This lodge is situated approx 3.5 miles away from HMS RALEIGH and perfectly located for attending 'Passing Out' Parades. HMS RALEIGH is in Cornwall not Plymouth. Therefore, any advertised accommodation that is in Plymouth and appears closer in mileage to HMS RALEIGH would mean you need to take into account the Torpoint Ferry queues and crossing time from Plymouth into Cornwall.

There is also a direct bus service from Whitsand Bay Holiday Park into Plymouth, which stops directly outside HMS RALEIGH. The added benefit of staying at Lodge 47 is that it also sleeps 6 people and the cost of your accommodation could be split between various members of your party and you also have your own privacy, fantastic accommodation, amenities, location and a 'get away from it all' break too! Especially if your son/daughter is going straight onto their next training establishment 2 days after their Passing Out Parade, you will at least have the opportunity of spending time together.

It has to be better than staying in a B&B or hotel room. The price is pretty much the same to stay at Lodge 47 with the bonus of the cost being equally shared out amongst yourselves. In addition, you will be entitled to a 10% discount off the published weekend tariff because you are HM Forces family members. Email us with your enquiries, dates and what we can leave in the lodge to make your short stay easier for you. There are various packages available including celebration balloons etc.

Lodge amenities described apply to Lodge 47 only.

10% Discount is offered to all serving and ex members of the Military/MOD & their families.

Cornwall's pasty and cream tea reputation is still thriving and now due to the enthusiasm of some celebrity chefs, Cornwall is now well and truly on the international foodie-map. The food scene has ballooned here since Rick Stein first broadcast rumour of the finer fresh and local ingredients produced here and Jamie Oliver opened another of his famous restaurants named 'Fifteen' at Watergate Bay, here in Cornwall in the summer of 2006.

Sourcing food locally has become a nationwide trend to nurture the environment, and Cornwall has the highest concentration of organic and traditional food producers in Britain. The best pubs and restaurants advertise their links with local farmers and fishermen. What is local here in Cornwall is often the very best in the country.

Nearby Plymouth is a large University City, with a fantastic theatre (Theatre Royal) and is positioned on the estuary of the Plym and Tamar.

Why Mr and Mrs chose Saint John

Fantastic honest guest reviews

It is managed by us as a family and not a faceless rental/letting agency. We live nearby and are always on hand to assist with queries etc

What makes this house unique

The only property at the park with curved floor to ceiling windows in the lounge, infra red sauna, steam cabinet, espresso station, wifi, boogie boards for use, exercise bike, swim floats, woggles, picnic hamper, blanket, picnic chairs, flasks, freshly prepared beds, towels etc etc

Guestbook comments from the manager

We had a great stay in the luxury cabin at Whitsand Bay. The accommodation was excellent, the cabin is fantastically equipped, spotlessly clean and decorated to a high standard. The area has so much to offer, the beach at Whitsand is gorgeous and unspoilt. We enjoyed some great day trips out and lovely relaxing evenings watching the sunset over the hills. It was a pleasure to meet our hosts who couldn't have been more helpful. Thank you so much, we had a great stay!

Just amazing

Mt family and I stayed at this lodge In July and we were not dissapointed. The location is superb with the miles of sandy beaches on our door step.It turns out t that these beaches ae pretty much a local secret, my son even went surfing most days.We used the boards that were left in the lodge for our use.

The lodge itself is very very clean and and has pretty much everything you could need, right down to flasks to use to take out with us! Whilst there are other lodges on the site it would appear that lodge 47 is unique by virtue of its size, huge curved windows and of course the steam room, sauna, jacuzzi and exercise equipment.

We have re booked for next year and have recommended it to plently of friends. It really is one of those places that we are glad we managed to find.

Not clean, not luxury, poor communication!

  • 1 of 5

4 friends and I rented this lodge for a night away. The lodge did not appear to have been cleaned prior to our arrival. There was dust and cobwebs throughout the property and dirt on the floors. The oven smoked when it was turned on and did not appear to have been cleaned for a long time. The dishwasher had not been emptied. There was mould on the curtains and damaged items such as a broken windowpane. Also there were no bin liners or tea towels provided and the lodge in general did not appear to be well looked after.

