* 4 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms (1 tiled shower & 1 jacuzzi bathtub, 1 with shower/bath combo, 2 powder rooms)

* movie den with Apple TV: Internet movies, streaming music/CDs to house speakers

The grounds are a virtual mini-estate and sprawl over three lots with a dozen tall palm trees, five mesquite-trees, and ten citrus trees! Five awesome golf courses are within 2.5miles. There is a huge network of desert hiking/biking/walking trails a few blocks away. It's only a short 5 minute drive to hundreds of restaurants and 10 minutes to great shopping.

The house wraps around a peaceful Spanish style courtyard with a sparkling pebbletec pool with a waterfall cascading over boulders. It has a sloped 'beach' entry, great for lounging and kids' games. Hang out in the poolside cabana: fans, poolside music from your iDevice/CDs, watch TV and later clink glasses under warm ambient lighting or velvet darkness.

Beside the cabana is a fantastic hot tub, 'always hot' and featuring tons of adjustable powerful massage jets and your choice of relaxation positions. Those who have stayed somewhere with a weak-jetted hot tub with that cycles its hot water into an pool after you've just waited an hour and paid to heat it will appreciate why this is unique.

Take your drinks up to the roof deck for sunset appreciation time. Gaze out to the stark desert mountains across the road and out across the whole Coachella valley: notice you have a 360 view. Watch cool desert birds as they perch in the mesquite.

The property is terrific for guests who need room to romp. There is a large grassy lawn with soccer net, badminton, smashball, croquet. Dog owners, please inquire: we occasionally accept preferably non-shedding, perfectly trained dogs: fees may vary based on whether 1 or 2 dogs and the length of stay.

The pool has an electric-operated pool cover on tracks recessed into the pool deck for keeping the pool warmer and cleaner during the desert's windy or cooler nights. We have a propane pool heater for cooler spells: ask for a quote for pool/spa heat based on season and duration. In the hottest part of the summer, running the waterfall at night helps keep the pool cooler than smaller pools that may overheat.

This is a Mexican hacienda style home with a Southwest desert flair and oodles of CHARACTER! Here is your own entirely private 'La Quinta Resort' but... with kitchen, washer/dryer, private pool, private cabana, DEDICATED lounge chairs, your own music, private hot tub, and room to roam.

You'll notice delicious smells from citrus flowers. There are many hummingbirds, doves and flycatchers. The front door greets you with a water fountain with stained glass. The front gate is landscaped with a dry riverbed look landscaping, Old West artifacts, Mexican tilework, prickly pear cactus and bright pink bougainvillea to welcome you home.

'The End of the Trail' rates are based on groups up to 8 people INCLUDING children and babies: please inquire if your group exceeds this. For singles, two queen air mattresses an be set up with nice linens for a fee per bed.

Bedroom One: The master ensuite is huge, king organic bed, high-thread count linens, TV, adjoins an office with a big wooden desk, and extends to the TV den. Patio doors open to the pretty pool courtyard with mountain view.

Bedroom Two: The 'master of the guest wing' has a queen bed, ensuite powder room in sunny Mexican colors, patio sliding doors that look out to desert landscaping and mountains.

Bedroom Three: Has a queen bed with a Mexican oak headboard, TV and a door that opens to the kitchen lanai patio for morning reading sessions.

Bedroom Four: Has two twin extra-long beds, a big window looking out to dry riverbed look desert landscaping and mountains.

But the tough decision will be where to lounge outdoors with your Kindle or book...

No more ridiculously priced 'cabana rentals' and over-priced drinks, fighting the hordes for lounger chairs or renting a cabana. Save the money you would have spent on tips for a good bottle of wine.

