What a special getaway and beautiful area! Treasure Island is a quiet, private, residential place perfectly located close to Kingston and Gananonoque. The home is charming with picturesque views from every room. We spent our mornings drinking coffee by the water's edge or from the deck watching the fish jump. Our evenings were lake side roasting marshmallows in the fire pit and drinking wine. The kids loved the rocky beach and jetty to climb, fish and explore. We all enjoyed the hot tub! We did lots of canoeing and rowing around the island when the water was calm. On the east side of the island as well as right off the jetty, we caught lots of fish including large mouth bass, northern pike and perch. My son even caught a 32 inch pike!!!
As far as excursions, we enjoyed downtown Kingston, the farmers market in the town center, Fort Henry, Gananonoque and a 5 hour boat tour to Boldt Castle. Oh and Grassy Creek park is great for kids to swim and play in the play ground. Everyone we met in Canada was so friendly and helpful.
Unfortunately we have food allergies and therefore cooked all our meals so I cannot comment on the restaurants, but there were quite a few that looked amazing in Kingston! There's a great butcher nearby on 15. We weren't fond of the local grocery stores, we are used to whole foods, but we did enjoy Tara's Natural Foods in Kingston which is small and of course the farmers market. If you're looking for an equivalent to whole foods then go a little further to Farm Boy's.
Overall this home has everything you need for a peaceful, relaxing getaway. Treasure Island was loved by my whole family. Thank you Ellen and Ray Peters!!
I would highly recommend this rental to anyone who is looking for genuine hospitality, and comfort with a great view! The Peters are a great couple to work with and their home is just beautiful. The home is situated on a scenic bank of the St. Lawrence River that provides just the perfect blend of peace and privacy we were looking for. Our teenage children loved having their own space on the lower level with easy access to the hot tub and river. Likewise, my husband and I loved the beautiful master suite located on the main floor with direct access to the deck. The landscaping is absolutely beautiful and the overall island very peaceful. Our vacation could not have been more perfect!
Treasure Island is a fitting name for the location of this lovely home. Ray and Ellen were great communicators and everything was as promised. The pictures say it all when it comes to the amenities and the beauty of staying here. Situated right on the St. Lawrence, the views are breathtaking and one cannot help but feeling like a welcomed guest in their very clean and tidy home. From the squirrel dropping acorns on our head to the fish jumping out of the river (which we could never catch), nature is all around and we felt very much a part of it. And, for all of our creature comforts, Kingston was only a 10 minute drive away, there are TV's galore, high speed Internet, and the tubs will relax away any tensions. A truly enjoyable stay and we highly recommend it to those wishing a beautiful home away from home.
From the moment we arrived, we were captivated by the beauty and the charm of each level inside and the terraced yards surrounding. Ray and Ellen offered a personal touch of meeting us at their home and orienting us personally. This lakeside setting was beyond relaxing and beautiful, it was tranquil. We loved the sitting areas inside as much as all the sitting areas outside but the deck off the master and living room was beautifully located and lived on. We could have just stayed forever. The row boat right on their own beach was easy to launch and more fun than a power boat we rented.