Additionally the owner was slow to respond to emails, did not provide any extra useful information for our arrival, such as where to park and since raising our concerns on the standard we found the lodge in, has failed to respond.

Excellent stay. Great accommodation, location and

  • 5 of 5

Our party was a group of 4 friends, just having a break from the city.

All of us were extremely pleased with the high quality of the lodge - spacious lounge, good bedrooms, very impressive bathroom (with sauna) and of course the hot tub.

We ventured around the area a little and found some quaint pubs, it's a really nice part of the country and taking the ferry over is quite a novelty but mainly we stayed in the luxury of the lodge.

The hot tub was exactly as desired. Room for four adults and could get it around 40°

The sauna was an unexpected bonus but only comfortable for two at a time.

Beds were decent. Not the most comfortable mattresses but we all managed to sleep ok. Having the en suite was handy.

The communication with the owners was first rate. From being given instructions to the location (which were very clear and detailed), right up to our departure and finally being in contact with regards to our deposit refund (HomeAway took a week to return it).

Overall an excellent stay. Would be great for any party - family or just adults. Highly recommended.

Lovely Lodge Nice View

  • 4 of 5

This was a light airy lodge with beautiful views of countryside and the sea in the distance. It was very clean and we all slept well in the beds. The whole party enjoyed the hot tub, and views from the balcony.. The accommodation is as pictured and although the holiday park was a little tired, the staff were very helpful and food at café and restaurant on site reasonable. We found this an excellent base for touring Cornwall. Beach is nearby and excellent walks, however as stated by others the beach is very steep access. There are other beaches accessible by car. Our hosts were very helpful and responded to some minor queries quickly and even offered the kids some ice lollies, food from freezer, which was much appreciated. There is lots of toys for younger children and some cards and books. Also swimming equipment provided for guests use. This was a nice touch but maybe a board game would of been nice, for the occasional rainy day of which we had some. We would not hesitate to return.

Excellent lodge but poor wifi was a let-down

  • 4 of 5

This lodge is nicely located beside a very nice beach (steep cliff walk) - accommodation is very good - very well fitted out with top equipment though w/machine handle was broken. Wifi is only a small hotspot which gave up after 3 days due to a weekly data limit which was our main complaint to the owners. Onsite take away food not great.

Very comfortable Lodge in lovely location

  • 4 of 5

Lodge 47 was spacious, very clean and comfortable. The adults in the family thoroughly enjoyed the hot tub! Deb & Damon were very obliging when a few small problems arose. We would definitely recommend this Lodge to family and friends, in fact have already passed information on to two acquaintances! The beach at Whitsand Bay was lovely for our two young granddaughters, although quite a climb back up. The Cliff Top cafe was excellent, especially for breakfast.

All in all our holiday at Lodge 47 was fantastic, especially as it was a family holiday to celebrate a 60th birthday.

Whitsand Bay Fort is part of the Rame Peninsular and is located at the beginning of the footstep from Devon into Cornwall. It pretty much remains unknown to the hordes of tourists who flock to Cornwall every year for their holiday break and boasts some of the most spectacular sandy beaches around our coastline.

It is a favorite surf spot, and Whitsand Bay Golf Club is nearby.

Even though Whitsand Bay Fort is in Cornwall, it is only 7 miles from Plymouth city centre, with a direct bus service that stops outside the Lodge Park. Therefore, it is centrally located which allows you to venture further and deeper into Cornwall or pop back into Devon to explore the coastline and nearby towns and villages therein.

The Rame Peninsula is an area of outstanding natural beauty with secluded and far-reaching sandy beaches, magnificent scenery, spectacular walks plus great surfing to be had. The Southwest Coastal Path starts at Cremyll and winds its way through the 800-acre Mount Edgcumbe Park.

Other Activities: Horse riding

Golf: Whitsand Bay Hotel Golf course is 4 miles away.

Set between Crafthole and the sea at Portwrinkle the course has dramatic panoramic coastal views.

The course was laid by Fernie of Troon in 1905, and although Max Faulkner holds the course record of 62 set in 1947, it is designed for the holiday golfer as well as the serious club golfer.

Challenging holes mingle with straightforward holes with dramatic views. A fabulous place to learn, play and compete.

Competitions for ladies, gents and couples are held weekly.

Ski: Dry Ski slope in nearby Plymouth.