For breakfast, a wrought iron patio table outside the kitchen door by the lemon tree and another angle of mountain view. There's something so soul-restoring about gazing at palm trees and smiling at the resident roadrunner. The kitchen offers KitchenAid blender, a full assortment of barware, sharp knives, Riedel wine glasses, pool glasses, automatic ice-making, good quality pans and pots. We strive to make it easy for you to show up and enjoy even for shorter four-night getaways: we provide things like the paper towels, ziplock/saran/foil, basic spices/oil/vinegar, starter coffee/tea, nice shampoo/conditioner in dispensers, and liquid hand soap.

Try out yoga & meditation in one of the picturesque spaces around the home. Walk the garden, or play hide and seek with the kids! Bring your bike or have the local rental company drop them up; ride the roads or trails, then prepare a dinner in the full kitchen with ingredients from the farmers' market or a quick meal from Trader Joe's. Yes, you can sit outside for all of your meals! Or cozy up inside on a cool evening: we seat 8 at the high table in the kitchen, 2 at the bar and 6 at the formal dining room table.

You work hard, now you're ready for a restorative retreat!

Please note: Absolutely no weddings or group events: they violate occupancy and other bylaws. Over-occupancy strictly enforced. We refer to the Cliffhouse.

You'll be hesitant to leave the property but the lure of seeing 'teddy bear' cholla cacti & waving ocotillos, and snapping awesome photos will be too much to resist.

Start on the sidewalk across the road that hugs the desert mountains and a few blocks down you'll see a trailhead with map posted for the local extensive trail network for hiking, mountain biking and running. Google La Quinta 'Bear Creek Canyon/Oasis Trail', 'Boo Hoff Trail'(steep 8.8 miles), 'Cove to Lake Cahuilla Trail': they have stunning vistas, palm oases & a variety of desert plants. Watch for some fleet-footed mountain sheep!

Or venture 45min further to the famous Bugs Bunny roadrunner-coyote setting of the Joshua Tree Park (south entrance), where you might spot huge desert tortoises, Fred Flintstone-esque boulder formations, roadrunners & desert hares.

What many refer to as 'Palm Springs' is actually a collection of separate but contiguous communities in the Coachella Valley including La Quinta. It is also one of the golf meccas of the Western World!!! There are numerous tournament courses including PGA West & SilverRock Resort.

Shopping abounds all along highway 111 (the main east-west connector through to Palm Springs) as well as the boutiques of La Quinta village itself. Palm Desert offers high end boutiques along El Paseo.

It's about 40-45 min drive to friendly PSP Palm Springs International airport, a direct flight from many places, or fly to Anaheim SNA, ONT, LAX or into San Diego and enjoy the ~2hr scenic drive over the mountains. Some also fly to Las Vegas or Phoenix.

Grocery stores (Trader Joe's, Sprout's/Whole Foods, Von's and Costco) are 8-15 minutes away by car. Jules and Tampico Meat Market are 5 min in La Quinta Village.

Drive 20 min to the Living Desert, a wild animal park that features the best of American & African desert animals, birds & plants. Feed the giraffes, ride the camels, get up close with endangered mountain goats & African deer, pet goats, ride a carousel, hike up their ~2hr loop vista trail. In the afternoon, head home for sunset appreciation time on the roof deck!

How about some art & culture? Seasonally, weekends in La Quinta offer an outdoor art show and farmer's market. Nearby Palm Desert offers the College of the Desert Street Fair with up to 340 outdoor vendors. Don't miss area Art Museums. Looking for a party? La Quinta is quiet: go to the City of Palm Springs.

Try one of the La Quinta fabulous restaurants such as a seafood spot, a live music bar, gourmet restaurants, “Stuft Pizza”, the literally named 'Cliffhouse'. Or people-watch from the coffee shop before you stroll Old Town. The Indian Wells resort often features a Frank Sinatra show at Frank's Place (seasonal).

The kids (and young-at-heart) will LOVE Wet n Wild waterslides, wave pool and lazy river.

Or maybe... you're just here to sit back, relax & enjoy consistent sunshine & warm weather! You may ditch all of your big plans for this option... and that's OK too!

