About Lisa - Owner/Manager

Our family is a blended (as Caymanians say “muggled up” meaning mixed up) Cayman/American (all of Caymanian decent) family. We are 2 (1 3rd generation and 1 4th generation) born Caymanians and 3 American/Caymanians.

We are a family of 5 but living on the property we are a family of 4 (2 adults and 2 children, 11 and 8). Our extended resident family includes our “aged” pet cats and mature Cayman dogs, none of which roam about the property (of course we walk our dogs but on leashes). Our pets are not allowed inside our Cayman Islands vacation guest cottage rental.

Lisa - Owner/Manager purchased this cottage in 2004

Why Lisa - Owner/Manager chose Grand Cayman

Realizing that not all visitors to our beautiful island home are looking to stay in the ritzy high budget hotels and condos on Grand Cayman island, we had this idea to find a more authentic Cayman Islands vacation cottage.

In 2004, we were fortunate enough to stumble upon 2 small unloved Cayman architecture style cottages which sat not on the ocean but across the street and slightly elevated with a fantastic ocean view and immediately knew these would be our budget friendly Cayman vacation rental cottages.

Nestled far from the regular tourists’ hangouts but within close proximity to wonderful dining, grocery stores, beaches and other activities we were delighted with our find.

Vision in hand we set about transforming these once neglected Cayman island gems into our unsophisticated but homey Cayman vacation cottage rentals. Almost at our visions’ end Grand Cayman was devastated by hurricane Ivan who ripped through our island home, sparing lives but reaping property destruction.

Undeterred from our quest for a little Cayman vacation cottage we forged ahead with our second renovations and at the end we are happy to now share our budget rentals with family, friends and guest.

What makes this cottage unique

Overall guest will experience a no fuss, budget friendly Cayman rental that has many of the everyday modern amenities found at the fancier, more costly Grand Cayman vacation condos and villas. We welcome you to stay at our humble Cayman vacation cottage and enjoy our true Caymanian hospitality missing from a vacation experience at the large Grand Cayman Islands’ condos and villas.

We enjoyed a great getaway to Cayman. Lovely island. We are so glad we stayed in the middle of the island. If you are looking for a location away from the hubbub, not close and not far from everything, this is the place. It was far from a tourist trap and Lisa informed us when the cruise ships docked so we could plan appropriately for our activities. We rate things by sleeping comfort, the kitchen and overall visit. The mattress was more than comfy.... so comfy we slept and slept and slept ( I love the black out curtains). The kitchen was nice and fairly well equipped. I am a bit of a foodie and we cooked most meals at home and used lots of cooking utensils. We explored the island, packing a lunch most days and enjoyed the 2 beach towels provided. We would have enjoyed more than 1 towel per person and a cheap beach chair would have made traversing all the beaches more comfortable. We certainly we not encumbered by Lisa and family as we didn't get but a glimpse of them the 10 days we were there. We loved the easy beach access across the road on the private beach. The snorkeling there was awesome. The evening sunsets on the beach we very romantic. We enjoyed the front porch and the pool side for our morning coffee ritual. For packing purposes we only needed beach wear, church clothes, snorkel equipment, thanks to the washer and dryer provided. Don't forget if you want to buy alcohol on the island, you can bring in 1 bottle duty free per person and the liquor stores close to the airport are 2X the prices of outlying communities. It pays to wait!

Owner's Response: Thank you again for your visit and also for your very kind review of your stay at our cottage. It is wonderful to know that the blackout curtains worked so well that you both could sleep in some days. I was happy to get my hands on some local breadfruit, that I could fry and share with you. It was a pleasure to build a new bbq grilling stand for your personal use and even more so to see that the weather allowed for you to use it almost every night, this gives us as host great satisfaction to be able to enhance our guest experience. Your recommendation about perhaps providing more than 1 beach towel per guest is appreciated, we will most certainly look into doing this and we apologize if this caused you any problem; however, in our research we had found 1 beach towel per guest to be the market norm which probably does not pose a problem elsewhere as most places don’t allow their towels to be taken off site. I was very pleased to be able to provide you with fold up beach chairs for use on the beach across the street and enjoyed knowing that you were able to relax in them by the waters’ edge reading. It was a rewarding sight to see you all having a private moment by that lovely beach fire on your last night with us. Thank you again for taking time to post your review because as you commented when we were speaking about the Vicks Vapor Rub that I had been rubbing on my youngest who was sick during your stay, I am “really from the old school” and I truly appreciate each and every guest. We hope you will consider staying with us again should you return to Cayman.

Beautiful home, wonderful hosts, highly recommend!

We had a wonderful vacation, for 17 days, at Lisa’s cottage this winter. The house is modern, beautifully decorated with island motifs, impeccably clean and very practical. The kitchen has all the tools you would need to cook just like you would do at home. The washer and drier are very useful, especially for a longer stay like ours. There was also a full range of necessary supplies for the kitchen and bathrooms, so we didn’t need to get anything ourselves.

Lisa and her family are incredibly warm and welcoming hosts and they made sure we had everything we needed to feel good during our stay. We arrived the day before Christmas and we were amazed to see a beautiful Christmas tree in the living room with a gift for our daughter. For her it was really great to have the tree while being away from home, so that was a wonderful surprise both for her and for us. When we arrived, we also found two baskets of delicious goodies: one with yummy pastries for breakfast and one with lots of sweet and salty snacks for us to enjoy during the day. There was also milk for us in the fridge, so we really felt that Lisa put all the effort into every single detail to make sure we have everything we needed.

Another aspect we greatly appreciated is that although we only rented the Turtle Grass Roost (1 bedroom with the kitchen part of the cottage), since there was nobody renting the adjacent bedroom, Lisa let us use that one as well, so we had the entire 2 bedroom, 2 bath house for ourselves.

We also enjoyed very much the location: it is in a quiet part of the island, away from the crowds in George Town, especially when the cruise ships are in port. The location is also perfect for exploring the island, whether you want to go to the 7-mile beach, to the East End or to Rum Point.

We highly recommend Lisa’s cottage, it is the place we would go to again if visiting Grand Cayman!

Our stay at Bottoms Up Cottage was a very comfortable one. We found it to be a convenient location to visit the Island on either side in a very short time. The cottage itself was clean & comfortable with all the amenities of home with the freedom of doing laundry at our leisure. There was a nice private beach area to sit at with a short distance to excellent snorkeling. Lisa was very helpful in offering information which made for a very pleasurable stay. A must would be a night dive aboard the Atlantis Submarine & swimming with the stingrays aboard Captain Jimmy's glass bottom boat of Red Sail Sports.

Whenever possible we like to invite our guest into our private home for that good old Caymanian hospitality and conversation which made the Cayman Islands a second home to repeat visitors years ago but has been just about abolished with the quest for a commercialized cosmopolitan island.
