Patio offers barbecue grill & table for outside eating. Freeways 5, 94, 163, 15 are close by & easy to access. Grocery store, bakery, & eating sites within walking distance such as great Pizza Parlor, a local beer brew & tapas bar, Karatoka coffee spot. Golden Hill park which is 2 blocks away offers a great walking roundabout & city views. Balboa Golf Course is 3 blocks away & Zoo is 3 min away by car as is Balboa Park. Bus stops out front takes one to Gaslamp & back. It is so central to all.
We came to San Diego for a wedding and my family wanted to stay somewhere that can fit our big family. The cottages where perfect place to stay we all had our own privacy but also had the courtyard patio to hang out. No need to drive Uber is so cheap and fast. We will definitely stay here again when the SF Giants come to town. The owners are the greatest people
The apartment was perfect for my fiancé and I, just a few minutes from down and great restaurants especially loved Turf Supper Club right around the corner. Apartments fully stocked I was able to hit the pier and grab some fresh sea food off the boats and cook a full sea food buffet. The bed was extremely comfortable, the only con was the garage was a little small. I have a Durango and with some skill I could park in it so if you have a bigger vehicle it won't fit! Other than that 1 small thing it was perfect and the garage parking was a serious luxury because parking anywhere in San Diego is a nightmare!
Pros: Comfy bed, clean and good location close to Balboa Park. Nice to have washer/dryer on site and nice private patios.
Cons: Heater/Air condition Very loud when in use (never did get warm enough), no dishwasher, futon sofa uncomfortable in living area, smaller than expected (good for maximum of 2 people only).
Good response from owners when had questions. Park nearby and Mexican bakery on same block. 7-11 and good gyro sandwiches in same complex about a block away.
We were very impressed with the property and its location. Terry was amazing. He met us and our dogs on arrival. The next day he showed us how to make the heater work. Coming from Arizona, we like it hot. He also got a new router for the wi-fi so we could use both our laptop and iPad. He gave us great suggestions for touring and even some phone numbers. We had some real nice visits with him. The best thing Terry did was give us the name of the veterinary clinic open every day just a couple blocks away which we needed on a Sunday for one of our dogs that got sick. The vet was outstanding and so reasonable. Oh, Terry also located a frying pan for us to use. Everything else we needed was in the unit. Unfortunately we didn't meet Kate because she was visiting their daughter in San Francisco. We ended up eating out only twice because we enjoyed hanging around the tropical paradise. One night we went to the Mexican restaurant around the block which was excellent. Another night we went to Fisherman's Market, a wonderful seafood restaurant down on the harbor. Otherwise, we bought a complete Thanksgiving dinner at a nearby Von's and ate it for four straight nights. We also barbecued steak one night outside on one of the gas barbecues. We drove to Coronado Island one day and to La Jolla another day to the fabulous aquarium. We hope to come and stay again. After hearing about our stay, one of our friends is interested in having a family reunion at the property and possibly renting out all of the units.
My husband and I had previously stayed at this location with our 2 small dogs. I fractured my foot a few weeks before our vacation, so I had to reschedule to a later date. The owners were able to accommodate my new dates and they also let us check in a little early. It was wonderful being so close to Balboa Park and our dogs love Nate's Dog Park nearby. The temperature dropped and it was chilly, but the heater worked perfect and we were toasty in no time. It was also nice to have cable TV and wifi. Highly recommend.
We are a retired couple who stayed at the apartment for a week on vacation. It is a wonderful, tranquil spot in a great location to tour the city. Just a few minutes from Balboa Park, there was plenty to see, including the Zoo very close by. Downtown, the Gaslamp District, Little Italy are all within a short drive also. We especially enjoyed the bakery, market and cafe just at the end of the block. The Turf Supper Club, also just down the street, was a fun place for dinner, where you cook your own meat over a centrally-located grill in the restaurant. We took excursions to San Diego Zoo Safari Park, Old Town, Coronado, La Jolla, Del Mar, and the Waterfront area where the USS Midway is open for tours.
The apartment is well-stocked for cooking, and comfortable for sleeping, with plenty of linens and towels, etc. We used the washer and dryer (coin-operated), on the property a few times, which was convenient. The air conditioners are portal units which are efficient, but quite loud. We had a few especially hot days, when we did need to use them.
The best part of our stay was enjoying the gardens, which are lush, expansive and beautiful, tended by the owner's wife. We ate many meals under the bougainvillea-covered pergola, surrounded by a tropical paradise.
The owners live next door, and are lovely, helpful and accessible. I would highly recommend the place, and would stay again if the occasion arises.
Retired professor. We travel internationally & have two Bichon's. Love to walk on the waterfront and eat the best fresh fish at Mitch's Seafood which is located at the Sport fishing landing. Balboa Park & the Zoo are favorites; Park has the Prado Restaurant which has great happy hour drinks & food; Zoo has Albert's Tree Restaurant which many do not know about; it is breezy & has an African motif.