About Angela

Trusted Property Management in La Quinta will be your local property managers. They have a wonderful team and access to the region's best service providers who will take care should any question or concern arise during your stay. The office personnel with help you with entry codes, tourism questions, or arrange for mid stay cleaning. The home's owners are in the photo in Palm Springs enjoying jazz at Woody's Burgers. The owners love hiking in the desert, cooking with fresh ingredients and growing food. Angela loves jazz music! Angela does a little marketing consulting but mostly is mothering our active young kids. My kids love swimming and weird rocks. My husband helps his corporate clients with restructuring and lending advice. When he gets time away from work, he adores reading lots of great fiction, endurance long-distance road cycling, hiking, spending time outdoors. We have a small non-shedding dog but Magnus is allergic to cats and haired dog breeds. He is also sensitive to dust and mild and we are grateful to have a clean, dry, well-maintained home he does not react in. We live full-time in beautiful but seasonally-rainy Vancouver, BC Canada.

The La Quinta neighbourhood is beautiful and quiet. It is NOT a party environment and neighbors respect each other's right for peace and quiet. The neighborhood provides a by-law enforcement patrol and loud music/parties are not tolerated. Please- try Palm Springs proper if this is what you are looking for, we do not have energy to host party-oriented guests.

We enjoy the chance to be close to nature, yet close to every amenity we could desire. I also love spending days when I don't get in a car!

Angela purchased this house in 2012

Why Angela chose La Quinta

We adore the desert. My husband grew up coming to San Diego frequently to see his grandparents and came to love the bright flowers, different flora and fauna, birdsong and endless hiking opportunities of southern California. We vacationed in La Quinta for the first time in 2011 and it's consistent heat (versus the cool winter breezes of coastal California) won us over. The easy airport, the fact that it is drivable to get here are pluses.

I have never actually seen another house anything like this one. My husband jogged by it, and oohed and awed. When we found out it was being sold mostly furnished, we snapped it up, with a plan to use the vacation rentals toward the mortgage, utilities and upkeep of all the amenities and one day be able to spend part of our retirement in the sunshine.

We love that hiking is RIGHT out our doorstep, and the proximity to golf, the Living Desert for the kids, Trader Joe's and the farmer's market. We love that Palm Springs has many direct flights into its small friendly airport and that it is drivable from many great urban centers.

Other great hikes like Indian Canyon, Coachella Valley Nature Preserve, the Painted Canyon and Joshua Tree are within easy reach.

What makes this house unique

As a guest at The End of the Trail, you don't have to drive to go for a walk or hike in a beautiful spot, it's right out your door. I love the view from the pool! I love that we can use the home year-round and enjoy different aspects. The property is so large, you can easily spend all day there with friends or parents and not feel like you're on top of each other. I love that there is a play area for our kids and dog. I am looking forward to spending many happy days of my life, lounging on the roof deck and reading in that casita! I have always dreamed of having a home with pool and hot tub!

October-November and February-April are 'said' to be the best time to go to the desert, also we have things we love about each and every time of year. June-July-August can be over 100 degrees every day with August being the hottest month, although we have air conditioning and fans and we have the top of the line full pool mister system installed to help with the heat. December and January can be cooler at night but significantly warmer than northern climes and pleasant during daytime (think shorts or light slacks with a fleece sweater), affording wonderful time for tennis, golf and hiking, not to mention shopping and tourist attractions such as Joshua Tree, the Date Plantation, going olive oil tasting, to the limoncello cafe, tasting scrumptious foods at area restaurants and toasting (poolsafe glasses) in the hot tub. Sometimes there is wind or even a little rainshower, but it is a reliable desert most of the time. Sunshine and blue skies are what makes it very popular months in the desert for northerners to escape colder temperatures, and coastal dwellers to escape the cool winds and fog. Ask us for help planning your vacation!

