Ahhh, the pond...I could go on about the lovely downstairs unit and it's open kitchen and dining area. Or I could discuss how convenient the location is for just about anywhere on this side of the island, but somehow my mind wanders back to the thermal pond that is all yours. When the tide pools or champagne pond is crowded there is your own private pond awaiting. Yes, it's close to the volcano, lava flows and the vibe of Pahoa; the Makuu Farmers Market, open mic nite at the local Kava/Kombucha Bar or the drive down the Red Road and then there is the pond where you can slide in and float in bliss, undisturbed at sunrise, sunset or under the full moon just steps from the door of the house. There is Hilo Town, and botanical gardens, waterfalls, lava viewing boat tours from Issac Hale Park and there is the pond that rises and falls with the tide and is always calling.....
Needless to say we enjoyed our stay and I if I could figure out how to add an additional half star I would. The withholding of the other half star is the bed in the second room is in need of a serious replacement or at the very least a foam topper and pillow top cover. But after that moonlight soak in the pond, sleeping without those additions wasn't a problem! The location is excellent, clean and recently re-modeled, communication was clear and responses prompt from the owners, Have already recommended it to friends who frequent the area. Don't miss the Thai restaurant in Pahoa!
I spent 24 days on the Big Island at six amazing properties, this was my favorite. The unit is comfortable and well equipped and pond is so much fun, my favorite ponding was late at night under the stars. The area was beautiful and the food in Pahoa a delight. An upgraded bed would make this a touch better but I can't complain.
Our family had such an amazing time at Kapoho ponds. Very relaxing and clean!! Thanks..we'll be back again!
This is a modern, well-kept property with two units: one upstairs and one downstairs (we rented the downstairs). It has a private, natural, very-large volcano-heated warm pond to swim in. Excellent location to other thermal swimming sites, including half-a-block to the famous Champagne Pool. Good quality beds and modern appliances. The only downside is not much privacy (it's a duplex, surrounded by other rentals and not much foliage), and not a lot of "Hawaiian character" to the somewhat utilitarian structure. Property would also benefit from more/better outdoor furniture.
From a Guest who visited right after we had a tropical storm that knocked out power to this area for weeks:
We had a wonderful time, no complaints of any kind and my family members were all so appreciative of everything that was done to keep us safe and happy--I can never thank you enough.
I wanted our visit to be perfect--we all agreed we would not have changed one thing--we had weird meals-- making coffee on the grill was quite an experience, and made you really appreciate your first cup in the morning--but that only added to the fun.
We sat outdoors in the evenings and watched the stars, ever mindful that we were seeing some of them for the first time, as our atmosphere is not so clear--we laughed and joked and made memories that will have to last us forever, because we will never be able to do that again. This was a truly once-in-a-lifetime (mine) event and I pray that I never forget one moment.
It was a joy and privilege to meet you, very thoughtful of you to check on us.
Aloha, in every sense of that beautiful word,
The M Family
It was just right for our family of 4. The kids loved the pond, I wish that there was a gas grill, so we didnt bbq as much as we had planned on doing. Unit was CLEAN, and location was central for walks in all directions. We will definitley look at staying here again.
