Ravenridge is located at 1,425 feet elevation in the highlands eight miles west of Highway 101 in southern Mendocino County. As you wind along scenic Highway 128, city life fades away. You enter a private gate, follow a gravel road through vineyard and forest, and arrive. Hillview cottage is nestled beneath an ancient live oak with dramatic hillside vistas that beckon westward to the Mendocino coast.
Nearby Douglas firs, redwoods madrones, and oaks provide habitat for an assortment of birds and other wildlife, including our resident Ravens. Your private getaway offers both a relaxing retreat and a comfortable base for exploring the surrounding wine regions. With an exceptional rustic setting and comfortable amenities, the cottages at Ravenridge await you.
Gerald Reis and Kurt Feichtmeir are the Ravenridge proprietors . We discovered and fell in love with our ridgetop home where we've resided since 2001. Located in southern Mendocino County it is spectacularly situated with panoramic western views. Surrounded by expansive wild lands, we are also deeply connected to a community of wonderful neighbors who share a commitment to country life, the land and its inhabitants. We named our property in honor of the year-round resident Ravens whose daily presence – aerial acrobatics, varied vocalizations, intelligent antics, and intergenerational family relationships – enlivens our world.
Kurt Feichtmeir purchased this cottage in 2001
In 2003, a few years after purchasing and settling into our new home, we turned our creative energy to refurbishing the original one-bedroom house and its nearby workshop for use by our family, friends, and vacation rental guests. Each renovated cottage has its own "sophisticated rustic" style, fully appointed for comfort and privacy. Our country location offers guests access to nature - forest, wildlife, star-gazing, sunsets, and fresh air - and a home base for exploring the bounty of Mendocino County's natural, cultural, and viticultural resources. Dozens of wine-tasting and beer-tasting venues are within a 30 minute radius of Ravenridge. Sharing our inspirational retreat with guests is an extension of our vision to be good stewards of the land.
We appreciate that many of our guests are Ravenridge "regulars" who return to celebrate, chill out, and re-charge.
Being an East Coast girl, I was enthralled by the panoramic views and idyllic setting of Ravensridge. Hillview Cottage, where I stayed reminded me of Mediterranean sunshine, with the wonderful scent of lavender from the garden. Everything was beautifully and uniquely decorated with the hosts' style and use of color.
While there, I visited nearby Hendy State Park, a remarkable redwood grove, and a few of the surrounding small towns. All were well worth a visit and conveniently located to Ravensridge, though once at the cottage, it's hard to leave!
In all, Kurt and Gerry offer welcoming hospitality in the stunning California countryside. Guests could not ask for more.
Let me begin by saying that I live in San Francisco, and I’ve done the Napa and Sonoma Valley wine experience multiple times over… it’s wonderful, of course, but also commercial and highly traveled. If you want a more intimate and bucolic wine tasting experience, do yourself a favor and visit the Yorkville Highlands, just over the Mendocino county line.
My sister was coming for a visit from the East Coast, and I wanted to treat her to something special. I’ve been to Ravenridge before (stayed at both Hillview and Woodhaven), so I knew what to expect. They’re both gorgeous, but different in decor and ambiance. We stayed at Hillview… think French cottage transported to Northern Cal. Just beautiful.. the colors, the decor, high quality linens and towels, fresh picked flowers and lavender from the garden, all the little details are so tastefully done. But what’s really special to me is the quality of light that happens late in the day, when the hills are just golden and the sound of the wind in the trees are all you hear… simply magic. And… maybe I shouldn’t say this, but the proprietors, Kurt and Gerald, left us a local bottle of wine to enjoy along with all the natural beauty. Wow!
Kurt and Gerald couldn’t have been more welcoming and gracious. They seem like genuinely nice guys who love what they do (and are really good at it!) I will most definitely be coming back.
Our stay at Hillview Cottage couldn't have been more pleasant. We left the window open at night and were lulled to the sound of a rare thunderstorm and the fragrance of jasmine. The view from the patio was spectacular. The linens and towels were fresh and inviting and the kitchen had everything we needed for a simple dinner in the evening. We foraged for ingredients in the nearby Anderson Valley. Love the small town ambiance and local wineries. Kurt and Gerald, the owners were very gracious with information. Definitely a return visit is in order.
What a charming cottage!! We stayed at Woodhaven for only a night, but are already trying to plan another stay! We ended up canceling our plans for the evening (film festival and dinner reservations) to just enjoy the cottage, because we loved it that much! It's very clean and fully equipped with everything you might need for a weekend getaway. It's centrally located to some wonderful wineries and breweries. The view, the lighting, the breeze, the space, the deck, the seclusion... everything was perfection. The owner, Kurt, was extremely welcoming and thoughtful. I wish I could spend every weekend here!
Many Anderson Valley, Yorkville Highlands, and Alexander Valley wine tasting and beer tasting nearby. Magnificent old growth redwoods and hiking trails at Hendy Woods State Park. Gorgeous Mendocino coastline (beaches, views, historic lighthouses) within an hour's drive and the quaint village of Mendocino