Guestbook comments from the owner

The property was absolutely gorgeous and provided plenty of room for hanging out both with the family and hanging out alone (when necessary.) My multi-generational family and I were there over Christmas and the house was festively decorated and everyone had a good time. There were so many options and places to gather that no one was ever bored. Angela was very responsive and provided lots of information beforehand--it definitely felt like a very professional operation. We created wonderful memories here, both in the house and hiking around the beautiful surrounding area.

What a fun place to stay!

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at End of the Trail! The gracious owners are a pleasure to rent from and they truly have thought of everything. The pictures don't quite do the property justice as there are too many "extras" that pictures can't convey. We stayed during the first weekend of Desert Trip and everyone enjoyed having a sanctuary to come back to each night. The jacuzzi was a game changer to soothe our dancing feet and the pool and large cabana were a fun place to chill out during the day. If your looking for an oasis in the desert, this is it!

Owner's Response: Dear Guests Thank you! We are thrilled you enjoyed your stay so much and took the time out to share your experience with future travellers! We are about to get new photos that show the gorgeous wood tile floors that have replaced all the carpet except in the TV room where we need it for acoustics. Perfect, may I use your quote "the jacuzzi was a game changer" in our marketing materials?! I think so too! The jets are just SO much better than lame in-ground hotel ones. The cabana and its spacious size are pretty unique according to locals who visit us. We're glad you enjoyed the oasis and escape for culture and relaxation. 5 stars to you too! Angela

One Of A Kind Experience!

  • 5 of 5

How many times have you booked a room, suite or even a home based on pictures and/or video you find on a travel site, only to get there and be disappointed?

That is NOT the case with the "End of The Trail." It is simply fantastic!

The home far surpassed my expectations, which we're pretty high to begin with. The owners have taken great care to make sure that visitors have everything they could possibly want in a vacation rental. Not only is the home beautifully decorated inside and out but the kitchen is completely stocked with almost anything you could possibly need and then some. Everything inside and out was very clean and you are greeted with a wonderful welcome basket by the owners. It was very thoughtful.

There are plenty of towels, sheets and pillows for all those that actually sleep at the home and more than enough outdoor towels for guests who decide to use the pool and/or jacuzzi. The owners have also taken great care to post signs and labels to help when it comes to light switches, fans, A/C, televisions, stereo system, indoor and outdoor speakers and a mister system which is probably one my favorite features at the house. It really did cool things off outside by 10 degrees or more and is completely refreshing when sitting poolside or in the cabana. Did I mention a television in the cabana for you football fans on Sunday.

The grounds are just beautiful and the theme throughout is that of a relaxing hacienda and the attention to the details, no matter how small, is obvious. One of the coolest features of the home is the roof deck. It can get warm up there during the day but in the evening, head up with your favorite beverage and relax in the most comfortable lounge chairs you've ever sat in. The views are spectacular of the whole La Quinta area and of the mountains and the view of the night sky is magical. Turn on the fire pit and it's as perfect a setting as you can get with friends and family.

Whether you're with friends, family or a romantic partner, "The End Of The Trail" is a perfect setting and you'll want to come back and visit as soon as possible. I know I do.

Owner's Response: Dear Guests, Wow! What a delicious review and we really appreciate the praise and encouragement to keep offering what we are offering to travellers like yourself. It takes a lot more effort (than some rental homes put in - we've noticed as renters ourselves in other regions) for us to provide the level of detail we do, and do it well. Things like finding the oils, vinegar, fresh spices you need in the kitchen, plastic wrap, ziplocks and tidy tupperwares with matching lids. We try to balance signage to allow you to hit the ground running a alongside a detailed instruction binder so both fly-by-the-seat-of-your-pants types, and detail-types can get the lay of the land at your own pace and make use of all the amenities, games, and what's on offer. We're travelers ourselves and have added things like an extra drinks fridge in the dining room cabinet so the main fridge isn't as crammed for a group and as busy at cocktail hour. Yes, while many homes are going to Netflix only due to the cost of cable, we are providing high speed internet, phone and cable package, as well as Apple TVs with Netflix. You are really the guest owners dream of, and we hope you will return year after year to enjoy our dark skies, palm trees and hospitality: that is our goal - to be honest about our offering and match travellers who want to experience something a little different. This is not a cookie cutter home or grounds, it's totally unique. 5 stars to you as well and MANY thanks for taking the time to type all this up. With gratitude, Angela

