About Jenny Israel
I am a native of Marin, and love everything about it! Hiking, beach barbecues on Muir Beach, Mountain Home Theater, burritos in the Mission, Fairfax Scoop, wine tasting in Napa... the list goes on and on. I love Marin even more as I took a long detour from it. Our three children were born and raised in NYC, and I persuaded the family to move back here just last August. Quite the change, brownstone Brooklyn to nature-filled Marin! We love both but are so happy to have landed here. I am an architect, an artist, and a stay-at-home Mom. I love yoga, hiking, hanging with the family, reading on the porch, and dinner with friends. My husband Sandy is a professional musician and teacher. We are a relaxed, creative family. My motto? I guess it would be: 'Don't sweat the small stuff.'

Why Jenny Israel chose Greenbrae
A huge attraction of this property is Marin County itself, one of the most magical places on earth. Marin is famous worldwide for it's astounding natural beauty and the huge amount of land protected for public enjoyment. There are few places on the planet where you can hike, mountain bike, surf, sail, horseback ride and camp on thousands of acres of untouched wilderness, all within an hour of a major city. The variety of fun to be had in the area is unmatched: all the restaurants, museums and shopping of SF, the stunning beauty and outdoorsy lifestyle of Marin, plus wine country just 40 minutes north. Kentfield is a charming little town in central Marin, an area with the mildest, sunniest, most lovely year-round weather you can imagine. It has several very good restaurants, a gourmet market, bike paths, a school with a big field to kick a ball around, and loads of small town charm. It's one of a string of such small towns along the Ross Valley, all very special. I grew up the next town over, in Ross, and have always wanted to come back. Can you tell I love this place?
What makes this Cottage unique
I first became intrigued with our property - a main house and two cottages, on two acres - when I heard of it's unique history. The main house was built in 1903 and originally served as a retreat for Catholic nuns and laypeople: pews filled the living spaces, and nuns ate at the long narrow dining table. When I visited, I could feel the serenity that permeates every inch of the property. The cottages, including the Studio, we're built in the '70's during a very different phase of the property's life. Apparently it became something of a bohemian commune, and these cottages were built to house the overflow of friends and travelers. They are quite wonderful in their relaxed feel, total privacy and serene surroundings. We have tried to retain the sunny, casual vibe of these units, and are happy to be carrying on the tradition of welcoming travelers into them!

Beautiful cabin like feel
We would definitely recommend this property. Easy access to all things San Francisco and Marin County. If we had to describe this place in one word it would have to be charming. Whenever we had questions the owner was super quick to respond.
My husband and I loved this property. The bed is very comfortable and as with other properties of Jennys, there is a feeling of living in a treehouse. The bedroom has two nice bedside tables with large lamps for reading and the temperature of the house is easy to regulate with 2 wall mounted heat/cooling systems. We had a washer and dryer which is always a plus when traveling. The kitchen had everything we needed and 2 grocery stores are close by. The property is landscaped beautifully with more than adequate lighting. Jenny checked on us via text to see if we needed anything and responded quickly when we had questions. We will definitely stay here in the future.
Had an issue on arrival that was quickly resolved by property owner. Home is older, but the cost reflects that. We were very comfortable with our two children and would stay again.
Cute little house in the trees and a loud generator.
Darling little cabin with beautiful view of the trees. Fun to watch the squirrels playing in the trees. Clean and comfortable. On the down side parking is a challenge, tiny shower, workman on the property running a loud generator pretty much all day, then parking in the one spot assigned and then I'm assuming the homeowners landscaping outside the house until almost 9 pm without any blinds so lack of privacy. I had to wait to put on pj's until they were gone. But I'm assuming all of that kind of thing has been resolved and hopefully more peaceful and private. I would stay there again for sure if the work was all done.
Just what we were looking for
This property was beyond our expectations. Quiet, beautiful and convenient. We'll definitely return.
Private, pretty, peaceful
Beautiful cottage tucked away for a surprising degree of serenity given the population base of the area. It feels like living in a tree house and being surrounded by green is very calming. Clean and functional in all the basics. Quality linens on the bed and bed was comfy. Full kitchen was nice for us as we like to cook (a few more utensils would be great - esp for non-stick cookware). Great light, having the deck a plus. WiFi reliable. Didn’t watch TV. Appreciated the thorough book of house rules and instructions, as the last place we stayed did not have any and this became contentious - so kudos on good management of the property as well. Owners were responsive to questions. Location served us well with a conference in SF and family to the north. A few details to consider: Nail heads raised in several spots on the deck make barefoot walking a bit of a challenge; would be nice to have more screens for better bug-free natural ventilation - there were only 2 screened windows in the house. The AC works great, but at night natural air would be a delight. Instructions for the car gate to the property would have been useful in advance. Lastly, if you are a large person the shower is a bit of a squeeze - doable but tight. In spite of these small notes for improvement, I would highly recommend this beautiful little house. It feels good to be in the space, which is nicely appointed, well-kept, and open. Would definitely stay again!
Property is centrally located in the charming town of Kentfield, in gorgeous Marin County. Convenient to restaurants and shops, 30 min from San Francisco and 40 min from wine country. The house is 2 minutes from Kentfield town center, with Ambrosia Restaurant, Half-Day Cafe and Woodland Market. We are two minutes from bike paths and a 10 min drive to gorgeous hiking trails.
So much to do here! Check out the restaurants, museums and shopping in SF, only a half-hour drive away. Rent mountain bikes in the next town and explore Marin the high-adreneline way! Take an all day hike on Mount Tamalpias or Point Reyes, through redwood groves and chaparral and huge ocean vistas. See the sea lions, red-tailed hawks, maybe a bobcat if you get lucky! Kayak or stand-up paddleboard on the Bay. Stroll to downtown Kentfield and have one of the best brunches ever at Half-Day Cafe. Take leisurely walk in the lovely hills behind Kentfield. Take a wine-country tour and ship some of your favorites home. Grab dinner and a show at nearby Terrapin Crossroads, and get your Dead on. Or have an elegant dinner at Insalatas, 10 min away. Truly, this property, in this part of Marin County, is just wonderful.
