesome: I would gladly have some of them in my own house ;)
The cabin is in a perfect spot for trips to Seward, Whittier and of course Anchorage but Eagle River has all the shops you might need.
We looked after the grass and the flowers, which added to the 'at home'-feeling and enjoyed sitting and eating on the deck. John came by weekly to look after the garbage, so no worries there for us, which was nice.
All in all: we've thoroughly enjoyed staying here and will gladly come again!
This cabin worked perfectly for our girls only trip. Plenty of space to find quiet time. Beautiful views from every window. Furnishings and decor were very tasteful. The owners have everything just right for guests.
Just got back from our 10 day trip (8 day stay at the cabin) to Alaska. All of the reviews are right on and nothing could have been better. A few nights in the mid 40s was certainly a welcome change from the 90s we already have in Florida. I was able to meet John in person and besides being a Patriots fan (Go Dolphins) he was a pleasure to deal with. He contacted us that he would come by to collect the garbage and water the plants so you don't even have to deal with that. With my son and granddaughter living in Anchorage, this place will be our destination as long as it is offered. Thanks John and Ellen for making our much needed get-a-way a 10.
My mom, her good friend and I stayed here for 10 nights in June 2014. I cannot begin to describe how wonderful this Log Cabin Chalet was. Before we ever arrived, John was personable and easy to stay in contact with. As we arrived, we were blown away. The beauty was incredible, more than 360 degrees of "awe." We stepped into the cabin and immediately felt at home. The first floor had a gorgeous sitting area, one bedroom, one bathroom and a full laundry room! Up to the main floor boasted a large family lounging area, a dining room, full kitchen, a bedroom and another full bathroom. There was a door leading out back to another deck with views looking back up the hill. From the family room, stairs led up to the loft and the 3rd bedroom. The cabin was clean, cozy and the perfect escape from life for 10 days. John, we loved your little note on the Kirkland coffee can "The good stuff is in the freezer" where we found fresh Kaladi coffee. (As one who lived in AK for 4 years, I LOVED Kaladi coffee!!) There were condiments galore in the cupboards, refrigerator and freezer...a common theme in Alaska. We left a few little goodies for the next person, too.
While we were there we traveled to JBER base, Anchorage, Palmer, Wasilla, Talkeetna, Girdwood and Seward. We highly recommend taking the train on a trip. From experience, my favorite was the train to Seward.
We highly recommend John's Log Cabin Chalet! We cannot wait to come back and do our girls trip again!! Got openings for 2016, John? :)