Jewel in the desert

  • 5 of 5

Thank you for such a wonderful stay in your lovely home. We have genuinely enjoyed our time here in this desert oasis. While we were anticipating a beautiful “rental property”, End of the Trail is clearly a home and it felt like that the minute we arrived. From the décor, to the layout, and furnishings, to the smallest of touches, (including the thoughtful guest basket) Angela, has thought of it all. We enjoyed the spectacular scenery - quiet and peacefulness of the neighborhood, the extremely well kept grounds and pool landscape. Looking forward to returning to this jewel in the desert.

Owner's Response: Dear Guests, No, thank YOU! We are so glad that your expectations were exceeded in offering our "vacation home" experience rather than an impersonal "rental property". We welcome each guest with some things tailored to their occasion or group, to thank them for taking a chance and booking with us and not following the herd to the mega-resorts lining up for over-priced drinks and over-crowded pools, cabana rentals by the hour rather than free range vacationing. We consider ourselves as End of the Trail as a hiking theme and often it's overlooked in grocery shopping to get some sports drinks, bars and portable snacks for outings. If children are in tow, we like to surprise them with a little something if we know the ages, since the property manager and I are parents of young children ourselves. Thank you for the compliments to our gardeners and pool providers, we will be sure to pass them on. Come back as time allows, and contact me for a returning guest special since you cared for our home so beautifully. Kind regards, Angela

Exquisite stay after a long ride!

  • 5 of 5

This is an amazing place! Great location - a quiet part of town for a great night sleep. Super layout for friends and family with lots of room for everyone! The pool was just the right temperature, in fact I even fell asleep floating on an foam pad!

A group of us stayed at Angela's place after several long days of riding our bikes. We were all looking forward to our stay in La Quinta and getting a good nights sleep and some R & R and this place did not disappoint. One of the many features of this place that I loved was the rooftop patio with the fire in the centre of the table - a great place to dine as we took in the desert sunset and evening sky. Look forward to staying here again!

Owner's Response: Dear Guests, Wow, thanks for sharing your perspective with future travellers. We're delighted you enjoyed the layout of our hacienda, the location and the beauty of the desert community. While we don't recommend "sleeping" in bodies of water, we are super glad you were so relaxed and fit in so much R&R to a shorter stay while feeling you had everything you needed to kick back. We appreciate you pointing out the rooftop deck to future travellers! It's really pretty awesome, the way you can get so many views by sitting in different ultra-comfortable chairs - to the near desert mountains' rock; to the palms and house, across the Cove and Valley to Joshua Tree, you feel even closer to the moon, whatever it's stage, there's selcom clouds and you can enjoy it and the stars. With gratitude, and hopes to hear from you soon about returning, Angela

Fourth stay at the EoT ... each time it gets better ... so comfortable, so fun ... whether it's the salt water pool, hot tub, BBQ'ing or just kicking back, it is the best deal in the desert ... as evidenced by the calendar, I am not the only one who thinks so! You will love your stay here, guaranteed!!!

The best hacienda in all of the desert

  • 5 of 5

we are regulars at the End of the Trail, and for good reason ... there is so much to like ... spacious, clean ... beautiful master bedroom, bathroom and den ... multiple bedrooms in a separate wing ... salt water pool ... jacuzzi ... outdoor cabana for full scale entertaining ... so amazingly comfortable ... it's gotten to where if the EoT is unavailable on a certain date, we will re-work our schedules to make it work ... really is the best in the desert!
